Chapter 583: Scar Removal
Watching Zheng Qiang walk away, the smile on He Feng's face vanished completely, as if frozen by frost, his eyes shimmering with coldness. He had given Zheng Qiang every chance, from initial insinuations to subtle reminders, but he remained stubborn, sinking deeper and deeper into the abyss. At this moment, He Feng was completely hopeless. His fingertips tapped lightly on the table, each beat like a final verdict—since he refused to turn back, there was no need to leave him any room for maneuver.
Zheng Qiang returned to his office, closed the door behind him, and his first instinct was to reach for the phone on his desk. His fingertips barely touched the receiver when he abruptly pulled them back. It suddenly occurred to him that He Feng was incredibly meticulous and might have spies or some kind of monitoring device installed. If he called now to tip him off, wouldn't that be a trap?
He paced around the room impatiently for two circles, and finally gave up the idea of making a phone call. He sat down on a chair and thought to himself: Anyway, time has already told Scar through secret codes that the weapon in that guy's hand is powerful enough, and he will definitely teach Zhang Shi and his gang a lesson tomorrow. Let's see how Zhang Shi will continue the investigation then.
Elsewhere, Zhang Shi had gathered all the team members and was heading to the armory as planned. "Everyone, be alert," he instructed as they walked. "Check your weapons carefully after receiving them. Tomorrow's operation cannot afford any mistakes. Everything must go according to plan." The team members responded in unison, their steps firm and powerful.
As Zheng Qiang was leaving, he happened to run into Zhang Shi and his group at the corner of the corridor. He put on his usual smile and walked over to them and asked, "Captain Zhang, are you leading the brothers to get weapons?"
Zhang Shi nodded and said in a concise tone: "Yes, we have to check our equipment carefully before taking action tomorrow. Director Zheng, I have to go busy myself first, we can talk later." After that, he led his men to move forward without giving Zheng Qiang a chance to say more.
Zheng Qiang looked at their backs, the smile on his lips faded, and without saying anything more, he turned and walked away.
Scar had already received the news from Zheng Qiang. He was standing in the middle of the warehouse, lecturing his men with spit flying, "Listen up! Tomorrow is our day to show off. If those police uniformed men dare to come, we'll beat them to death. Don't spare a single one!"
He patted a long wooden box beside him, and the faint sound of metal clashing could be heard from inside, clearly hiding some tough stuff. "Come on, everyone, bring me some wine!" Scar's voice boomed. "We're going to have a real fight tomorrow, so we have to drink our hearts out today! They won't be here until this afternoon anyway, so we have plenty of time to rest!"
His men immediately brought in several boxes of low-quality liquor, tore off the bottle caps and poured it into the bowls. For a moment, the warehouse was filled with the pungent smell of alcohol, and the sounds of finger-guessing games and laughter came one after another. No one noticed that danger was quietly approaching.
Just as Scar and his companions were drunk, their faces flushed with anger, a sudden sound of footsteps could be heard outside the warehouse. Li Chuan and Li Jie, leading two teams, had already approached like two silent shadows, their guns loaded and pointed steadily at the warehouse door. They effortlessly controlled the surrounding high ground, surrounding Scar's territory so tightly that not even a mosquito could escape.
Li Jie lowered his voice into his headset, speaking at a steady pace without a trace of emotion. "Reporting to the team leader, the outer area is completely under control. Personnel are in place at the east, west, and north points, forming a siege and awaiting operational instructions."
Li Chuan stood in the shadows of a street corner, tapping his fingertips lightly on the pistol at his waist. The coolness of the metal, permeating the fabric, made him more alert. He looked toward where Li Jie was hiding not far away, and spoke in a serious tone, "Alright, follow the plan and charge in with your brothers. Remember, don't shoot unless absolutely necessary. Try to capture them alive. They might have more important clues. Understood?"
Li Jie nodded heavily, his eyes as sharp as a hawk, sweeping over the team members behind him who were ready to go: "Don't worry, team leader, this is not the first time we have dealt with such a situation, and we know what we are doing." After that, he raised his hand and made a gesture to the twenty or so team members behind him - put his five fingers together and pressed down suddenly.
The team members immediately understood and adjusted their tactical stances. They tapped their toes, their feet treading on the soft fallen leaves, making almost no sound, like a pack of cheetahs poised for a pounce. Li Jie led the charge, using the mottled courtyard wall for cover, crouching and rapidly approaching the back door of Scar's stronghold. The old wooden door was ajar, a dim light filtering through the crack, and the faint sounds of finger-guessing games and crude laughter and curses could be heard from within.
He signaled two of his men to stand on either side of the door, while he took a deep breath, jerked the bolt open, and slipped in sideways like a cat. In the courtyard behind the door, two young men, pipes in their mouths, dozed against the wall, their pipes flickering. Before they could react, a team member who had followed them in delivered a precise chop to the back of their necks. Without even a groan, they collapsed, quickly dragged behind a pile of firewood.
The several outposts on the periphery were thus silently dispatched. Li Jie gestured "continue," and the group crouched as they made their way through the cluttered courtyard to the windows of the main house. The clamor inside grew clearer—"Five Leaders!" "Six, six, six!" the sounds of finger-guessing games, the clinking of glasses, and the rasping laughter and curses. It was clear that the people inside were drunk and unprepared.
"Three, two, one!" Li Jie mouthed the countdown. The moment the last word fell, he suddenly kicked the door. The wooden door, which was not very sturdy to begin with, was kicked open with a clang. Wood chips flew everywhere, and the door panel hit the wall with a loud bang.
The occupants of the room were instantly startled and sobered. A dozen drunken men whipped their heads around, their hands still clutching their wine bowls or bottles, their eyes blank and filled with panic. "Who?!" someone yelled, instinctively reaching under the table—where a shiny machete was hidden.
But the men Li Jie had brought were even faster. They charged in like arrows, their movements clean and precise, as if they'd been rehearsed a thousand times: The foremost man lunged at the nearest burly man, his left arm locking him by the throat. His right hand, like a pincer, snatched the machete he'd picked up. He jammed his knee into the man's knee, sending him tumbling to his knees, gnashing with pain. Another man, using the overturned eight-immortals table as cover, effortlessly dodged a swung bottle and, with a backhanded grab, twisted the man's arm behind his back, pinning him to the table with a snap, rendering him immobile.
Although Scar's minions were numerous and powerful, most of them were still drunk and their steps were as unsteady as if they were walking on cotton. In addition, they were usually lazy and neglected training. How could they be a match for these specially trained team members?
