Chapter 38: Untrustworthy, Dancing, Charming
As more and more people who had fled rushed back after hearing the news, the celebrations in the town became bigger and more lively.
Following Diana and Rosen, the Allied soldiers who attacked the no-man's land and captured the Allied positions in one fell swoop also arrived one after another, consciously clearing out the remaining enemies who were hiding and maintaining order.
"Sir, we just received an order from London... uh, about you."
A lieutenant came over and said to Rosen, "I ask you to contact them."
"Thank you, I understand." Rosen nodded.
Before they parted, Steve left him his contact information, including his phone number.
Rosen didn’t think it was useful before, but now he realized it was waiting for him here.
After finally finding a phone, Rosen took great pains to connect the call to Steve.
"Indeed, we are in a small town called Feld. We may be able to find them on the map." Rosen said, "We didn't find Ludendorff. What? You said they were only a few miles away from us..."
"Okay, we'll consider it. I also advise you to think carefully. Compromise will not lead to true peace. Otherwise, even if an agreement is signed, it will be easily torn apart in the end. So, let's celebrate. There will be wine and beauties. I don't want to think about the upsetting things anymore. Goodbye."
Rosen hung up the phone with a bang, turned around and looked at Diana, who was looking at him curiously, and said, "There is both good news and bad news. Which one do you want to hear first?"
"Okay." Diana said.
"Steve said that Ludendorff is going to hold a banquet in a castle a few miles away. He has invited many dignitaries to attend. It is said that even the German emperor will show up."
Rosen looked at Diana and said, "If we rush into the castle, kill Ludendorff, and capture the emperor to force him to surrender, do you think it is possible to end this war early?"
"It's very likely." Diana's eyes lit up and she nodded repeatedly, seeming to be very interested in the idea proposed by Rosen. "What about the bad news?"
"Steve said that in order to negotiate peace with Germany smoothly, the top leaders of England don't want us to continue the action, especially not to disrupt the banquet to avoid angering Ludendorff and the German emperor."
Rosen sighed and said, "I guess this peace negotiation is probably because England wants to make peace with Germany privately without obtaining the consent of other Allied Powers."
"Wouldn't that be betraying our allies?" Diana asked.
"Indeed." Rosen nodded and said, "But there's no need to be surprised. Countries like England often do this and are completely untrustworthy."
"Then what should we do?" Diana asked Rosen with her beautiful eyes.
"If this call hadn't happened, what would you have wanted to do next?" Rosen asked instead of answering.
"Keep looking for Ares, defeat him, and end the war as soon as possible." Diana said, "I strongly suspect that Ludendorff is most likely Ares."
"Since you have this idea, we will never give up." Rosen said firmly.
"But...what about the order just now?" Diana asked worriedly.
"Just leave it alone." Rosen said nonchalantly, "Don't forget, our identities are fake. What does England's order have to do with me?"
"Rosen, you are so cunning, but this is really good, haha..." Diana laughed.
As dusk deepened, the celebrations in the small town of Field not only did not stop, but became more and more enthusiastic.
Someone set up tables and chairs on the roadside and put some wine on them for people to enjoy.
Some people played songs on the phonograph, and others danced to the tunes.
Rosen brought two glasses of beer and handed one to Diana. They clinked glasses and slowly savored the beer.
As soon as I took a sip, I felt that it was different from what I had drunk before, and I was even a little uncomfortable with it. But after drinking some, I felt that it tasted better and better.
"Considering that we are going to a party tomorrow, should I learn your dance?" Diana asked with a smile after taking a few sips of beer.
"We don't have to dance when we go to the banquet, but it's totally fine for me to teach you how to dance." Rosen stood up, bowed slightly towards her, and stretched out his hand, saying, "Beautiful lady, can you do me the honor of dancing with me?"
"Of course." Diana put down her wine glass, handed her hand to Rosen, and followed him into the simple dance floor.
Rosen held her in his arms, teaching her how to dance while swaying slowly to the music. He couldn't help but feel distracted as he smelled the fragrance on her body and hair.
However, he soon realized his gaffe, put aside the charming thoughts in his mind, and decided to find a topic to distract himself.
"You know, I've basically never danced with other girls before," Rosen said.
"Really?" Diana glanced at Rosen with a skeptical look.
"What I said is true, and I can prove it with the Lasso of Truth." Rosen said seriously, "China is different from England. Even a hundred years later, most people are not used to dancing like this. For example, my parents have never danced in their lives, and the same is true for others."
"Then how do you know how to dance?" Diana became more and more curious.
"It's funny to say that." Rosen laughed and said, "When I first entered college, I didn't know anything. I was overwhelmed by the number of clubs recruiting new members."
"Just then, a girl from a dance club came to recruit people and said that learning ballroom dancing was very important for future work, so I joined the club without thinking, paid some money, and started learning."
"But later I realized that it was not useful at all, at least not in general situations. So far, I have only danced with my former dancing classmates, and you are the second one."
Rosen looked at Diana and said, "To be honest, it's my honor to dance with you."
"Is the lady who invited you to join the club pretty?" Diana asked with a smile on her face and a soft voice.
"Of course I'm not as pretty as you." Rosen shook his head and said, "Even less charming than you. After knowing you, my life will become extremely difficult."
"Why?" Diana asked.
"Because your beautiful radiance will completely illuminate my sky, and will completely obscure the brilliance of other women."
Rosen pretended to be depressed and said, "When I can no longer see you in the future, I will miss you forever. I am afraid that I will never find a life partner again."
Diana probably had never heard such words before, and for a moment she forgot to dance.
She stared at Rosen blankly, as if stars were twinkling in her eyes, and a blush appeared on her beautiful and flawless face.
"Are you telling the truth?" Diana asked, looking at Rosen.
Rosen stared into her beautiful eyes, said nothing, then lowered his head and kissed her.
Diana subconsciously wanted to dodge but in the end she didn't move.
As the night deepens, snowflakes fall from the sky and melodious singing makes the night even more beautiful and romantic.
