Chapter 229 The Young Master's Sword
Baron Famion was a burly man, wearing a gorgeous cloak, with a resolute and gentle face, and wisdom and authority in his eyes. He was well-dressed, with a badge of noble status on his chest, and walked steadily, as if every step was declaring his status.
The Baroness walked gracefully beside him, with a warm smile on her face, giving people a kind of intimacy. Her long hair cascaded over her shoulders, and her dress was light, like a spring flower.
The two young masters and young lady were behind them, looking lively and out of place with their surroundings.
The eldest son's name is Feiqi. He is wearing the school uniform of the Arcane Academy. The white shirt and dark blue jacket complement each other and make him look particularly energetic.
The young master's name is Kenan. Unlike the eldest master's elegance, the aristocratic clothes he wears look very awkward, and he does not have the aristocratic elegance at all. He looks more like a... wild child?
As for the eldest sister, her name was Yufei. Because she was wearing a veil, Ed didn't know what she looked like, but judging from her figure, she must be a pretty lady.
After the greeting, Ed looked at the eldest son entering the mansion with great curiosity. Butler Langman noticed Ed's curiosity, smiled slightly, and asked, "What's wrong, Ed?"
"The clothes that the young master is wearing..." Ed stammered, his heart full of envy.
Butler Langman proudly said to Ed, "The eldest son will go to the Arcane Academy to study next year. That outfit is the school uniform issued by the academy."
"Arcane Academy?" Ed couldn't help but exclaimed, his eyes gleaming with desire, "Is it the legendary Arcane Academy, the holy land of magic and learning recorded in the book?"
Butler Langman nodded, his face showing affirmation: "The legend is a bit exaggerated, but you are right, it is the Arcane Academy!"
After listening to this, Ed's eyes revealed envy and longing, but he also knew that his identity had no chance of entering the Arcane Academy, so he could only suppress his excitement and continue to focus on his work.
The return of Baron Farmien and his family did not bring any changes to Ed. He continued to carry out his library management work as usual, silently looking forward to future possibilities.
As night fell, the Baron Farmien's mansion looked particularly quiet and mysterious under the starlight. Ed closed the book in his hand and gently put it back on the bookshelf, his heart filled with a desire for knowledge and a vision for the future.
He carried a night light and slowly walked out of the library, intending to go to his dormitory. The corridor was quiet, with only the sound of the swaying candlelight and the slight sound of footsteps echoing in the air.
When he passed by the training hall, he suddenly heard a series of ping-pong sounds. Out of curiosity, Ed walked over to take a peek.
Through the window, he saw Baron Famion's son, Conan, practicing sword fighting with the guards of the manor. The two of them fought back and forth, their movements were swift and agile, Conan's face was focused, the sword flashed, as if he was enjoying the pleasure of fighting.
With a crisp collision, Kenan's sword hit the guard's sword accurately, and then he laughed proudly, as if he was proud of his performance.
"You are awesome, young master!" the guard praised with a smile, a hint of respect in his tone.
However, Ed noticed the guard's actions, shook his head silently, and thought to himself: This guard was obviously giving in, deliberately letting the opponent win, and finally lost on purpose.
Just as Ed was about to leave, Ke Nan called him coldly: "Hey, the guy behind the door, you have been looking at me for so long, and you are still shaking your head. What do you mean? Are you looking down on my swordsmanship?"
Ed's heart tightened, and he immediately stopped and greeted Ke Nan who was walking over: "Young Master, that's not what I meant--"
Ke Nan snorted coldly, raised the wooden sword in his hand, and looked sharp: "You just shook your head, didn't you?"
Ed was speechless for a moment. After all, he was a man who could not lie. He hesitated for a moment and finally nodded.
Konan clicked his tongue, then threw down the wooden sword in his hand and ordered, "Pick it up and come in!"
Ed was at a loss for a moment. Konan said coldly, "Don't make me say it a second time!" He had no choice but to do as he was told, secretly guessing the young master's intentions in his heart.
After entering the training hall, Ke Nan picked up another wooden sword, pointed it at Ed and said, "Come, let me see what you are capable of. You are not satisfied with my swordsmanship!"
Ed immediately panicked and stammered, "I...I don't know swordsmanship. I've never learned it!"
Ke Nan's eyes became even colder: "Fight me right now, or you'll be in trouble!" He obviously didn't intend to let Ed go, and a cold look of excitement appeared on his face. This matter concerned his dignity. He might be able to accept being looked down upon by his father or brother, but being looked down upon by a servant was something he absolutely could not tolerate.
Ed thought to himself that facing the young master's threat, he knew that it was better to take the initiative to fight than to be taught a lesson, at least it was better than death. He thought of the sacrifices his parents made to allow him to pursue his dreams, and his heart was slightly shocked. He didn't want to ruin their expectations, nor did he want to be arbitrarily disposed of by the nobles here.
So, he picked up the sword, tried to recall the movements of the guard just now, and took a stance. When Conan saw the posture that Ed had taken, a cold and excited expression appeared on his face: "Very good! Very good!"
He thought to himself: This contest is not only a contest of swordsmanship, but also a defense of his dignity.
Kenan held the wooden sword in his hand, with a provocative look on his face, and said to Ed coldly: "Don't say I'm bullying you. I'll let you have three moves first."
When Ed heard this, he knew that he couldn't avoid this duel. He was not the kind of person who would just run away. He clenched his sword tightly and thought to himself: Since we have to fight, I'll go all out!
Ed was ready to strike, and suddenly slashed at Konan, with the wooden sword colliding with the sword body making a crisp sound. Konan easily parried his attack and bounced Ed's sword away with his backhand.
Through this confrontation, Kenan immediately realized that Ed had never learned any sword skills, and couldn't help but sneer, "Is that all?"
Ed felt a sharp pain in his wrist and the shock made him feel very uncomfortable. He thought to himself: If I hadn't built up a good body by chopping wood in the mountains every day, the sword in my hand would probably have flown out with that blow just now.
Ed didn't think twice and swung his sword at Konan again. Konan easily deflected Ed's sword again and smiled in his heart, thinking that this battle was a foregone conclusion.
However, Ed was not affected by Conan's ridicule. Instead, he took a deep breath. The young man's passion and unwillingness to admit defeat made him hold the sword tightly in his hand.
