Traveling through 70's wine

Chapter 3 Return to the Village

Wen Qing put on her clothes, took a towel and went to the bathroom to wash her face. She had a bandage wrapped around her head so she didn't have to comb her hair.

After getting the medicine, which cost a total of one and a half yuan, she and Wu Qing walked out of the commune hospital.

Wen Qing stood at the entrance of the clinic and looked around. There were low, gray earthen houses all around. The road in front of the entrance was a two-lane road paved with stone slabs, about three or four meters wide. There was a three-story building two hundred meters away.

"That's the commune." Wu Qing looked in the direction Wen Qing was looking.

"Let's go to the town entrance and see if there are any oxcarts going to Xiangyang Village?"

"Ok."

The two walked towards the town entrance.

When they arrived at the town entrance, they did not see the ox cart from Xiangyang Village, nor did they see any familiar villagers.

I asked the people squatting and chatting under the tree, and found out that there was a oxcart going to another village, Qingshan Village, which had to pass by Xiangyang Village. However, after getting off the car, I had to walk for a while before getting home.

After waiting for about half an hour, people from Qingshan Village arrived one after another. Since it was not a market day, there were not many people on the bus. There was an educated youth who was carrying a large backpack.

Wen and Wu were sitting on the ox cart. The driver shouted "Yo-ho", and the big buffalo pulled the cart steadily and started off.

Wen Qing looked out and saw several low earthen houses all around with roofs made of hay. The fields were planted with wheat, and the wheat ears had begun to turn yellow, drooping their heads and swaying with the wind.

She was guessing what time it was, looking at the crops in the fields. It was probably May or June. The weather was not hot, with blue sky and white clouds. The ox cart was moving slowly, bringing up a breeze that felt very cool on her face. She felt that her head didn't hurt so much anymore.

The oxcart from Qingshan Village stopped at an intersection, and the driver said, "Those going to Xiangyang Village get off here."

Wu Qing jumped off the car and said to the driver, "Thank you, comrade." He gave him ten cents as fare.

Wen Qing followed her along the ridge of the field, saying nothing along the way, until they arrived at Xiangyang Village.

She looked at the wooden houses around her and remembered her own house, which was in a youth cadre center near a canal.

The foundation of the educated youth site was made of stone slabs, and a section of earth bricks was built on top. There were two houses on the east, north and west sides of the courtyard, and a courtyard gate on the south side, which together formed a courtyard. The walls of the upper half of the houses were built with wood, and the roof was made of beams made of whole wood. The roof was covered with straw braids woven from dry grass, which was very dense. A shed was built in front of the house on the east side as a kitchen.

Wen Qing saw Wu Qing take out the key, open the door of a room on the east side, walk in, and find that the room was about 20 square meters. The lights were not on and the light in the room was very dim.

Wu Qing followed in, and seeing Wen Qing standing at the door looking around the room, he said, "I'll live upstairs for the next few days. You're injured, so don't climb the stairs."

Wen Qing just remembered that Wu Qing was her roommate. Usually Wu Qing lived downstairs and she lived in the attic.

Luchun County is remote and poor, and not many educated youth went to the countryside.

There are now six educated youth who have gone to Xiangyang Village, four men and two women, living in three rooms. One room is the main room, which is used as a kitchen by several boys. One room was originally a pigpen and toilet, but now there are no pigs, so it is a men's and women's toilet. One room is still empty, and a shed has been built against the wall next to the house to store firewood.

Houses in rural areas are built with local materials. There is plenty of wood in the mountains, so they just cut it down and build houses.

Xiangyang Village is very close to the mountains. Just across a small river and walking a short distance ahead you will find the forest, and further ahead you will find the mountains.

"No need, I'm basically well now. Thank you, Sister Qingqing, for taking care of me this time." Wen Qing said.

Wu Qing smiled on his dark face and said, "You're welcome. There are only two girls here, so we have to take care of each other. I'm going to work now, you should have a good rest."

Wen Qing said: "I will cook at noon, you come back to eat."

Wu Qing picked up a gray towel from the washstand by the door and walked out.

Wen Qing looked at the room carefully. The first floor was only 20 square meters. The front half of the room was filled with a table, two chairs, and some sundries. There was a window next to the door. The back half of the room was Wu Qing's bed, which also had a window.

The lighting in the house is poor, but it looks very clean.

Wen Qing climbed up to the attic, which was only about 12 or 3 square meters in size and not very high, only about 2 meters. There was a bed. She sat on it and it felt relatively soft. It should be covered with dry straw and a piece of old coarse cloth as a bed sheet. A mosquito net was hung on the bed frame.

There was a window on the south and east walls of the attic. She opened the windows and the attic suddenly became bright.

Against the east wall, there are two wooden boxes that can be stacked together to make a table.

Wen Qing opened the lock on the box. There were some clothes inside. In a cloth bag there was a household registration book, a student ID card, and some banknotes. The household registration book said Wen Qing was born on October 1957, 10.

The place she moved out of was Ezhong City, and the place she moved to was Xiangyang Village, Luchun County. The total amount of banknotes she had was eight yuan and forty cents, which was also her entire fortune. She took out one yuan and forty cents and prepared to return it to Wu Qing.

Another box contained a bag of about 30 kilograms of rice, a bag of 10 kilograms of wheat, and a bag of 50 kilograms of corn, which was all her food rations.

There was also an earthenware jar next to the box, which contained some brown sugar, and several paper bags containing broad beans, mung beans, and peanuts.

Wen Qing didn't find a calendar or a clock in the room.

I can only estimate that it was around 7 o'clock when I came out of the hospital, and it took about an hour on the road, so it should be 8 o'clock now.

Wen Qing lay on the wooden bed and closed her eyes, thinking back to the last time she fought with those people, was shot, and fell off the cliff with the other side's leader. She seemed to feel the mud and sand falling when she fell off the cliff. She reached out to grab the vines, but her hands were rubbed and she couldn't steady herself. Finally, she fell heavily on the pile of rocks at the bottom of the valley, feeling great pain all over her body.

At this moment, Wen Qing felt dizzy, as if she was falling off a cliff again, and had a feeling of weightlessness. She couldn't help but close her eyes. After the dizziness passed, she opened her eyes and found herself in an unfamiliar place.

Did she fall from the attic? Was this a cave? She quickly calmed down. She hadn't found anything loose in the attic just now.

Only then did she realize that she was lying on the grass. The air was fresh. She stood up and walked four or five hundred meters to the left. There was a small hill with a few clumps of bamboo. She walked up the hill and looked around. She saw only grassland within a radius of 1 or 2 kilometers. There was a small river flowing from the right to the left. There was a lake in front of her left. It was not big, about 500 meters wide. It was not clear in the distance, as if blocked by fog.
