HP: Let professors walk towards the light
Chapter 63 Basilisk
On Valentine's Day, the auditorium looked different than ever before. The walls were covered with pink and greasy flowers, and heart-shaped colored paper kept floating down from the ceiling.
"Happy Valentine's Day!"
Lockhart was wearing a very bright pink robe and a big pink flower on his ear. He stood on the stage and waved his hands. The other teachers in the teaching seats all had stiff expressions. The muscles on Professor McGonagall's face twitched slightly. Professor Snape watched all this numbly.
"I have a surprise!" Lockhart clapped his hands, and a group of dwarfs walked in from the entrance of the hall in a line. They had golden wings and held harps, which was simply too funny.
These dwarfs jumped up and down in the castle at will, broke into classrooms, interrupted professors' classes, read other people's love letters loudly, and the main theme was a public execution.
"boom!"
The door of the Potions classroom was suddenly opened, and all the students who were preparing potions turned to look at the door.
An ugly dwarf held up a pink envelope and shouted, "Here's a love letter! To Hermalei of Slytherin—"
"Everything is petrified."
Reina stood up and directly interrupted the dwarf's output with a spell, threw it out, and locked the door.
"I am so sorry to bother you, Professor Snape."
She apologized calmly and slowly sat back, as if nothing had happened.
"Wow... so awesome..." Neville said sullenly.
Many students were stunned by Reina's clean and neat performance. Indeed, many things can be easily solved with magic spells, but few people do so. Obviously, students have not yet fully applied the magic they have learned to their lives. In the final analysis, it is because of some strange rules that while protecting students, they also prevent them from truly practicing.
"You used the spell very well. One point for Slytherin. Also, Talros, remember to open the door after class and continue the class." Rena's action made Snape in a good mood.
With Reina's action, many classmates began to follow suit. Whenever they encountered a dwarf looking for them, they would petrify or knock the dwarf unconscious. Although Hogwarts did not allow students to cast magic in the corridor, on that day even the usually strict Professor McGonagall turned a blind eye and would not do anything even if she saw it as long as it was not excessive.
Hermione came back from the library and found the two eating.
"Oh my God, it's unimaginable that you two didn't go to the library. That would be a disaster!" Hermione sat opposite the two of them, looking angry.
"There are flowers on every book, and the bookshelf has turned pink. Please let this day pass quickly."
"What a bad day! I'm afraid that ugly dwarf will appear in my mind every Valentine's Day from now on." Ron looked disgusted.
"Let's not talk about this for now. I found this in the library. Take a look."
Hermione unfolded a note and showed it to both men.
[Of all the terrible beasts and monsters that still roam the world, none is more bizarre and deadly than the basilisk. This snake is gigantic, can live for countless centuries, and is hatched from a rooster egg in the belly of a toad. The most bizarre thing about it is the way it kills, not only does it have deadly fangs, but it also has a gaze that is so dangerous that anyone who comes into contact with it will die instantly. The basilisk is the natural enemy of spiders, and where there are basilisks, spiders cannot exist. The crowing of a rooster is deadly to the basilisk, so where there are roosters, the basilisk cannot exist.]
"Now, we are very sure that it is the basilisk. First, the strange sound that only Harry can hear is the sound of the basilisk. Second, we found that many spiders in the school are crawling out. Third, only one cat and one ghost have been attacked in the school so far. This is because the basilisk is afraid of roosters. We have all heard the sound of roosters, so it has not dared to come out to harm students until now."
Hermione analyzed them one by one.
"So, what Reina said is true," Harry said.
"Sounds like that," Ron nodded.
"I just met Reina in the library, and she told me a more important piece of news." Hermione asked the two to get closer, and she whispered, "The last time the Chamber of Secrets was opened was when Reina's grandfather was in school. She learned from her grandfather's diary that a girl should have died when the Chamber of Secrets was opened. At that time, Reina's grandfather's classmate, a top student named Tom Riddle -"
"I know him!" Ron interrupted Hermione and said, "He won the school's special contribution award fifty years ago."
"How did you know?" Hermione asked in surprise.
"Filch made me wipe his badge over fifty times in detention. If you spent an hour wiping snot on a name, you'd remember it, too," said Ron angrily.
"I thought you'd know something, go on, what happened to that top student?" said Harry.
"Not very good news. Tom Riddle reported that it was Hagrid who opened the Chamber of Secrets and released the monster inside - the basilisk, which caused the death of the girl. In the end, Hagrid was expelled from the school."
"That's impossible!" Harry protested. "How could Hagrid tame a basilisk?"
"Although it's impossible, Hagrid is indeed good at those huge and scary animals. That dragon caused you to lose 150 points. And there's also that three-headed dog 'Fluvia'. If there was a basilisk, I think Hagrid would definitely want to raise it." Ron said sullenly.
"And... Harry, we all know that Hagrid was indeed expelled from school. At least Grandpa Reina's notes are real, but there must be some misunderstandings here." Hermione said.
"Is there a possibility? Didn't you just say that he was a classmate of Reina's grandfather? That means he is a Slytherin. You know what I mean..." Ron glanced in the direction of the Slytherin table.
"It's not impossible."
The three of them fell into silence for a long time, and Hermione spoke again: "We can't find Riddle, but why don't we ask Hagrid?"
"Oh no, it'll be a special visit, let's go inside, how are you? Hagrid, tell us, have you let some giant, slippery basilisk loose in the castle lately?"
"But what if someone dies like fifty years ago?" Hermione asked worriedly.
"Isn't there a rooster?" Ron said, "The rooster must have been released by someone, right? Nothing major has happened since the Chamber of Secrets was opened, which means someone is already saving the world. We'd better not get involved. At worst, there's still Dumbledore. That Slytherin heir can't cause any trouble."
What Ron said was indeed very reasonable. What was the use of knowing so much? No matter how much they wanted to help, they couldn't fight the basilisk alone. They were just a group of second-year students.
