Chapter 165: Kreacher the House-Elf
"Listen, I am your master. Get out of here and don't come out again!" Sirius kicked Kreacher away again.
"Merlin! There's no need to treat him like this." Hermione frowned and looked worriedly towards the place where Kreacher left.
"Those are house-elves. They are servants in the wizarding world. It is common for wealthy wizards to have slave elves at their disposal." Lena explained without paying too much attention to it.
"Like Dobby," Harry added, "that troublesome elf I told you about before. It's completely different from Kreacher, but both are weird."
"Don't forget how badly Dobby tricked the two of us, your arm." Ron poked Harry's arm.
"But we can't treat them like this. Sirius's actions are too cruel. That's a life!" Hermione looked a little anxious.
"The Black family may be a little special. I also have house-elfs at home." Reina touched Hermione's back, and the children's attention immediately focused on Reina.
"Yes! I heard you mention it when we entered first year," said Harry.
Fred: "Rich wizard."
George: "To drive the slaves."
"No! This sounds too depressing. Reina, are house-elves paid? I mean they're not like slaves..." Hermione immediately covered her mouth.
"Paying a house elf a salary? I've never heard of it. Why, you're quite an unusual kid."
Sirius, who had listened halfway, looked at Reina with interest. Could it be that the Talros family gave preferential treatment to house-elves? As far as he knew, those pure-blood families used house-elves as a matter of course, unless those who had a little money to buy elves might treat them a little better.
That old Kreacher kept calling people traitors and swearing all the time. Not only was he sinister, but he also always let that old woman out. He was exactly the same as those pedantic guys. Seeing that guy reminded me of those arrogant people in Black.
"They don't accept money or any other compensation. They serve me and I provide them with shelter and food in the manor," said Lena.
"This is unequal. Just like a house nanny is the most basic job, what they should have most is freedom and equal rights." Hermione looked at Lena and Sirius disapprovingly.
"I thought they were just like goblins, serving wizards and being respected, but today I learned that they were actually enslaved! Shouldn't they be set free?"
"Hermione!" Ron pulled Hermione over and said, "Stop talking. Reina's house..."
He blinked and tried to hint. He didn't know what Hermione was thinking, but he knew about house-elves, and he guessed that besides Reina, there were only those elves at home. He also knew Hermione's personality. What if the two of them quarreled over this house-elves? And in Harry's house, he would be the most embarrassed. He was Commander Ron, and he must not let this happen!
Of course, Reina knew what Hermione was thinking. The house-elves in her family had been there since her grandfather was a child. After hearing about Hermione's ideas, she could accept the liberation of the house-elves, but she did not agree with Hermione's radical approach. After all, the Dobbies in the world were still a minority.
Lena once brought up the topic of reward with the elves at home, and the result was that the old butler Piss tried to commit suicide and gave his last words, Lor screamed like a ghost at home, and the quietest Juanjuan wiped the floor with tears while washing clothes. Looking back now, it was really a headache.
"Freedom? I don't know what you're thinking. If you pay them, they'll think you've abandoned them and commit suicide. House-elves are different from goblins. Goblins are very cunning. I think you should know the history of goblin rebellions."
Sirius crossed his legs and leaned back on the sofa, not taking Hermione's words to heart. In his opinion, it was normal for Hermione not to know the underlying conventions in the wizarding world, but he was happy to answer them.
Reina couldn't help but press her temple and said, "Hermione, this matter is not as simple as you said. Equality and freedom are not just talk. The goblin rebellion can even be traced back to the 17th century. There are still many wizards who don't like goblins, so even if you want to, don't be too hasty."
She knew that Hermione seemed to have formed a group related to house-elves, but this was not an easy path to take.
"Is there no other way? Sirius, you should be gentler to Kreacher." Hermione looked at Sirius.
"That kind of guy doesn't--"
"It's time to eat--" Lupin put his hands on Sirius' shoulders and interrupted Sirius.
"We can move to the dining room now." He smiled at Harry and pulled Sirius up from the sofa.
"Let's go eat first, Hermione. Let's talk about this later. Let's focus more on studying for next school year." Harry called everyone to the dining table.
"Anyway, I'm doomed in Potions. Harry and I only chose two electives. This year, Fred and George are ranked higher than me in the grade. Mum scolded me severely." said Ron.
Fred: “Are our grades bad?”
George: "Anyway, little Ronnie has the worst grades."
"What are you talking to the children about? Why are you hitting old Kreacher in front of Harry's friends? You don't act like an elder at all..." Lupin, who was walking behind, was quietly "educating" Sirius.
Reina, who was closest to them, heard everything clearly. When she sat down, she glanced at Lupin, and their eyes happened to meet. The two of them exchanged a polite greeting and started their meal.
?
"Kreacher - Kreacher -"
After dinner, Hermione found an excuse to get rid of Fred and George, and sneaked to some corners to try to call Kreacher out.
"what!"
Suddenly a hand patted Hermione on the shoulder, scaring her.
Hermione turned around abruptly, and Reyna motioned for her to keep her voice down so as not to attract the attention of others.
“Rei… Reina, um, come here…”
"If you don't want that guy to throw things at you, it's better not to look for it." Lena pulled Hermione to the stairs.
"What do you mean?" Hermione asked in disbelief.
"Sirius and Lupin said so. Besides, Kreacher is an old stubborn man and a loyal servant of the Black family. Sirius was expelled from the Black family. Kreacher is not a friendly person." Reina explained. The two of them were now at the corner of the stairs on the second floor. Downstairs they could hear Harry and the others fighting. Lupin was pulling Sirius to clean up.
"But……"
"Don't say but. I know what you are thinking. You hope that those house-elves can be treated friendly, but if you rush in too recklessly, you will inevitably get hurt."
"I just wanted to try, they are so pitiful." Hermione sighed.
Reina suddenly closed the distance between her and Hermione, and whispered in her ear, "There are many house-elves living next to the kitchens of Hogwarts. They serve everyone in Hogwarts."
He winked at Hermione cutely and walked downstairs.
When Hermione realized what Reina meant, she immediately chased after her and followed Reina.
"You also think I'm right? Then can we..."
"Then you'd better give up. If Professor Snape finds out that I'm fooling around with you Gryffindors again, he will punish me. Don't forget our noble Slytherin."
"Hmph, Gryffindor is the best." Hermione folded her arms across her chest and snorted.
Not long after the Weasley twins finished their meal, they said they wanted to go to Diagon Alley to play. Arthur had made a lot of money recently, and Molly had started to increase the pocket money for the five children.
Ron did not go with them, but stayed at his good brother's house. Harry told everyone to go to his room. Lena made the excuse that she did not get enough rest and wanted to sleep for a while.
"Go to your room and sleep. There are so many rooms here that we can't let you sleep on the sofa. I'll take you to the guest room."
Watching Sirius take Harry and the others upstairs, Lupin looked at Reina tenderly on the sofa and led her to the guest room.
"It's easy to feel sleepy in the afternoon, so you can go to your room and have a good sleep. I won't let you miss the sumptuous dinner. Of course, I will save some for afternoon tea."
"Thank you so much. It's my fault for being such a rude guest." Reina said apologetically.
"I don't care about etiquette, and neither does Sirius. We are all Harry's friends, and you can come over often in the future."
Lupin opened a room and continued, "It's cleaned up, so it's OK to use for sleeping."
Reina thanked him again with a smile and entered the room. Lupin also closed the door and left.
After symbolically closing her eyes for half an hour, Reina got up and sat on the bed.
"Dobby, bring Kreacher here, don't let them get caught."
"Dobby knows." Dobby's voice sounded out of nowhere.
After a while, there was a "pop" in the air, and Dobby appeared in front of Reina's bed with old Kreacher.
"Miss, Dobby didn't let anyone find out." Dobby looked at Lena expectantly.
"well done."
After Reina finished speaking, Dobby became invisible again.
"A psychopath who pays gold coins to the house elves! He tried to kidnap old Kreacher, the only loyal member of the Black family! Someone -"
"Seal the tongue and lock the throat."
"Uuuuuu——"
Kreacher's scream was cut short and replaced by a whimper.
"Although I said I wanted to have a good rest, I also don't want to miss afternoon tea, so - take out the locket that Regulus gave you."
"Wuwuwu!" Another whimper, Kreacher covered his mouth and neck, shaking his head desperately.
"I can help you, no, help Regulus destroy it. I know Regulus gave you Slytherin's locket and asked you to destroy it, right? It's a pity that you can't do it, but I have a way."
Reina took out the bottle of snake venom liquid from the small white bag and shook it in front of Kreacher.
"You can think about it, but you don't have to answer. Just take action."
Kreacher stared at the bottle in Lena's hand, his eyes widened so wide that they almost popped out.
"You can't steal it from me. I will destroy it in front of you. If you behave well, I will have someone bring your master back. You'd better understand that you should stand on our side and fight for your master. That is the true loyal servant of Regulus."
Tears welled up in Kreacher's red eyes and he pounded his head hard.
After a long while, Kreacher finally stopped, staring at Reina, and disappeared from Reina's room for a few seconds before reappearing in the same place, holding the locket in his hand.
"Put it on the ground and step back a few steps."
Kreacher did as he was told, but his eyes were fixed on Reina's movements.
Reina got out of bed and cast a soundproofing spell on the door of the room. She didn't even bother to pick up the locket on the carpet. She just opened the bottle in her hand and poured the snake venom into it.
The snake venom took effect very quickly. Lena took two steps back to create some distance. After a strange sound, a puff of black smoke came out of the locket and dissipated into the air.
"Mmmmm!" Kreacher jumped up.
"If you don't want the remaining snake venom to corrode your hands, just touch it immediately." Reina looked at the locket box and felt relieved. She walked back to the bed, lifted the quilt and lay down.
Finally he reached out and removed the spell from Kreacher's mouth.
"Make sure there are no cuts on your hands and take the thing out of this room. You can keep it as a treasure, but I advise you not to carry it with you. Of course, if you want to experience the feeling of being killed by a little bit of snake venom, just ignore what I said."
After yawning, Reina really intended to take a nap, and of course she slept quite well.
Reina woke up at tea time and adjusted her skirt. The pendant hanging on her chest was the same as when she came, and the crystal clear gem embellishment still shone in the light.
After sunset, Reina and her friends had a lively dinner and prepared to leave.
"Reina, remember to write to me when you get back." Hermione hugged Reina and said goodbye to her.
"Reina, do you really not need to be sent away?" Harry asked again. Ron and Hermione would be picked up by someone, and he was a little worried about Reina being alone. Somerset was still some distance away from London.
"That's okay, I can take the Knight Bus, it won't take long."
After declining Harry and Lupin again, Reina headed towards the street alone.
It soon became completely dark. The street lights of Grimmauld Place illuminated the road. Reina saw a black figure standing on the side of the road a few streets away.
Although Snape mentioned that he would come to pick her up later, when Lena really saw the familiar figure standing in the distance waiting for her, her heart was immediately filled with joy.
This mood urged Lena to hurry up, and she trotted to Snape.
"Why are you running when you can just walk?"
Snape glanced at the intact pendant on Reina's chest.
“Because I’m happy.”
"Are you so happy playing with that boy? What's the point of jumping around like that?" Snape frowned.
"How could that be? I'm happy because you really came to pick me up." Lena put her hands behind her back and tilted her head to look at Snape.
Looking at Rena who was acting cute in front of him, Snape pursed his lips and stretched out his hand.
