First-rank palace maid Su Jixiang

Chapter 03: Run! Don't look back

The hand holding the hilt of the knife suddenly stopped shaking, and a hint of pride suddenly rose in Mei Fei's eyes. Yes, her father was a general!

"Let's go!" Concubine Mei took a deep breath and looked at Su Jixiang.

A palace maid could remain so calm. As a general's daughter, she must not fall behind.

She wanted to walk out of this palace alive! She wanted to see her father and brother alive! She wanted to live freely!

At this moment, the desire for life and the yearning for freedom filled Mei Fei's chest, squeezing out the previous fear!

"There are Imperial Guards!" Concubine Mei saw several Imperial Guards rushing towards Xuanwu Gate, and she said to Su Jixiang eagerly. "Let's follow them!"

"If you want to die quickly, follow us!" Su Jixiang pulled her back, "Let's follow those eunuchs!"

Su Jixiang pointed to a few eunuchs on the right who were rushing out with bundles and said.

"Ah? Why?" Mei Fei looked at Su Jixiang in confusion. In the dark night, with the flickering light of the fire, her face was unusually calm and determined. "The Imperial Guards will fight and help us resist for a while!"

"They always pick on the weak. If you run with them, do you think those lunatics will attack you first or the imperial guards who are competing in martial arts?" Su Jixiang gave Concubine Mei a look as if she was looking at a fool. "The bags those eunuchs are carrying must contain things that they took out of the palace! If it were you, which one would you attack first?"

Concubine Mei finally understood what Su Jixiang meant. Although those crazy soldiers were just hacking people indiscriminately, they were ultimately after money!

She followed Su Jixiang and ran after the eunuchs.

Sure enough, the rebel soldiers guarding the center of the square did not make any special attempt to stop the Imperial Guards who had already rushed to them. They just waved their machetes symbolically. Most of them attacked the palace maids and eunuchs who followed those Imperial Guards.

The few palace maids and eunuchs who originally thought they could escape by following the Imperial Guards were stopped by the rebel army and soon died under their swords. Concubine Mei was horrified and broke out in a cold sweat. If they had followed the Imperial Guards just now... she didn't even dare to think about the consequences.

The two of them were originally dressed as eunuchs, and now it did not seem out of place for them to run behind this group of eunuchs. As Su Jixiang said, the rebel army stopped the people running in front and reached out to snatch the bags on their bodies. Some of the eunuchs protected their belongings at the risk of their lives, while others simply pulled the bags open and let the belongings scatter all over the ground. They were slaves in the palace, and some of them saw things the most clearly. As long as they were alive, it was better than anything else.

Those who protected their property were basically killed tragically by the knife, while those who scattered their property were able to run a few more steps, but in the end they could not escape the fate of death.

When Su Jixiang pulled Mei Fei over, she suddenly opened the bag on her back and threw it out. The bag fell to the ground, and several wine glasses and wine jugs that looked to be made of gold rolled out from it. They were obviously things from the imperial kitchen.

"There's gold!" The rebels saw the golden utensils rolling on the ground in the firelight, and someone shouted. Soon, everyone's attention was attracted by these golden wine utensils. Most of the rebels rushed over to grab the golden wine glasses and golden wine pots on the ground. Su Jixiang took Mei Fei and ran towards Xuanwu Gate like flying.

There were people hacking at the two of them with swords, but because most people were attracted by the gold and silver, there were not many people who could actually stop the two of them.

Although Concubine Mei had a shield protecting her, she was still stabbed several times. Although it did not cause any substantial harm to her, she was still stabbed and staggered forward. The shoes she was wearing did not fit her feet well, and she fell forward.

"Get up!" Su Jixiang waved the knife in her hand to block the swords aimed at her, and at the same time she had to protect the fallen Mei Fei. For a moment, she was a little overwhelmed. And the chaotic soldiers who had snatched the gin wine vessel had begun to surround the two of them. The chance to escape was just a moment.

"Go!" Mei Fei gritted her teeth and tried to loosen Su Jixiang's tightly clasped hands. Her pretty face was filled with sorrow. "Live well!" She had been rescued once, and could not expect Su Jixiang to save her a second time.

Besides, she didn't want to drag Su Jixiang down. She wasn't a good person, but she wouldn't do anything that would hurt others and benefit herself.

"Your father, brother and mother are waiting for you!" Su Jixiang gritted his teeth and pulled Mei Fei up from the ground. "It's not the time to say such discouraging words!"

Tears had already wet Mei Fei's eyes. She hadn't expected that even in this situation, Su Jixiang still hadn't given up on her.

After so many years in the palace, she thought her heart had grown cold, but she didn't expect that Su Jixiang would warm her again tonight. Even though they were only together for a short time, she at least knew that in this palace, there was a palace maid whom she didn't even know and would stay with her forever.

She tried hard to hold back her tears, gritted her teeth and stood up. Without thinking too much, she looked back at the chaotic army that was rushing towards them like wolves and tigers, gritted her teeth and said, "Okay! Let's go all out! We're going to die anyway! It's no big deal!" After saying that, she stood in front of Su Jixiang, "If we really have to die, we'll die together!"

Su Jixiang...

This Concubine Mei is really passionate! But she doesn't want to die!

Seeing the rebels getting closer and closer, Su Jixiang pushed away Mei Fei who was blocking her way, turned forward, raised her hand, and threw out a large bag of pepper powder.

She just looked at the wind direction and found that she was standing upwind!

A large bag of pepper powder flew in the wind, and several rebels who were close to them were immediately sprinkled with pepper powder, which made them scream in pain. The others didn't know what was going on, and when they saw their companions screaming, they thought Su Jixiang had poison in his hand, so they stopped moving forward and looked at Su Jixiang and Mei Fei in horror.

"Let's go!" Su Jixiang pulled Mei Fei and continued to run towards Xuanwu Gate, but no one followed behind.

"Are we successful?" Concubine Mei asked Su Jixiang in surprise while running.

"What a success! They don't chase us and don't know how to shoot arrows!" Su Jixiang said unhappily.

As soon as she finished speaking, there was the sound of an arrow breaking through the air. Su Jixiang pulled out the shield tied to Concubine Mei's chest and put it on his back to protect the vital parts of his body.

Mei Fei was stunned. She originally thought that Su Jixiang wanted to protect her better, but now she knew that Su Jixiang was just using her as a porter...

Before she could think too much, she was hit by an arrow in the arm, and Su Jixiang was also hit by an arrow in the leg. They were only a few steps away from Xuanwu Gate, but Su Jixiang's speed of running away while pulling her slowed down significantly.

Su Jixiang pushed her forward, and Mei Fei found that Su Jixiang had let go of her. She looked back and saw that Su Jixiang had injured his leg and had fallen to his knees...

"Run!" Su Jixiang gritted his teeth and said to Concubine Mei, "Don't look back!"
