Legend of the Spirit Realm
Chapter 42 Mysterious Desert
Hearing the low roar, Su Xiaodai and Ling'er's heartbeats instantly accelerated, and fear surged into their hearts like a tide.
The monster's footsteps were getting closer and closer, and every step was like a heavy hammer hitting their hearts. With the weak light, they finally saw the monster's appearance. It was a giant beast as big as a mountain, with sharp thorns all over its body, and sickening hot air spewed out of its bloody mouth.
Su Xiaodai and Ling'er subconsciously stepped back, their backs pressed against the cold wall.
"This...what should I do?" Ling'er's voice trembled with unconcealable fear.
Su Xiaodai pretended to be calm and said, "Don't be afraid, Ling'er, we will definitely find a way." But his voice was trembling slightly, revealing his inner nervousness.
The monster approached step by step, with cruel light flashing in its eyes. Su Xiaodai and Ling'er could clearly feel the ground trembling under the monster's footsteps.
"Run!" Su Xiaodai shouted, pulled Ling'er and ran in the other direction.
They ran desperately in the maze, with the roar of the monsters and the sound of heavy footsteps echoing in their ears. Every turn and every sprint seemed like a struggle on the brink of life and death.
Their breathing became rapid and their hearts beat like drums. Ling'er staggered and almost fell. Su Xiaodai quickly supported her and continued to move forward.
The monsters behind them were chasing them relentlessly, and they could feel the suffocating pressure getting closer and closer.
Suddenly, three forks in the road appeared before them.
"Which way?" Ling'er asked anxiously.
Su Xiaodai's brain was working rapidly, but at this critical moment of life and death, he was not completely sure.
"Left!" Su Xiaodai gritted his teeth and made a decision.
They rushed into the passage on the left, but after running for long, they found that it was a dead end.
"It's over..." Ling'er's tears burst out.
Su Xiaodai looked at the approaching monster in despair, his heart filled with resentment.
Just when the monster was about to pounce, Su Xiaodai suddenly discovered a mechanism on the wall.
"Ling'er, come here quickly!" he shouted.
Ling'er hurried over and they pressed the mechanism together.
There was a roar, and the wall slowly rose up, revealing a hidden passage.
They entered the passage without hesitation, and heard the angry roar of the monster behind them.
The passage was filled with thick dust, making it difficult to breathe. But they did not dare to stop and ran forward with one foot deep and one foot shallow.
After running for an unknown amount of time, they finally saw a faint light ahead.
"It's the exit!" Ling'er shouted excitedly.
They quickened their pace and ran towards the light. When they rushed out of the passage, the sunlight shone on them. They had never felt the sunlight so warm and so comforting.
However, before they could celebrate, they found themselves in an even more dangerous situation...
Su Xiaodai and Ling'er were breathing heavily. They had not yet recovered from the thrill of the moment, but found themselves in a vast desert.
The scorching sun baked the earth mercilessly, and the sand was so hot that it almost burned the soles of your feet.
"Where is this?" Ling'er asked in despair.
Su Xiaodai looked around, also confused: "I don't know, but we must find a way out."
They dragged their tired bodies and struggled forward step by step in the desert. Not long after walking, Ling'er felt dizzy due to lack of water.
"Su Xiaodai, I... I can't walk anymore." Ling'er said weakly.
Su Xiaodai looked at Ling'er distressedly, took out the remaining water from his arms, and handed it to Ling'er: "Drink some water, and hold on a little longer."
At this moment, a strong wind suddenly blew up, and a sky full of yellow sand swept in, instantly submerging them.
Su Xiaodai held Ling'er tightly, fearing that they would be blown apart. After the strong wind, they found themselves lost.
"This is bad, where should we go?" Ling'er's eyes were full of helplessness.
Su Xiaodai tried to calm himself down and observed the surrounding terrain. Suddenly, he found a sand dune in the distance with a strange shape.
"Let's go towards that sand dune, maybe we'll find something."
When they finally climbed up the sand dune, they found a bottomless sand pit on the other side of the dune.
Ling'er slipped and nearly fell into the sand pit, but Su Xiaodai was quick to pull her back.
"careful!"
At this time, the sky gradually darkened and the temperature dropped sharply. The cold and hunger attacked them at the same time, and they almost lost consciousness.
"You can't fall down like this." Su Xiaodai gritted his teeth and encouraged Ling'er.
Just when they were about to despair, Ling'er discovered that there seemed to be some strange patterns on the wall of the sand pit.
"Su Xiaodai, look at those lines, could they be some kind of clue?"
After a careful observation, Su Xiaodai said in surprise: "This seems to be an ancient map!"
They continued to move forward following the instructions on the map. After walking for an unknown amount of time, they finally saw the shadow of an oasis.
However, when they ran towards the oasis excitedly, they found that the oasis was full of traps.
"Be careful!" Su Xiaodai warned loudly.
Ling'er accidentally triggered a trap, and a sharp arrow shot towards her. Su Xiaodai rushed over and blocked Ling'er. The sharp arrow flew past his shoulder, leaving a deep cut.
"Su Xiaodai, are you okay?" Ling'er asked anxiously.
"I'm fine, just be careful where you step." Su Xiaodai said while enduring the pain.
They carefully avoided traps and finally arrived at an oasis. But before they could even drink a sip of water, a group of robbers suddenly rushed out of the woods.
"Hand over all the treasures on you!" said the bandit leader viciously.
Su Xiaodai and Ling'er looked at each other and tightened their weapons...
