Chapter 6 Kill the Sniper
Outside the north gate, the Japanese army was constantly shouting through their loudspeakers, and their distorted Chinese accents were sickening to listen to.
Rosen wanted to go out first, but Yangguai stopped him. He then crawled forward quietly and took off the helmet of a dead Kuomintang soldier and put it on his head.
Duanwu, Lao Suanpan and Lao Tietou stayed at the back and looked at Rosen in silence.
They could clearly feel that the former deserter in front of them was very different from them. He was as sharp as a bayonet drawn from its sheath, making them dare not look directly at him.
After a while, Yangguai climbed back and said, "It's dangerous. We are too close to the Japanese. They are very accurate in shooting. When we were defending Yunzaobang last month, all the people we carried down were hit by bullets."
He pointed to his forehead and said, "Two of you go out and finish the work carefully. The little kid, don't go. Pick one of you two to go out."
Yangguai pointed at Lao Suanpan and Lao Tietou and climbed out first.
Lao Suanpan started to play tricks, and Lao Tietou was not a fool either, so the two argued about who should go out, but Duanwu went out with a shovel.
Rosen didn't even bother to look at the two losers, and went out with Duanwu carrying his gun.
Building fortifications is not difficult, but the difficult part is working under the noses of the Japanese soldiers, especially when there are snipers among them, which makes it even more dangerous.
Rosen found a relatively secluded and comfortable place to lie down, then released an internal vision and aimed his gun forward.
Suddenly, a bright searchlight beam swept over. Fortunately, Rosen lowered his head in time, otherwise he would have been discovered, and what might be waiting for him were bullets or even a grenade launcher.
"Don't move until I knock down the searchlight." Rosen whispered.
"Rosen, you'd better be careful. If we are targeted by the Japanese soldiers, it doesn't matter if we can't repair the fortifications, but we are afraid of you..." Yangguai didn't finish his words, but his worry was obvious.
"Don't worry, I know what's going on." Rosen said softly but firmly, "We are in the open while the devils are in the dark. It's too unfair. I can only make them come over and get beaten if I destroy their eyes."
"Boom."
Before he finished speaking, Rosen, who had been aiming for more than 30 seconds, pulled the trigger.
The searchlight's beam of light had just turned to another place when it suddenly shattered, followed by the Japs' scolding and a series of machine gun fire.
But for Rosen, this had no effect. He waited patiently, releasing his inner vision every three to five seconds.
Rosen released the inner vision so frequently just to upgrade it as soon as possible. In the current environment, the inner vision was very useful, but the detection range of 50 meters was too small.
The gunfire gradually stopped after a while, and some Japanese engineers came out to repair the searchlight. Their figures were very clear under the illumination of the flashlight.
Rosen had been aiming for a long time, so when he fired again, at the moment the bullet was fired, he swiftly rolled over and rolled behind a sandbag that had a hole in it.
"Boom."
The next moment, gunshots were heard from the opposite side, and a bullet hit the place where Rosen had just been.
If he hadn't run, he would most likely be dead.
"Be careful." Yangguai said in a low voice while holding the shovel.
"They will definitely be finished, I said." Rosen said nonchalantly: "You can rest for a while. Anyway, the night is still long, there is no rush."
"Hehe, brother, you are really brave. I admire you." Yangguai said with a smile, took out a cigarette, and sniffed it under his nose without daring to smoke.
Rosen aimed while continuously releasing his inner vision. After half an hour, he finally received the prompt information he wanted.
"Your skill: Inner Vision Upgrade, currently LV2, lasts 30 seconds, enemy defense -65, radius 100 meters, mana cost 5 points."
"Because you frequently use Inner Vision, as practice makes perfect, you have acquired a derivative skill: Low-light Vision. It is currently at Level 1. In low-light environments such as heavy rain, haze, and darkness, the impact you receive is reduced by 66%, and your field of vision is increased by an additional 30%."
The next moment, Rosen looked ahead again, and suddenly felt as if most of the layers of darkness had been peeled off. Although it could not be said to be the same as daytime, at least he could see it almost exactly.
Especially when he released the inner vision, his field of vision became wider, and the straight-line distance reached about 130 meters. Obviously, the low-light vision also added to the inner vision.
Unfortunately, Rosen only saw a few ordinary Japanese soldiers and did not discover the extremely well-hidden Japanese sniper.
This immediately made Rosen lose the joy of upgrading his skills, and he knew very well that if he didn't kill the Japanese sniper, Yangguai and Duanwu would be working under the nose of the god of death, and they would lose their lives if they were not careful.
"Yangguai, do me a favor." Rosen said.
"What's the matter?" Yangguai asked.
Rosen threw the revolver to him and said, "Use the shovel to push your helmet to the side and fire two shots. Help me lure out the Japanese sniper. I have to kill him."
"Okay." Yangguai agreed readily, took off his helmet, put it on the shovel handle, and slowly raised it up. When he was a little bit exposed from behind the sandbag, he raised the Mauser pistol in his hand and fired a few shots.
"Bang." A gunshot was heard in the distance, and the helmet was hit directly and flew off the shovel handle.
"I found you." Rosen was delighted and fired a shot at the muzzle flame that suddenly lit up in the darkness.
Before this, Rosen had been aiming for three or four minutes. With an additional +10% hit rate every three seconds, his hit rate was already so high that he could hit the target with his eyes closed.
This is indeed the case. As soon as the gunshot was heard, screams were heard from the other side.
"You killed a Japanese sniper from a distance, merit value +30."
"Basic ranged combat proficiency +50 points, aiming proficiency +62 points."
"Your basic ranged combat upgrade, currently LV4: 60 out of shots within meters will hit the target.
"Your skill: aiming upgrade, currently at level 2, every 3 seconds of aiming, the chance of hitting the target increases by 15%."
Rosen was overjoyed, but followed, "Let's go."
As he said this, he shrank back from his original position, and at the same time did not forget to pull Duanwu, who had no idea what was going on.
As for Yangguai, as a veteran, he slipped away without Rosen's reminder.
"Swoosh, boom."
The next moment, the position where Rosen had just been was hit by a grenade fired from a grenade launcher, and the already dilapidated fortifications were blown even more dilapidated.
However, Rosen and others were safe and sound, with only a few scratches on their skin.
"Rosen, your shooting skills are really amazing." Yangguai gave Rosen a thumbs up and said, "But now it will be even more difficult for us to go out and build fortifications."
"Once I scare them, no one will dare to watch this place." Rosen said as he went out again with the gun in hand and fired five shots in a row.
Rosen was not shooting aimlessly, but every shot was aimed at the Japanese soldiers hiding in the darkness.
They thought they would not be discovered if they hid in the night, but under the dual effects of Rosen's internal vision and low-light vision, they were directly exposed. At a distance of more than 100 meters, although Rosen could not hit nine out of ten shots, he could still hit three or four Japanese with five shots.
The Japanese soldiers' revenge came quickly, still with grenade launchers, but with a hint of frustration.
After Rosen shot the Japanese soldier in the head after using a grenade launcher, no more Japanese soldiers jumped out to seek death.
"Yangguai, you guys can go up now." Rosen said.
"Great!" Yangguai gave him a thumbs up, then lowered his head and quietly went out to repair the fortifications.
Rosen kept holding his gun and aiming at the distance, releasing his internal vision every three or two seconds. This not only increased his proficiency but also made it possible to monitor the enemy situation in real time, killing two birds with one stone.
