Positive little sun, magical girl, I am awesome
Chapter 590 The Song of Looking Back
Zephyrion showed a moment of panic, but still managed a haughty snort: "What can I do? Just return it to its rightful owner!"
He pointed to the scepter in Goredia's arms, "And ask her for a small favor."
Lilith was almost driven mad by his nonchalant attitude. The water that had overflowed from the pool due to the fight was already above her ankles, soaking her skirt and socks. The dampness was awful, but what was worse, there were many pieces of parchment floating on the murky water.
Although most of the books in the Mirror Lake Library had been taken away by the elves, it was not empty. For example, the notebook she had read back then was taken from here.
At this moment, there was truly nothing left. Lilith's mind was buzzing; she felt that all the years she had worked so hard at the winery had been for nothing. If there were any precious magical tomes among them, how would she compensate them?
"Is this how you ask for help?" Her temples throbbed.
Zephyr opened his mouth as if to argue, but Aryan had already slipped past Lilith, waded through the water to a pile of overturned bookshelf wreckage, and dragged a person out from underneath.
The man lay unconscious in the water, his face covered in blood, obscuring his features, except for his blue hair, which was clearly visible.
Lucas!
Lilith's pupils shrank, and she quickly ran over as well.
"It's alright, it's alright, he's still angry!"
Aryan had already checked the boy's pulse and secretly breathed a sigh of relief. He was about to jokingly remark that Lord Zephyrion had actually shown mercy when he looked up and saw the anger in Lilith's eyes. He quickly fell silent and straightened his expression.
“This isn’t a normal injury.” Lilith tried several healing spells without success, and when she tried again, her head started to throb. She could only signal to Aryan to carry Lucas: “Quick, we need to get him to the infirmary.”
"Yes!" Aryan nimbly carried Lucas on his back, and the two of them completely left Zephyrion aside, busying themselves with their own tasks before leaving.
“Hey…” Zephyrion instinctively followed a few steps behind Lilith, muttering in dissatisfaction, “He’s not going to die…”
Lilith's pent-up anger could no longer be contained. She suddenly turned around, jumped up, and smacked Zephyr on the head.
A sharp "bang" echoed through the silent Great Archives, causing even Gretia, who had remained indifferent to her surroundings, to raise her head in bewilderment.
Aryan laughed out loud.
Zephyrion was stunned. He looked at Aryan, who was smiling brightly behind Lilith, and finally realized belatedly that he had been tricked by this wicked elf!
"you--!!!"
Zephyrion was so angry that white smoke was coming out of his nose as he watched Aryan carry Lucas away. However, he was dazed by the series of slaps from Lilith and could only watch helplessly as Aryan slipped away.
"Harmful evil spirit!"
Lilith grabbed Zephyrion, who was much taller than her, and punched him hard. She was really angry. Every day because of him, she was either treated as a dragon's illegitimate daughter or a pervert with a mysterious orientation. Now she had caused trouble and even appeared in front of the principal!
"Do you feel uncomfortable if you don't cause trouble every day?!"
"She started it!"
Zephyrion, clutching his head, was filled with shame and anger at being beaten in front of Gladys. As he dodged, he pointed at Gladys, who was watching them, and shouted, "I only said a few words to her, and she attacked me! I'm injured too!"
"So what!" Lilith's subordinate continued his snarling, "So you're going to hurt my friend?"
"But...that was her doing too!" Zephyrion continued to argue.
Lilith didn't believe her and continued beating her with a cold laugh.
Seeing her like this, Zephyrion got angry and broke free from Lilith: "You don't believe me? I'm your best friend!"
"Get out of the way!" Lilith shoved him aside in annoyance and waded through the water to the edge of the pool to check on Gretia's condition.
"Principal, are you alright?" Lilith asked cautiously.
The scepter in the mermaid's arms shimmered with an eerie light. As Lilith bent down to check if she was injured, her gaze lingered for a moment on the conspicuous object. Goredia immediately clutched the scepter tightly.
"I won't touch it, I won't touch it." Lilith quickly raised her hands and stepped back, remembering how gently he called her name when they first met.
In the mermaid's eyes back then, was she the person she is now, or the person she was a thousand years ago...?
Lilith paused for a moment, then tentatively called out softly, "Gredia, do you... remember me? Do you remember Lilith?"
These words brought the mermaid's expression to life again. She slowly tilted her head to look at Lilith, her guardedness melting away and gradually turning into confusion.
This finally made the black dragon beside him realize something was wrong: "What does that mean? Why is she ignoring everyone?"
“She’s old.” Looking at the mermaid’s blank expression, Lilith felt a pang of sorrow. “She’s gradually forgetting everything and acting solely on instinct. You invaded her territory without permission; didn’t you deserve to be attacked?”
Lilith closed her eyes. Principal Grandia was also an Elite, which meant that they had once been partners in resisting the Void, but now they didn't remember each other.
"What?!" The black dragon's voice suddenly rose, and he frantically stepped forward, shaking Greta's shoulders. "Don't you even recognize me? I'm Zephyrion! Wait! Do you still remember how to sing the Song of Retrospection?"
"Stop making a scene!" Lilith, unable to bear it any longer, grabbed him and pulled him away from the principal.
"I...I did it all for you!" Zephyr felt incredibly wronged, thinking about how he had traveled a long way only to be beaten and scolded by Lilith the moment they met.
"If it weren't for helping you regain your memories, who would bother with this mermaid? Do you think I wanted to come to this lousy school? It's all because you wouldn't leave!"
"Find the memories, then what? What are you trying to prove?" Lilith glared at him.
“You’re wrong! It wasn’t the merman who was staring blankly at me, Zephyrion said seriously, “It wasn’t that person who tricked you! It must have been someone else who harmed you.”
Lilith was taken aback. Ever since she guessed that the system existed, she had basically assumed that this unknown entity had used her and then abandoned her. So, compared to others' exploration of her past life, she had never been as interested.
It was only when Zephyrion brought it up again that I realized how persistent this guy was about this matter.
Lilith was silent for a moment, then said in a low voice, "So you know that of the people who survived back then, only you and Gladys are left? Are you doubting her?"
“I never doubted her!” Zephyrion glanced at Gladys, his voice trailing off: “She… she’s not just your friend, she’s mine too!”
"Why are you still so certain it's not that one—"
Lilith suddenly fell silent. She saw Zephyrion's face turn icy cold as he stared intently behind her.
She turned her head and saw that Simon had silently appeared at the entrance of the damaged Mirror Lake Grand Library, watching them quietly.
