Chapter 430: The Dragon in the Hair and the Uninvited Guest
As dusk deepened, the lights of Inazuma Castle gradually lit up, transforming Feiyun Slope into a flowing tapestry. Lin Huan strolled slowly along the bluestone path, the imposing presence of the castle tower diluted by the evening breeze into a distant memory. The most palpable feeling at this moment was the subtle weight against his temples—Tevarin curled himself into a perfectly defined arc, his crystal scales shimmering in the light, a faint blue-green glow, like a truly ingenious hair ornament.
Just as she turned the corner, she heard Paimeng's excited voice coming from the front: "Look! It's Huanhuan! We are just going to look for-"
The words stopped abruptly.
Ying stood by the stone lantern outside the teahouse, her amethyst eyes slightly wide. Her gaze first fell on the emerald figure beside Lin Huan, then slowly moved upward, resting on the "hair ornament." The usually composed traveler showed a rare look of surprise, her fingertips unconsciously stroking the edgeless sword at her waist.
"Wendy?! And that's..." Paimon suddenly stopped flying, pointed his little finger at Lin Huan's temples, and his voice suddenly rose: "Tete Tevarin?! Why did Tevarin become so small and still stick to Huan Huan's hair?!"
Just then, the sliding door of the tea room clattered open. Xingqiu emerged, clutching his newly acquired tea set, his emerald-blue robe fluttering in the evening breeze. Seeing the gathering, a smile played in his eyes. "Just in time, I just got some excellent Jade Dew..." His words trailed off, his gaze flickering past Wendy, pausing slightly as it rested on Lin Huan's temples.
There was a subtle silence in the air.
Tevarin moved his wings nervously under the watchful eyes of the crowd, his scales rustling softly. He wrapped his tail around a lock of Lin Huan's hair, as if asking for help, and hid his head deep within the bun, revealing only his tearful lapis lazuli eyes.
"Oh my—" Wendy took a half step forward at the right moment, his emerald cloak fluttering like a lotus leaf in the evening breeze. He smiled brightly and opened his arms, as if welcoming a long-lost friend. "Isn't this our dear Honor Knight and little Paimon? What a coincidence!"
Paimon spun around in the air, stamping his feet. "That's not the point! The point is why Tevarin..."
"This is Mr. Wendy, the famous bard from Mondstadt," Lin Huan continued softly, her fingertips gently brushing against his temples. Tevarin immediately huddled down even more in understanding. She turned to Xingqiu, her tone as natural as if she were describing the weather. "I ran into him while strolling by the sea, and invited him to come and experience Inazuma's tea ceremony."
Xingqiu's gaze lingered for a moment on the Sky Harp at Wendy's waist, then swept across the unusual shade of blue in Lin Huan's hair. The young man's lips curved into a knowing smile, and he bowed obediently. "I've long heard of Mondstadt's poetry and wine scene. To be able to witness the poet's presence today is truly worthy of his reputation."
"This must be Mr. Zhenyu, the author of 'The Record of the Swordsman'?" Wendy's eyes lit up, and she shook Xingqiu's hand affectionately. "When I was reading this masterpiece in Mond, I was thinking that an author who could write such a chivalrous story must be a man of noble character..."
Paimon watched this smooth exchange of flattery, her voice spinning in the air with anxiety. She flew to Ying's side and said in a low voice, "Do they think we're blind? Tevarin clearly..."
Ying shook her head slightly, a hint of a smile flickering across her eyes. She took a half step forward and nodded slightly to Wendy. "It's always a delight to meet an old friend in a foreign land." Her gaze flickered across Lin Huan's temples. "It seems the poet has found a unique creative inspiration."
Upon hearing this, Tevarin quietly poked out half of his head, his dragon eyes filled with pleading, "Just cooperate with me in acting."
"That's right!" Wendy clapped his hands and chuckled, casually plucking the strings of the piano, and a few clear notes flowed out. "The scenery of Inazuma gives me a lot of inspiration, especially those glowing... uh, shells on the beach?" He blinked at Lin Huan, who responded with a helpless smile.
Xingqiu raised the teapot in his hand at the perfect moment. "In that case, why don't we have some fresh tea together? I've just acquired some Jade Dew tea, and it pairs perfectly with Mond's poetry." He turned and led the way, his robes fluttering as he murmured, "'A guest from afar has left me two carp'—it seems today is a double celebration."
Paimon watched the three men's backs in tacit agreement, her feet stomping in anger. She flew over to Ying, grabbed her cloak, and protested softly, "Why are they all like this? Tevarin was clearly..."
"Paimon," Ying interrupted softly, gathering a tiny wisp of wind elemental energy at her fingertips. The wind whipped through Lin Huan's hair, gently twitching Tevarin's dragon whiskers. The little creature narrowed his eyes in comfort, purring barely audibly.
"Look," Ying raised the corners of her lips slightly, "some truths don't necessarily need to be revealed."
Warm light streamed through the window panes, stretching the figures of the people on the stone steps. Wendy was excitedly describing Mondstadt's Windblume Festival to Xingqiu. Lin Huan walked quietly behind, the "hair ornaments" on her temples gleaming softly in the light. When her hair rustled in the evening breeze, Tevarin would quietly reach out his claws to steady himself, his crystal scales brushing against her earlobes, bringing a cool touch.
Paimon watched this scene and finally gave up with a long sigh. "Okay, okay...so now all the poets' dragons will be shrunk down and used as jewelry, right?" She floated over to Lin Huan and observed him curiously. "Isn't it tired lying there like this?"
Tevarin immediately raised his dragon pupils alertly and bared his teeth at Paimon - although in his miniature form, this action only looked particularly cute and naive.
"Be gentle." Lin Huan held up his temples, his fingertips gently stroking the dragon's wings. "It's a little shy."
Wendy turned around and smiled, "Don't worry, we Tewalin are the most grateful. He must be so close to Miss Huanhuan because he is thinking of her previous care for him." He spoke meaningfully, and his fingertips casually plucked the strings. The melody that flowed out was faintly in line with the frequency of Tewalin's breathing.
Xingqiu poured tea from the pot, his understanding smile blurred by the mist. As he pushed the teacup toward Wendy, the celadon clattered against the wooden table, startling Tevarin with a sudden shudder, his dragon tail unconsciously entwining itself around Lin Huan's hairpin.
"Be careful," Lin Huan whispered, tilting her head, her voice so soft that only the little dragon beside her temples could hear. Tevarin rubbed his head against her fingertips in grievance, and the scales rubbed against his skin, bringing a slight itch.
Ying watched the pantomime in silence, then suddenly spoke softly, "In Mondstadt's legend, the wind dragon guarded the Thousand Wind Temple. Unexpectedly, in Inazuma, it chose a more...unique way of guarding."
Wendy raised his glass in greeting, the aroma of cider wafting from the jug that had appeared out of nowhere. "Everything has its own nature, and the wind will find the most suitable form." He raised his glass towards Lin Huan's temples. "For example, right now, isn't it a unique landscape?"
Paimon finally gave up his hesitation and curiously leaned in to observe: "So is it Huanhuan's hair accessory or Wendy's pet now?"
This question made Tevarin swung his tail in dissatisfaction, and the sound of scales colliding made a crisp sound. He burrowed deeper into the bun in anger, leaving only a section of the dragon's tail outside, swaying gently with Lin Huan's movements.
As dusk deepened, the aroma of tea and wine mingled in the courtyard. As Xingqiu began to recount the latest chivalrous tales from Liyue Harbor, Tevarin had already relaxed into a comfortable position, his dragon pupils shimmering with sleepiness in the warm light. For a moment, he even unconsciously nuzzled his head against Lin Huan's temple, as if searching for a comfortable spot.
Wendy's piano music had grown softer at some point, like a mother's lullaby. He winked at Lin Huan, the notes flowing from his fingertips gently enveloping the dozing dragon, shielding it from the clamor of the world.
"It seems..." Xingqiu took a sip of tea, looking at the blue hair on Lin Huan's temples, a smile spreading across his face. "Some fate is more wonderful than we imagine."
Ying lowered her head and gently stroked the rock flower on her chest, the moonlight shining on the corners of her smiling lips. Paimon finally gave up questioning and concentrated on counting the spots of light flowing on Tevarin's scales.
The night cherry blossoms fluttered like snow, falling on Wendy's strings, in Xingqiu's teacup, on Ying's shoulders, and in Lin Huan's hair - there, a miniature version of the East Wind Dragon was sleeping peacefully, as if it had found the home it had been waiting for for a thousand years.
