There are communication trenches around the fortress connecting to the trenches, so the Japanese soldiers inside the bunker can provide support to the trenches at any time. There are also trenches outside the fortress, which are filled with water and can only be barely passed through two suspension bridges.

In particular, one of the largest main gun towers was built entirely of reinforced concrete. Ordinary mortars had no effect on it, and even the Type 92 infantry gun was ineffective.

The only weapon that can cause damage is the 75mm mountain gun, but it only damages small bunkers. If you want to destroy the main bunker, you need to mobilize the 105mm heavy howitzer.

This large enemy stronghold housed a squadron of Japanese soldiers and a battalion of puppet troops, totaling almost a thousand people. The Japanese also built a large number of warehouses inside the stronghold, storing enough supplies to feed a thousand people for three months.

The most crucial thing is that the location of this enemy stronghold is right at the junction of our two bases, which is the only way for our logistics department to transport supplies.

If we cannot destroy the enemy, which is like a thorn in our throat, our transport convoy will have to travel an additional 40 kilometers, and those are all small roads. Not only is it time-consuming and labor-intensive, but the amount of goods that can be transported at one time is also small.

In order to successfully capture the enemy's solid fortress, the nearby troops mobilized two main infantry regiments, plus a mountain artillery platoon, ready to take down the obstacle in front of them in one fell swoop.

However, the place chosen by the Japanese was very cunning. It was a terrain that was easy to defend but difficult to attack. Even though our troops had mountain artillery to support them, their repeated attacks did not achieve much results except for destroying a few small enemy bunkers.

Our artillery unit was newly formed and its shooting skills were only mediocre. Even after consuming hundreds of shells, we did not achieve the expected results. The enemy's bunkers, in particular, were always exposed in places we could not imagine, causing heavy casualties to our attacking forces.

With no other choice, Commander Yun of the military sub-district deliberately left behind a regiment of troops to besiege the enemy's solid fortress, and the remaining regiment was used to guard against the enemy in the county town to prevent the Japanese from sending reinforcements.

We want to use a long siege to force the Japanese in the bunker to surrender voluntarily. If the Japanese in the county town choose to reinforce, we don't mind fighting a decisive battle with the enemy in the wild.

After all, there was only one battalion of Japanese devils in the county town, while we had two regiments, which gave us an absolute advantage in numbers.

As for weapons, we already have a considerable advantage in light weapons such as rifles, light machine guns and heavy machine guns. As for heavy weapons, the Japanese battalion has only one Type 75 infantry artillery squad, while we have a mm mountain artillery platoon, which is a completely crushing advantage. What's more, our battalion and company also have a large number of mortars.

If the battle is at regimental level, we are actually not weaker than the enemy. Of course, if we go higher, we lack a lot of things, especially large-caliber howitzers above 105 mm, and aircraft, in which we are at an absolute disadvantage.

Now the Japanese are defending their strongholds and are determined not to leave. With our strength, we really have no way to deal with them. If we attack head-on, there will be heavy casualties. This is a losing business and no one is willing to do it.

The life of any of our soldiers is extremely precious. We would feel it is a loss even if ten Japanese soldiers were to be exchanged for one of ours.

In the past, we might not have dared to organize such a large-scale force to besiege the enemy's stronghold, otherwise the supplies in the enemy's stronghold would not be consumed by the time our own stronghold collapsed.

When the superior leaders were formulating the siege plan, they specifically requested material resources from the logistics department. After Minister Zhang received the information, he waved his hand and directly transferred 500 tons of grain from the inventory, which is equivalent to about one million kilograms.

Even if the two regiments of troops eat three kilograms of food every day, it can last for three months. Together with the food reserves of the military sub-district itself, it is enough to last for half a year.

In addition, there are 20 tons of canned meat and 10 tons of compressed biscuits. After all, the long-term siege of the enemy is very mentally exhausting for the soldiers, so they must ensure that they have enough food.

At the same time, we specially allocated 2,000 mortar shells and 500 mountain artillery shells. During the siege, our artillery had to fire a few shots from time to time, and we must not let the Japanese have a day in peace.

In addition, after hearing the news, a nearby Sichuan Army regiment, led by their commander Fan, also rushed out to help in the battle.

Firstly, the location of the Japanese stronghold was too critical, blocking the main communication route between the Sichuan Army Corps and the division headquarters, preventing much support from the superiors from arriving.

Secondly, we provided a large amount of weapons and ammunition to the Sichuan Army some time ago, and we owe them a big favor. Now sending troops to help, it can be regarded as repaying the favor.

The superiors will definitely welcome this kind of thing. According to the leader's intention, we should contact more with the Sichuan Army, Shaanxi Army and Guangxi Army in the future to strengthen our relationship and work together to drive the Japanese out of the country.

I saw Commander Fan walk into the headquarters, first saluted, then said loudly:

"Commander Yun, our troops have been ordered to come and assist in the battle and will obey your command. Please assign us a mission."

"Welcome to our friendly forces, Captain Fan. Our superiors have already instructed us to work together this time. No one is in command of the other. We just need to discuss and decide."

"Let's go to the front line and take a look."

After the two arrived at the front line, Commander Yun saw that Captain Fan's telescope was the same type used by Japanese lieutenants, and the magnification was not high.

Seeing this, Captain Fan explained embarrassedly:

"I originally had a telescope made in Hans, but it was damaged in a battle a few months ago. I had no choice but to use a telescope I captured from the Japanese."

"But our enemies have learned their lesson. Once they're unable to defeat us in a retreat, they'll find ways to destroy rare weapons and equipment. For example, a Type 92 heavy machine gun would be practically useless if a grenade was dropped near it. The same goes for binoculars; it's hard to find one intact on the battlefield."

"Our Sichuan Army's logistics support is already quite poor, so asking our superiors to allocate telescopes is out of the question. I can only make do with this."

After hearing this, Commander Yun thought about it carefully, then called the guard over and gave him a few instructions.

After a while, the guard came over with a box in his hand. Commander Yun took it and said with a smile:

"Actually, we used to be just like you, even with worse logistics, but it's much better now. By the way, Commander Fan, this is our military region's spare telescope. We're giving it to your Sichuan Army Corps as a gift to thank you for your assistance."

"By the way, according to our commander's orders, the logistics of your Sichuan Army Corps will be the responsibility of our military sub-district. Everyone will eat the same food, without distinction."
