Chapter 50 The Troubles Resurface
With the watch, Chang Wei finally knew what time people in this courtyard usually got up.
In July, the sky in Beijing is bright at five o'clock, and at half past five, people from every household have already gone out with buckets to the water station to fetch water.
After a quick wash, Chang Wei went to the toilet and flushed. When he returned to the courtyard, he saw that Old Man Jin had arrived. He greeted him and said, "Mr. Jin, why are you here so early?"
Old Man Jin said cheerfully: "It's cool in the morning, so we can finish our work early and take a break at noon."
Chang Wei nodded, walked around for a while, found a deserted place, took the two barrels of tung oil and said, "Uncle Jin, do you think this will work?"
The tung oil he bought was first refined. Old Man Jin opened the lid of the iron barrel, dipped a little with a wooden stick, lifted it up and looked at the quality, and said, "It's very good, no problem."
Chang Wei was relieved. "Tomorrow the water plant will come to install water pipes in the yard. It will take three or four days to build a water tank and drain the water. Can we install it together?"
"Don't worry, boss. The sink will be ready by the end of today. It will be ready for use in two days."
Chang Wei wrote it down and decided to take some time to come back and talk to the people at the water plant tomorrow at noon.
After chatting for a while, they returned to the house. Everyone in the family had already gotten up. The little girl was too drowsy to open her eyes. When she heard the voice, she fumbled with her hands to find Chang Wei.
Chang Da took her away and brought out a modified police uniform.
She is very deft with her hands. When she was in the Bai family, she made a living by mending clothes for neighbors. After Chang Wei's police uniform has passed through her hands, it fits straight and close to his body, and he looks refreshed.
Yang Min nodded in approval.
Chang Da sighed as always, "My brother is like a clothes rack. He looks good in anything he wears."
Chang Wei was polite and said proudly, "Don't you see whose craftsmanship this is?"
Chang Da just laughed.
It's so comfortable to be back at my parents' home.
The family was eating breakfast at the table, white flour buns with pork head in between. Yang Min no longer complained about such a bad life, mainly because her family members could see her gaining weight.
Especially Chang Da, whose body used to collapse easily after a wind blew, but after eating a few days of full meals, she gained two kilograms of weight.
There is no such thing as losing weight.
Chang Wei talked about the tap water in the outer courtyard, turned his head to see Chang Long picking at the bowl, and reminded her: "Sister, Friday is August 1st, remember to go to the elementary school to get Chang Long's registration form. She must go to school in the fall, and she has been delayed for a year."
“Oh, I remember.”
Chang Long's face looked miserable, she didn't want to go to school at all.
Chang Wei ignored her and continued talking to Chang Da: "Make more food for Mr. Jin and the others at noon, or cook a pot of fish soup with more salt."
"Brother, I know."
"If you're not full, I have some instant noodles under my bed. But remember to put the bowl away after you finish eating, and don't throw it around. I'll bring you some lamb ribs in the evening."
"Where's the mutton?"
"I have already agreed with a Hui Muslim. He has a share."
Chang Da opened her mouth but said nothing. She never had many ideas, so she just listened to whatever her brother said.
Yang Min remained silent.
Her son has grown up and she can no longer pull his ears. She suddenly feels a little melancholy.
The family ate and talked, and Chang Wei suddenly looked in the direction of the middle school with a complicated expression, and sighed, "I guess it's going to start making trouble again."
Yang Min and Chang Da's ears were not as good as Chang Wei's, and they asked in surprise, "What's the matter?"
"He Yushui and Yi Zhonghai are arguing."
The two of them didn't believe it. How could He Yushui, such an honest girl, quarrel with Yi Zhonghai?
Chang Long loved to watch the fun, so she grabbed a steamed bun and ran out of the door. When the little girl heard Aunt Yu Shui arguing, she also hurriedly ran after them on her short legs. She liked this aunt the most, and they would often poke ant nests together when they had nothing to do.
Chang Da saw that Chang Wei didn't move, so she poked him and said, "Why don't you go and take a look quickly, don't let Sister Yushui get wronged."
Chang Wei wanted to say that the other person already had a brother, but then he thought about He Yuzhu's character, so he had no choice but to get up and follow him to the central courtyard.
After all, this is my own fault.
In the middle courtyard, He Yushui was blocking the door of Yi Zhonghai's house, trying very hard to muster up courage and make herself look imposing. In fact, her thin figure only made her look more pitiful.
He Yuzhu just stood in front of his house stupidly.
"Rainwater, what's going on?"
An aunt was confused. She came out of the house, pulled He Yushui's hand and asked in a low voice.
He Yushui didn't want to argue with the old lady. She was a woman without any ideas and she didn't have any bad intentions. Because she was infertile, she lived a cautious life in the orphanage all her life.
She tilted her head and said, "Auntie, I'm looking for an uncle."
Yi Zhonghai buttoned up his clothes, slowly walked to the door and said, "Yushui, what is it that you are so anxious to say so early in the morning?"
He Yushui looked at him with mixed feelings, and mustered up the courage to say, "Uncle, I just wanted to ask, has my father sent any letters back from Baoding in the past seven years?"
Yi Zhonghai was startled, his face darkened and he said, "How would I know if your father sent the letter back?"
He Yushui didn't believe it and whispered, "Don't you really know?"
Yi Zhonghai said in a bad tone: "Huh, He Yushui, is this how you talk to me?"
He Yushui was stopped by the shouting. She was only sixteen years old and lived helplessly in the courtyard. Coming to Yi Zhonghai was the most daring thing she had ever done. After a long pause, she timidly said, "Uncle, I just want to know where all the letters and money my father sent me over the years went?"
Yi Zhonghai snorted coldly with a straight face: "This is your family's business, and you come to ask me?"
He Yushui felt extremely aggrieved and tilted her head back, trying hard not to let her tears flow down.
"Brother, come quickly, Sister Yushui is about to cry."
Chang Long stood at the hall door, jumping and shouting loudly.
Yi Zhonghai was anxious. He didn't want Chang Wei to get involved, so he quickly said to He Yuzhu: "Zhuzi, hurry up and call Yushui back. It's not nice for a girl to yell in the yard so early in the morning."
He Yuzhu was stunned for a moment, hesitating and didn't step forward immediately.
Chang Long didn't know that she was also implied at this moment. She ran over and grabbed He Yushui and said, "Sister Yushui, my brother is here."
He Yushui turned around stupidly following Chang Long's strength, and heard Chang Wei's low voice.
"Don't be afraid."
With just two simple words, the tears that she had been holding back could no longer be stopped. She said nothing, but lowered her head and leaned against Chang Wei's chest, tears dripping down her face.
"Brother, brother, Sister Yushui is really crying."
Chang Long enjoyed watching the fun and shouted at the top of his voice, calling out everyone in the front and back yards.
Chang Wei was most afraid of this kind of scene. He looked up at Yi Zhonghai, who was standing on the steps with a gloomy face, and whispered, "Come on, let's go to the front yard to rest first and tell me what happened."
After saying that, he turned around and went to the front yard with He Yushui.
Yi Zhonghai became anxious and shouted, "Chang Wei, let He Yushui go."
Chang Wei stamped his feet, turned his head and frowned, "Master, stop showing off in front of me."
Yi Zhonghai was really afraid of Chang Wei. Seeing more and more neighbors gathered around, he could only patiently shout to He Yuzhu, "Zhuzi, you two can just explain your brother-sister relationship behind closed doors. There's no need to make a scene in the whole yard."
He Yuzhu didn't say a word from beginning to end, with mixed feelings in his heart.
Chang Wei snorted coldly and said, "I'm afraid it's not a matter between two siblings, right?"
Yi Zhonghai was shocked and said firmly, "Chang Wei, don't interfere in other people's family affairs."
Chang Wei ignored him and took He Yushui to his home in the front yard. When Yang Min saw them come back, she didn't ask the reason. She hugged He Yushui and comforted him for a while, then asked Chang Long to get a bowl for He Yushui to eat.
No matter how important it is, fill your stomach first.
He Yushui looked at the Chang family members busying around and asking her about her well-being, and she couldn't help but throw herself into Yang Min's arms and burst into tears.
