My daily life in Teyvat as a demon
Chapter 13: A Story from Ancient Liyue
This is a story about ancient Liyue.
The boy's name is Xiao Yu, everyone calls him Xiaoyu, and he lives in Guiliji.
The girl's name is Ye He and she lives in Liyue.
At that time, there were still many people living in Guiliji, and Liyue and Guiliji often had exchanges.
People between two places sometimes communicate through letters.
The messenger only delivered the letter once a month, because at that time, there were often monsters passing through the land, which was dangerous. The messenger usually set out with the soldiers who were exchanging supplies.
Of course, if you can afford it, it is possible to ask a courier to send an expedited letter. But whether it can be delivered depends on luck.
Speaking of Xiao Yu, he has a tragic life and is an orphan.
His family originally consisted of three people and lived happily together. They did not live in Guiliji before, but in a small tribe. Later, the tribe was invaded by monsters, so they decided to move to Guiliji.
Unfortunately, accidents happen all the time. During the migration, they encountered many monsters. The tribe was torn apart and the people dispersed. Xiao Yu's parents fought to protect him and handed him over to his uncle before they died.
His uncle held him in his arms, was injured, and ran desperately. Finally, before he ran out of strength, he was found by the patrolling troops near Guiliji.
And that's how he survived.
After witnessing the tragic death of his parents, Xiao Yu became withdrawn and as a result, few children were willing to play with him.
Xiao Yu didn't care. He worked hard every day and learned martial arts from a master.
He just wanted to kill monsters.
This made his uncle a little worried, fearing that he might have mental problems.
By the way, because he had a child to take care of and the salary of a postman was relatively high, my uncle became a postman, which had both risks and benefits.
During the letter delivery process, he heard that some people would make pen pals, so he suggested that Xiao Yu write a letter and make a pen pal. As for who to give the letter to, just throw the letter to a crowded place in Liyue, whoever can pick it up and who is willing to write back will be the pen pal.
Of course, since throwing letters on the ground was considered littering, his uncle felt embarrassed, so after throwing the letters away, he went to clean the streets in Liyue and would not leave until he saw the letters being picked up or stepped on.
Xiao Yu was unwilling at first. In his opinion, this kind of friendship maintained only by a piece of paper was meaningless, and he had never made any friends.
However, since my uncle was so looking forward to it, Xiao Yu wrote the letter, but he only wrote his address and the reason for writing: both parents have passed away, and my uncle wants me to make a pen pal with him. If you are willing, please reply.
Then it was gone.
I originally thought that no one would be willing to reply, but after sending it several times, someone actually replied!
The person who wrote this time was Ye He mentioned at the beginning. She was a warm and cheerful girl. When she saw the letter by chance, her uncle who was not far away saw it and hurried forward to explain the origin of the letter, fearing that she would be sent to the lost and found.
Of course, Xiao Yu's uncle did not force Ye He to reply. He only said that if Ye He was willing to reply, she could reply, but if not, forget it.
After returning home, Ye He read the letter and found it interesting. She also felt that Xiao Yu's life experience was really pitiful, so she wrote a reply.
"Hello, my name is Ye He. I found your letter, and we can be considered friends now.
I heard your uncle introduce you to me, and I know you don't like making friends, but is it okay if we are just pen pals on paper?"
The letter was not long, but it was enough. She was the first one who was willing to reply.
After reading those beautiful handwritings, Xiao Yu felt as if a string in his heart was touched. Under his uncle's expectant gaze, he wrote back.
This letter carries the thoughts of both sides.
For the first time, Xiao Yu had someone to confide in other than his uncle.
Xiao Yu wrote a letter once a month, and during that month, he treated the letter as a small diary. He would write down the day when he did not have enough food to eat, the day when his exercise was too hard, and the day when the big black dog next door gave birth to puppies.
Ye He was not bored by Xiao Yu's long letter, but rather found it quite interesting. She could see that due to the lack of communication, Xiao Yu was just trying to write down everything he wanted to say, and she thought it was really clumsy and cute.
Xiao Yu was grateful for Ye He's tolerance. She would always reply to his long letters seriously. Hearing that she liked glass lilies, he would go to collect wild lilies, make dried flowers, and send them to her; she had never been to Guiliji and was curious about what Guiliji looked like, so he practiced painting for a month or two and drew what Guiliji looked like. He also wrote in the letter: "I am ashamed. I don't have any strengths. This painting is something I just learned. It's not very good. I will practice hard and draw a better one for you later."
Several years passed. During these years, he was fascinated by her fiery passion, and she was moved by his thoughtfulness and consideration. Despite the mountains and rivers between them, their hearts quickly grew closer.
Until Xiao Yu's uncle died.
That day, Xiao Yu's uncle was sending letters with the soldiers. His nephew was having a good time chatting with his pen pal, and he was happy too. His nephew had been smiling more often recently and was not so withdrawn anymore. He could finally rest assured.
Then, the monsters suddenly attacked and the soldiers could not resist. Xiao Yu's uncle was seriously injured and dragged his dying body to Liyue.
Just like before, but this time, he couldn't hold on.
Ye He was the first to receive the news, and she was devastated. For several years, her uncle had delivered letters regardless of weather conditions, and she had always been close to this uncle who loved his nephew deeply. Now that he was dead, how should she tell him?
Finally, she wrote back and told Xiao Yu the bad news.
In fact, before waiting for Ye He's letter, Xiao Yu also received the news. Dozens of people were attacked by monsters and most of them died. How could he not know?
Ye He's reply a month later confirmed the news and completely destroyed her uncle's hope of recuperating in Liyue.
Xiao Yu did not reply immediately and burst into tears at home.
A few days later, Xiao Yu wrote a letter saying that he was going to join the army.
“Ms. Ye He, I have decided to join the army.
I planned to join the army as early as the day my parents passed away. Life and death have no meaning to me anymore, but my uncle has always stopped me. Now I have you to worry about me.
I like you, Miss Ye He. Although we have never met, I am fascinated by your enthusiasm and tenderness. My biggest regret is that I have never met you and painted a picture for you. You must be very beautiful, right?
Although I can't paint for you, I can give you my self-portrait.
I'm sorry to say that I never gave it to you because I was afraid you would be disappointed after seeing my self-portrait. Now I don't know whether I will live or die, but I still hope you can know what I look like.
I will be going to the battle with the army soon, don't worry, I hope you are well."
That's basically it. After Xiao Yu finished writing, his nose felt sore and he almost couldn't hold it back.
You picked up the letter and we got in touch. Now that I am about to join the army, I am afraid of death.
Is it a good thing or a bad thing for me that you picked up the letter?
Xiao Yu sighed, handed the letter to another messenger, and resolutely joined the army.
Ye He received the letter and cried. The words in the letter were engraved in her heart and she would dream about them at night.
She carefully kept all of Xiao Yu's letters and hung Xiao Yu's portrait on the wall of her boudoir. She would stare at the portrait every day and pray silently for his safety.
Whenever her friends come to her room and see the portrait, she always says, "This is my fiancé. Isn't he handsome?"
Another year passed and the two finally met.
The first and last time we met.
That day she was strolling on the street and saw a bustling crowd in front of her. She was curious and went forward.
"These are soldiers who have been badly wounded."
Her heart skipped a beat and she had a bad feeling.
She looked carefully at everyone's face, and finally found the one that haunted her, and burst into tears.
He looked more touching than the portrait, but one of his legs was broken and there was a big bloody hole in his stomach, so he couldn't survive.
Ye He pushed aside the others like a madman and came close to Xiao Yu crying.
"Xiao Yu! You bastard, why are you so badly injured!"
Xiao Yu forced himself to open his eyes, stunned, "Are you Ye He?"
His only friend in Liyue is Ye He, it can only be her.
Ye He nodded, and her tears dripped onto Xiao Yu's blood-stained clothes.
"You are so beautiful, even more beautiful than I thought. Am I looking okay? I hope I don't disappoint you?" Xiao Yu's face was pale, but he still forced a smile.
Ye He trembled and shook her head.
"That's good. I'm so sorry that you saw me in such an embarrassing state. Actually...well, I wanted to marry you."
"Then you must survive!"
"It's difficult..." Xiao Yu shook his head, "Ahem... Ye He, Xiao Yu, rain and lotus go together so well. Tell me, why am I going to die?"
Ye He was already crying uncontrollably.
"The families of fallen soldiers will receive preferential treatment. I have no family left. If you don't mind, I'll give you this preferential treatment..." After saying this, Xiao Yu tremblingly took out the suicide note he had prepared long ago and handed it to Ye He. Before Ye He could say anything, Xiao Yu was pushed away for treatment.
No miracle happens.
Before he died, Xiao Yu's last thought was: "Ye He, I really don't regret becoming your pen pal. I wonder if you regret meeting me?"
Ye He never married and worked in military logistics. Later, she was killed in battle because she did not have time to retreat while trying to save others.
I don’t know where the love comes from, but it is deep and lasting. I hope you all cherish the people around you.
