"I was delayed on the way."
"It's better to come later. The pear soup I made this morning with honey from South City is just right."
The other servants had been driven away by Young Master Zhu, so Xi Zhenghe had no choice but to condescend and serve the food himself. He took off his scarf and coat and followed Zhu Can into the kitchen.
Without waiting for Zhu Can to reach for the spoon, Xi Zhenghe naturally took the bowl, served one portion to each of them, covered the pot and turned off the fire, then found a square placemat and placed it on the table before handing it to Zhu Can.
Zhu Can's face was full of smiles. Looking at the other person's face shrouded in mist, he said slowly, "Doctor Xi is very good at taking care of people."
Xi Zhenghe was about to bend down to look at the scratch on the other person's knee, but when he heard this, he paused for a second and then lowered his head.
Zhu Can was wearing a gray-blue velvet pajamas, which made him look as white as a piece of jade. His trouser legs were loose, and Xi Zhenghe pinched the edges of his pants to pull them up, only revealing the white edge of the bandage.
"Go to the couch."
Zhu Can happily sat on the sofa with the pear soup in his hand, with one leg raised high. Xi Zhenghe did not sit down, but half-knelt on the carpet in the aisle to make things easier.
Zhu Can held the soup in his mouth, his eyes lowered, as if he was looking at the luster in the bowl, but in fact his eyes had somehow fallen on the wrinkles of the other person's shirt at his waist.
"It might hurt a little."
Xi Zhenghe had untied the bandage at some point, revealing a large bruise, which was very obvious on his calf. If the color was darker, it would look like it had been burned by fire.
Zhu Can tilted his head, a little worried about leaving a scar.
"How long will it take to heal?"
Xi Zhenghe cleaned it up gently, and I didn't feel anything.
"A week at most."
"Will it leave scars?"
"It depends on one's physique."
"That's it." Zhu Can frowned. "When I was a kid, I fell on my knee while playing, and there's still a mark. It's so ugly to have something like this."
Xi Zhenghe sprinkled the powder on, wanting to examine the old scar, but then felt it would be awkward to roll up his trouser legs again. Some of the powder fell onto the surface of his dark trousers, like a cluster of twinkling stars in the night sky.
"Not ugly."
Xi Zhenghe is telling the truth. Compared with injuries, inflammation and infection, a mere scar is really nothing.
Zhu Can was moved when he heard this. He had never expected that someone like Doctor Xi would say such kind words. Zhu Can was certainly not ugly, and so many people were waiting for his favor.
Zhu Can leaned against the armrest of the sofa, a look of worry on his face. "I don't want anyone to see such a big scar. Could you please help me change the dressing later, Doctor Xi?"
Xi Zhenghe has been bandaged again, this time it is much thinner than before.
"Yes, you won't need to bandage it in a day or two. It will actually heal faster if it's exposed to the air."
Zhu Can took a sip of the pear soup and couldn't help but complain that the wound had become smaller.
"Thank you for your hard work, Doctor Xi."
Zhu Can handed over the pear soup on the small table beside him and started talking about the company: "That Southwest Herbal Medicine thing..."
"The dean told me that it was all thanks to Young Master Zhu for his help."
This dean is stealing his credit.
"Well, I'm very happy to be able to help Dr. Xi."
Xi Zhenghe dusted off the powder on his trouser legs. The powder was light and thin, dispersing in the air like smoke.
"This isn't just for me. Young Master Zhu and Mr. Zhu's actions have benefited patients in half of the county. They are truly noble and righteous, and they are heroes of the nation."
Zhu Can didn't want to listen to these clichés, so he put down the porcelain bowl, wiped his mouth, and looked straight at Xi Zhenghe:
"But I only mediated this because of you, Doctor Xi."
Xi Zhenghe lowered his brows and said, "Thank you, Master Zhu."
Zhu Can waited for a while, but didn't hear the second half of the sentence he expected, "I have nothing to repay you with, so I will give you my body." He could only curl his lips, thinking that maybe the atmosphere was not good. The empty hall was not conducive to deepening feelings.
"Hmm..." Zhu Can suddenly raised his voice:
"Doctor Xi, I got a good thing recently. Shall we go upstairs and take a look?"
