Special Assistant Wu rushed forward, attempting to lift the unconscious Si Yehan. Gu Wan turned and was about to rush out of the room, but was stopped at the door by her mother, Nangong Xuan.

"Where are you going?" Nangong Xuan asked coldly, with no expression on her well-maintained face.

"Mom, Ye Han fainted! I have to go and see!" Gu Wan tried to walk around her mother, but was grabbed by the wrist.

"Let him be." Nangong Xuan's voice was like ice. "No one in the Si family is a good person. Don't forget, the Si and Mu families are the culprits who killed your grandfather!"

Gu Wan burst into tears: "But Ye Han..."

"What about him? He's hiding the account book because he's guilty!" Nangong Xuan said firmly, "If you go down now, are you going to make an enemy of the Nangong family?"

Gu Wan took out her phone to ask about Si Yehan's current situation, but her mother snatched it away the moment she connected.

"You good-for-nothing! You better reflect on yourself right here and don't even think about going anywhere!" Then he rushed out the door.

Gu Wan struggled, but heard the sound of a car starting up downstairs. She rushed to the window and saw the taillights of the Cullinan disappear in the rain.

At that moment, she felt as if her heart had been taken away. Her legs gave way and she knelt on the ground, unable to control her tears any longer.

Nian Nian was woken up. Although she didn't know what happened, she saw her mother crying sadly. She immediately ran over and snuggled into her mother's arms, tearfully wiping her mother's tears, "Mom, don't cry... Mom, don't cry..."

Nangong Xuan outside the door turned a blind eye to this, but a barely visible smile appeared at the corner of her mouth.

For the next three days, Si Yehan came every day. Gu Wan could see his pale face and obvious illness from the window, but he stubbornly stood there waiting. And each time, Nangong Xuan would find various excuses to lock her in the room.

On the morning of the fourth day, Gu Wan sneaked into the garden while her mother wasn't paying attention. She hid behind the bushes and watched Si Yehan's car appear outside the gate on time.

He stumbled slightly when he got out of the car, but he quickly regained his balance. Gu Wan's heart clenched in knots, and she almost rushed out when she heard her mother's voice behind her.

“Nangong Wan!”

Gu Wan froze in place. Nangong Xuan strode over and grabbed her arm: "Go back to the house!"

"Mom! Please, let me go out and see him, I just want to say a few words to him..."

"What?" Nangong Xuan sneered, "Ask him why he concealed the account book? Ask him why the account book shows that the Simu and Mu families were the murderers of your grandfather?"

Gu Wan was dragged back to her room, the door locked from the outside. She could only lie on the windowsill, watching Si Yehan wait outside until dusk, then leave in disappointment.

This went on for a week. Every day, Gu Wan felt as if a part of herself had died with Si Yehan's departure. Until the eighth day, Si Yehan didn't show up.

Gu Wan's heart sank. She kept asking the housekeeper for her phone, hoping to call Si Yehan, but was always refused. It wasn't until dinner time that Nangong Xuan gracefully entered her room, clutching a gold-stamped invitation.

"Don't wait." Nangong Xuan threw the invitation on the bed. "Your Si Yehan is getting engaged to Mu Rui."

Gu Wan felt like her world was collapsing in an instant. Trembling, she opened the invitation. Si Yehan and Mu Rui's names were clearly printed on it, and the date was three days later.

"Impossible..." she murmured, tears falling on the invitation.

"Why not?" Nangong Xuan sneered, "The Si family and the Mu family have always been in the same boat. Now that the account book incident has been exposed, of course they have to stick together for warmth."

Gu Wan's vision blurred. She thought of Si Yehan's figure in the rain, and their past. Had he given up just like that?

"Forget about that man." Nangong Xuan stroked her daughter's hair, her voice suddenly gentle, "What Mom chose for you is the best."

Gu Wan didn't answer. She just sat quietly by the window, watching the night fall, watching everything she had pursued for so many years shatter before her eyes like bubbles.

Meanwhile, in the Si family villa, Si Yehan lay unconscious in bed, feverish and nauseous. Special Assistant Wu paced anxiously around the room. The doctor had just left, warning that if this continued, his life might be in danger.

"Mr. Si kept calling Madam's name..." the doctor whispered.

Special Assistant Wu clenched his fists, took out his phone with determination, and dialed Gu Wan's number. However, on the other end of the line, Nangong Xuan looked at the flashing caller ID and pressed the reject button without hesitation.

When Si Yehan opened his eyes, the glaring sunlight forced him to raise his hand to shield his eyes. His head was splitting, his throat dry as if it had been burned. He tried to move his fingers, but found that even this simple movement drained all his strength.

"Awake?" Old Mrs. Si's voice came from the bedside, with unquestionable majesty.

Si Yehan turned his head with difficulty and saw his grandmother sitting upright in an armchair, dressed in a dark green cheongsam, her silver hair meticulously tied back. She was fiddling with a string of Buddhist beads, her eyes sharp as a knife.

"What's wrong with me?" Si Yehan's voice was so hoarse that it was almost inaudible.

"You had a high fever for three days and almost burned your brain out." Old Madam Si snorted coldly, "For Gu Wan, I think you're even willing to give up your life!"

Si Yehan closed his eyes, memories flooding back... He sat up abruptly, feeling dizzy.

"Don't worry." Mrs. Si signaled the bodyguard behind her to come forward and support him. "Today is your engagement day with Murray. You can't show up like this."

"What?" Si Yehan's pupils suddenly shrank. "Grandma, you know this is useless. I won't marry Mu Rui."

"I know." Old Mrs. Si stood up slowly and looked down at him.

"You still do this even though you know this?" Si Yehan struggled to get out of bed, but two bodyguards held him down by the shoulders.

Mrs. Si leaned over and whispered in his ear, "Don't you want to know what's written on that page of the account book?"

Si Yehan's body stiffened. "What do you mean?"

"As expected of my grandson, he's quick to grasp things." Old Madam Si straightened up, a satisfied smile on her face. "Wanwan is the only grandson-in-law I've chosen as my wife. For Wanwan and Nian Nian, you should be willing to put yourself aside a bit. This is just a delaying tactic to let Mu Rui down."

Si Yehan's eyes shifted from anger to deep thought. He remembered Gu Wan's gentle smile, his daughter's soft, sweet "Dad," and the conspiracy from twenty years ago. He took a deep breath and nodded.

"Very good." Old Madam Si clapped her hands. "Someone, help the young master change his clothes. The engagement party will start in an hour."

Meanwhile, in the innermost bedroom on the second floor of the Nangong Mansion, Gu Wan was pacing anxiously. Ever since she tried to take Nian Nian away from here three days ago, her mother, Nangong Xuan, had been watching her even more closely.

"Mom, I want to go home... I miss Dad." Six-year-old Nian Nian said timidly while holding the rabbit doll given by her father.

Gu Wan squatted down and kissed her daughter's forehead: "Wait a little longer, Mom will definitely take you home."

At this moment, the TV in the room suddenly turned on automatically, playing the live broadcast of Si Yehan and Mu Rui's engagement ceremony.
