Chapter 606 Angel?
Ian moved so fast he was almost a blur, silently advancing under the cover of the fleeing crowd.
The knights of light were originally charging toward Lilith, who was retreating, but the afterimage bypassed them and went straight toward the increasingly bright light behind her.
The closest of the chosen ones was caught off guard. The backlash from the interrupted chanting caused him to groan, and the light elements gathered around him exploded in chaos, injuring himself and disturbing his nearby companions.
"Protect those favored by God!"
The knights of light accompanying them this time were clearly more well-trained. Upon seeing this, a portion of the group immediately turned around and pounced on the audacious black-haired youth.
But he didn't linger. His figure moved nimbly between the mud and the overturned luggage carts, his sword always striking out at the most tricky moments. His goal was clear: to interrupt the divine favored one's spellcasting and create chaos.
The pressure on Lilith's side eased considerably. After taking down the two Knights of Light, she didn't dare to delay and rushed towards the city of Goredia. She needed to get close to the city and make a big commotion, so that the city guards might come to investigate.
But she couldn't walk on the main road occupied by the church, and she didn't dare to escape by mixing with the civilians. Those chosen ones were attacking indiscriminately, and she couldn't let innocent people get involved.
So Lilith slipped into the farmland on either side of the main road. The farmers here didn't cultivate the land as systematically as they would in later generations; they would plant whatever seeds they could find. There were many immature corn plants in the fields, and these crops grew extremely tall, providing Lilith with perfect cover.
However, the ground was really difficult to walk on after the rain. She ran with uneven steps and had to deal with the Knights of Light and the Chosen Ones who kept approaching her. Before long, she was covered in dirt and grime.
Shouts of "Enemy attack!" and "Capture the heretic witch!" echoed forward, as more and more members of the Church of Light's long column joined the pursuit at the rear!
After seeing Ian's actions, Gardner and the others joined his plan to cover their respective partners' retreat. But no matter how hard they fought, they were only a few people. How could they stop so many of the chosen ones from gathering together in a grander and more solemn chant?
A sudden gust of wind swept across the fields, swaying the crops and scratching Lilith's face until it bled. A powerful elemental fluctuation caused her blood to surge, and a strong sense of unease made her look back between runs.
The low-hanging dark clouds in the sky seemed to be parted by an invisible hand, and a beam of light crashed down!
The undead summoned by Hannah howled and dissipated in the light, and the girl turned pale and collapsed to the ground.
Within the pillar of light, a tall figure with enormous wings of light rapidly materialized! The fleeing people, upon seeing the strange phenomenon in the sky, stopped running. They knelt on the ground, trembling with fear, and begged for the gods' forgiveness.
That's... an angel?!
Lilith's eyes widened, and the word immediately came to mind.
No, that's not right.
The next second she denied the guess. The elemental fluctuations just now made her realize that this was just a summoning magic similar to Hannah's method. It should be an elemental spirit condensed from the light element, only its appearance was similar to the majestic and holy angel in Lilith's subconscious.
The light and shadow slowly descended from the sky, carrying an indifferent gaze upon all living beings. The sight was so breathtaking that even Lilith, who was well aware of its magical nature, felt awe at first glance. It was no wonder that the Church of Light could hold the hearts of its believers so firmly with such a trick.
The thing was blurry, with only two orbs of light visible around its eyes. Its gaze slowly swept across the battlefield beneath its feet, first locking onto Ian, who was still causing trouble in the enemy ranks.
"Ian, watch out!" Lulu screamed.
The winged "angel" raised its arm.
The next moment, the blazing spear of light tore through the air with a terrifying shriek, piercing through the shoulder of the black-haired youth below at an unavoidable speed, pinning him hard to the muddy ground!
Ian's body convulsed violently, the sword flew out of his hand, and he struggled to stand up, his face pale, trying to grip the spear of light and pull it out.
The surrounding chosen ones watched indifferently, seemingly mocking his futility and naivety.
The next moment, a second and a third beam of light condensed and were thrown, piercing his thigh and abdomen one after another, bringing up large amounts of blood mist and scorched marks. Ian could no longer stand and knelt on the ground, spitting out mouthfuls of blood.
Lilith's heart skipped a beat for no apparent reason.
She couldn't see what was happening on the ground in the distance, but she could guess who the enemy's target was. Anxious, she wanted to return to defend, but as the enemy's primary target, more Knights of Light and Chosen Ones rushed towards her, and Lilith was once again caught in a fierce battle.
The ground beneath her feet was ravaged by rain and magic, almost turning into a swamp. Lilith tried her best to avoid it, but still managed to get one foot stuck in the mud during the battle.
"Here she is! She's here!"
Several knights of light, their faces filled with fanaticism, roared and quickly closed in from the side of the field ridge, their longswords reflecting a cold, icy light, about to slash at the blonde girl who had no time to pay attention to her back!
"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!"
Just as Lilith felt the wind of a sword coming from behind, several arrows shot out in succession with a whooshing sound, each sword precisely piercing the enemy's throat, and the enemies in front of Lilith fell one after another.
One of the divinely favored ones who came to their aid sensed something was wrong. It was too late to cast a defensive spell, and he instinctively shouted to his companions behind him, "There are still enemies hiding—"
Before he could even finish speaking, he felt a chill on his neck and could no longer make a sound. Before he hit the ground, he met a pair of cold green eyes.
Is it... is it an elf?!
After defeating another wave of enemies, a tall, slender figure leaped out of the farmland. It was Aryan, carrying a bow and arrow. Gone was his usual carefree attitude. With a serious face, he grabbed Lilith's arm, lifted her out of the muddy field, and ran forward!
"Help Ian and the others!" Lilith said urgently.
"We'll talk about it after you're safe." Aryan's voice was cold. As he helped Lilith steady herself and continued forward, stumbling along, he turned back, drew his bow, and fired a few more arrows to slow down the pursuers.
But that was too slow. Aryan's vision was much clearer than Lilith's. He saw that the light elementalist had dealt with the Mother Goddess's children and was slowly turning his gaze toward the two of them.
"Greteia's defenses are utterly useless! Lord Zephyrion is even more unreliable!" Aryan was furious, but suddenly he drew the dagger from his waist and swiftly slashed his wrist vertically, letting the blood seep into the ground—his offering to nature.
"Repeat after me!" Aryan didn't even have time to explain, and hurriedly chanted the ancient and difficult Elvish incantation.
Although Lilith didn't understand, she could only trust Aryan at this moment. She tried her best to imitate the language she couldn't understand. She was also bleeding, and after she started chanting, she felt as if the blood was being drawn away by a force and surging wildly into the ground beneath her feet.
Rumbling--
A muffled thunderous sound echoed from underground, making Lilith's legs feel numb, as if a colossal creature was awakening and churning below.
Ian was still conscious. His body was forced to the ground, but he still tried to lift his head. He saw that the "angel" had flapped its wings of light and was flying towards Lilith. The light spear in its hand condensed again. Its target was clear. This time, it was Lilith!
"..." Ian opened his mouth, but no sound came out.
At that moment, the ground in front of Lilith suddenly rose up in a straight line! The ground seemed to crack open, and the soil, stones, and crops were pushed to both sides by a force. She instinctively wanted to dodge, but Aryan still pulled her forward.
"Om-"
As if hearing the earth breathe, Lilith suddenly felt dizzy, and the light above her head grew brighter and brighter. She had already guessed what was behind her and was thinking about how to deal with it when she saw two enormous creatures rise up from the cracked earth!
Those are... two trees?
Yet they are by no means ordinary trees. Their trunks are as thick as castle towers, and their bark is a deep bronze color. They stand up like humans, and countless branches are released to form a huge canopy. Below the canopy, there is a crack that looks like a human face.
Oak trees stand guard.
These were the two seeds that Giselle had left for Lilith. Lilith had planted them carelessly downstairs in her dormitory, occasionally using magic to encourage their growth. To this day, they were only a little over a meter tall.
But at this moment, their size has swelled to more than ten times, transforming them into true forest colossi!
The "angel" flew overhead amidst the chanting of those favored by God, raising its arm once more.
But an oak tree guardian that had already stretched out suddenly swung its giant arm and grabbed the "angel's" wing, tearing it down from mid-air. The solidified light element collided violently with the vibrant wood element power, producing a sizzling corrosion sound and a muffled cracking sound.
The two enormous figures fought like wild beasts!
