Pedestrians all had smiles on their faces, children were laughing and playing in the streets and alleys, holding newly bought firecrackers and fireworks tightly in their hands, and excitedly discussing their "carnival plans" for the evening.

Gu Fanxing pasted a big "Fu" character in the middle of the living room. Grandma stood by, squinting her eyes and said, "Once this Fu character is pasted, good fortune will come to our family. We will definitely have a smooth new year."

Afterwards, they hung two big red lanterns at the door. When Gu Fanxing climbed up the ladder to hang the lanterns, her grandmother held her tightly from below, muttering, "Be careful, be careful."

The moment the lights came on, the warm light reflected grandma's happy face, and the living room was full of warmth.

Gu Fanxing kneaded the dough, feeling it gradually become delicate and elastic.

After kneading the dough, she divided it into small pieces, removed the core of the red dates and chopped them into pieces, wrapped them together with sugar into the dough, made them into round rice cake doughs, and then placed the rice cake doughs neatly in the steamer.

As the steamer starts to boil, the kitchen is filled with the sweet aroma of glutinous rice.

Grandma smiled and said, "The rice cakes are ready. Our family will surely be better off year after year in the new year." Rice cakes symbolize "better year after year," just as the ancient poem "Rice cakes have a deeper meaning, their white color is like silver and their yellow color is like gold. I hope for good fortune as we grow older, and I pray devoutly for wealth to come to me." The beautiful expectations expressed in the poem are full of wishes for a prosperous life in the new year.
