Chapter 73 Don't be attentive and boring

The next morning, as soon as Xu Qu went out for morning exercise, Xiaoyu woke Huanhuan up according to the agreement they had made last night. Huanhuan dressed up carefully, from getting dressed to combing her hair and drawing her eyebrows, and then hurried to the kitchen to see how Xiaoyu and the maids were preparing breakfast.

Originally, Huanhuan was not particular about food and always ate whatever was cooked. The maids in the garden also knew Xu Qu's eating habits, so Huanhuan didn't have to worry about it. Therefore, Huanhuan had never been to the kitchen before. Now, she either kicked the jar of pickled eggs, bumped into the stacked plates, or blamed Xiaoyu for not cooking the porridge thick enough, making the maids and the little maid in charge of the kitchen so nervous that they didn't say a word.

Only Xiaoyu couldn't help but grumble to her angrily: "Miss, it's your fault that you fall asleep every day and never wake up. I have to wake you up every time. That's not enough, but you are clumsy with your hands. It takes you so long to comb your hair. I have to watch over you for you because I'm afraid you won't make it in time." She just waved her hands slowly and said nothing more. She started to stir the porridge with a wooden spoon herself.

After a flurry of activity, Huanhuan and Xiaoyu finally set the table for breakfast with the help of Nanny Quan, and then sat quietly in the room waiting for Xu Qu to come back from morning exercise to eat together.

After waiting for a while, Huanhuan became a little impatient. Xiaoyu was a little dazed. She finally heard the sound of Xu Qu and Youcheng talking outside the door. Huanhuan immediately sat up straight, put on a smile and waited for Xu Qu to come in.

With the sword in his left hand, Xu Qu stepped over the threshold with one foot and lifted the door curtain with his right hand. He saw Huan Huan smiling beautifully and attentively at the dining table. He was stunned and did not move, causing You Cheng who was following behind him to bump into him with a "bang" before he could stop.

He hurried forward and took the sword from Xu Qu's hand, then turned around and carefully hung his hands on the place where Xu Qu usually hung the sword.

After Xu Qu sat down, he saw that today's breakfast obviously had a few more light dishes. He stared at the spoon in the porridge bowl for a few seconds, and Xiaoyu said quickly, "Son-in-law, this porridge was specially made for you by the young lady."

Hearing this, Xu Qu raised his lips but did not say anything. Instead, he took a spoon and tasted the porridge. Then he slowly sat aside without moving his chopsticks, stared at Xu Qu and asked, "What do you think?"

Xu Qu nodded and said, "Not bad." Then Xu Qu turned his head and said slowly, "Did you ask for these dishes?"

She slowly replied, "Yes, I wanted to ask my husband what he wanted to eat today. But my husband and my second uncle left in a hurry yesterday, and I waited until very late in the evening but he didn't show up. So I asked Nanny Quan to make all the food my husband likes this morning."

Seeing that Xu Qu seemed to want to say something, Huan Huan immediately continued, "But don't worry, my husband, I will ask you about tomorrow's meal in advance, and I won't be so extravagant. I will also arrange these dishes today, so they won't be wasted."

Xu Qu nodded, thought for a moment, and said, "You don't have to ask me in the future. Just eat whatever you want. You don't have to wait for me. It's also good to see you sleeping soundly like yesterday when I came back."

Huan Huan heard this and explained guiltily: "I was waiting for you, but too many things happened in the past two days. I was tired and exhausted, so I fell asleep on the table without realizing it. After Xiaoyu woke me up, I saw that it was very late, so I went to bed."

Xu Qu nodded and said, "Let's just stay like before. There's no need to use those annoying tricks. It would seem too deliberate and unfamiliar."

Huanhuan smiled sheepishly and said, "You helped me so much, I just wanted to express my gratitude."

Xu Qu pretended to be relaxed and said, "It's not a big help."

Huanhuan didn't take it seriously and said in an exaggerated tone: "How could it be? What I did, in the words of my great aunt, is 'unheard of since Pangu created the world.'" Then she calmed down and asked sincerely: "Aren't you afraid of becoming a topic of conversation and a joke for others after dinner?"

Xu Qu raised his eyebrows slightly and said, "As long as they are not said in front of me, I will know nothing about it. Those who are keen on criticizing others behind their backs are either cowards with ulterior motives or busybodies with dark hearts. Do I still care about them?"

"What if all the clansmen use the Xu family's reputation to force you to divorce me?" he asked slowly.

Xu Qu did not answer, but asked: "If I really divorce you, what will you do?"

She slowly replied, "I have really thought about it. I will definitely not stay in my parents' home and bring shame to them. I will probably find a faraway place to spend the rest of my life."

Xu Qu's face suddenly changed after hearing this, and he became extremely gloomy. After a moment of silence, he said, "It's already been resolved, don't think about it anymore." Then he deliberately changed the subject and said, "But having said that, you dared to say those words in front of your aunt yesterday, which is impressive."

She pursed her lips slowly, raised her eyes and looked at Xu Qu and said, "Are you blaming me for forgetting your advice to be 'tolerant' and for being too rude to my aunt?"

Xu Qu said seriously, "Do I look like I blame you? I used to think that my aunt wouldn't stay long. She has always been very strict and it's better for everyone to have less trouble than more. Now it seems that maybe I was wrong. Blindly tolerating will only lead to her getting more aggressive. Appropriate counterattacks and confrontation are the best long-term solutions for getting along with her."

Seeing Huanhuan looking at him tenderly, Xu Qu felt better. He asked jokingly, "How is it? Are you in a good mood after saying that?"

He asked slowly, "Are you telling the truth?"

Xu Qu answered without hesitation: "Of course!"

After a moment of silence, he said, "In fact, it's only good when you express your pent-up emotions. You don't feel good afterwards."

Xu Qu asked curiously: "Why?"

"Because I find it boring! Uninteresting!" He shook his head slowly and met Xu Qu's interested gaze.

"Family members shouldn't get along like this!" Huanhuan said firmly, "Family members should work together, think in the same direction, and work together. There are differences, not contradictions, and we should not attack each other."

"Yeah." Xu Qu nodded thoughtfully and said, "My aunt was indeed at fault first."

"But from all her expressions, it can be seen that my aunt really cares about you, my husband, and is thinking about you in every way." She pursed her lips slowly and looked at Xu Qu with clear eyes.

Xu Qu responded: "You are right, so sometimes I cannot say some things because it will make my aunt sad, like yesterday..."

He shook his head slowly and said, "It's better if you don't tell her. If you tell her, she won't blame you but will hold it against me. Besides, what you said yesterday was enough."

Xu Qu smiled with shining eyes and said, "Just take your time to understand."

He slowly leaned his elbows on the table and said, "Actually, I think my aunt did one thing very well."

"Oh?" Xu Qu looked at Huan Huan with interest and said, "What is it? I'd like to hear more about it."

He said slowly, "That means family members should speak their minds when they have something to say. Don't be euphemistic, don't use metaphors, and don't beat around the bush."

Xu Qu smiled and said, "That's great, but did you do it yourself?"

Huanhuan asked curiously: "What didn't I do?"

Xu Qu leaned forward, stared at him and said slowly: "When you feel wronged or have something on your mind, will you speak out?"

She looked at Xu Qu slowly and smiled, then said sincerely, "I know. I'll tell you later."

Xu Qu continued to ask, "Who are you telling this to? Xiaoyu?"

She slowly looked at Xu Qu's childish look like a child asking for candy, and said helplessly, "Just tell your husband, okay?"

"Yeah," Xu Qu nodded, sat back up, and as if remembering something, he said, "It's just that I keep hearing your husband calling me husband, but why do I feel so distant from him?"

"Then what should my name be?" Huanhuan asked with a puzzled smile.

"How about calling me 'Brother Qu'?" Xu Qu said, stroking his chin.

Huanhuan put away her smile in an instant. She had heard Xie Jin call her by this name before. What did Xu Qu mean by this?

"I don't want to be called that because others have called it that!" Huanhuan said without hesitation and in a decisive tone.

"Then what do you want to be called?" Xu Qu asked cautiously.

He slowly said with some anger: "My name is Xu Qu, whether you want to listen or not."

"Listen, of course." Xu Qu was also a person who knew how to go with the flow, so he responded quickly.

Huanhuan then burst out laughing, and Xu Qu looked at Huanhuan and laughed too.

Huanhuan and Xu Qu were looking at each other with silly smiles. Youcheng stood by the door frame and coughed twice, saying, "Time is running out. Let's get down to business, sir!"
