Chapter 231: Zhang Yu's Life

[Cheng Yu, a "werewolf" more ruthless than Jia Xu, the history of the Three Kingdoms]

Influenced by Romance of the Three Kingdoms, many people think that Cheng Yu is a wise but weak civil official, but the Cheng Yu in history was a "wolf man" who was even more ruthless than a ruthless man.

His cruelty is mainly reflected in two aspects: first, he regards human life as worthless, and he is ruthless and decisive no matter whether it is to civilians or himself; second, he has extraordinary decisiveness in assessing the situation.

As we all know, the reason why Cao Cao was able to quickly gain a foothold in the era of warring heroes was inseparable from his ability to easily control the internal affairs of the group.

In addition to the Qiaopei military group represented by the Cao and Xiahou families, the Yingchuan Xun group represented by Xun Yu and Xun You, and the Hebei group represented by Cui Yan after the pacification of Hebei, another force that cannot be ignored is the Yanzhou group.

If the Qiaopei military generals group is Cao Cao's base, then the Yanzhou group is Cao Cao's first base for fighting for the world. Its importance is self-evident, and Cheng Yu is an important representative of the Yanzhou group.

Cheng Yu was from Dong'e, East County, Yanzhou. Before he joined Cao Cao, he was a legendary figure in Yanzhou. After the Yellow Turban Rebellion broke out, the flames of war quickly spread to Dong'e.

The reaction of the Dong'e County Government was very poor. The county magistrate fled immediately, and the county governor Wang Du simply joined the Yellow Turban Army because he could not defeat them. At that time, officials and ordinary people could only flee to the mountains with their elderly and children.

Cheng Yu discovered that after capturing the county town, Wang Du did not defend the city but stationed troops outside the city. He then understood that Wang Du only wanted to take advantage of the situation and had no intention of conquering the city.

So he persuaded everyone to go back to the city together. There was sufficient food and high walls in the city. Then they could find the county magistrate and defend the city together. They would definitely be able to repel Wang Du.

But apart from the local wealthy Xue Fang, the common people were unwilling to follow him. Cheng Yu was so angry that he cursed that "fools cannot discuss important matters", so he sent people to pretend to be bandits, holding up flags on the mountain, and asked Xue Fang to shout "the bandits are coming, follow me to attack the city".

The people who didn't know the truth were so scared that they all rushed into the city. At the same time, Cheng Yu found the county magistrate again. When Wang Du led his troops to attack, Cheng Yu personally led everyone to open the city and attack. As expected, he drove away the bandits and became a famous figure in Yanzhou.

But Cheng Yu was very cautious in choosing a master. He refused to accept the invitations sent by Liu Dai, the governor of Yanzhou, several times. Even when Liu Dai recommended Cheng Yu to be a cavalry commander, he feigned illness and resigned. Everyone thought he was no longer interested in officialdom.

But when Liu Dai died and Cao Cao took control of Yanzhou, Cheng Yu immediately joined Cao Cao's camp. The villagers were puzzled and said to Cheng Yu, "Your contrast is too big, isn't it?"

Cheng Yu just smiled and said nothing. It's a joke that forty years a week can't satisfy Cheng Yu's ambition to conquer the world. Cheng Yu finally ushered in his era.

In 194 AD, Cao Cao marched east to Xuzhou and ordered Cheng Yu and Xun Yu to guard Juancheng. Zhang Miao and Chen Gong, the governors of Chenliu, rebelled and welcomed Lu Bu into Yanzhou. Chen Gong was originally a capable general of Cao Cao's Yanzhou group. Cao Cao's entry into Yanzhou was mainly due to his successful travels and his reputation.

When he turned against the government, all the counties in Yanzhou responded immediately. Within a few days, only Juancheng, Fanxian and Dong'e counties remained in the entire Yanzhou.

The family of Jin Yun, the magistrate of Fan County, which was close to Juancheng, had been captured and held hostage by Lu Bu, and Dong'e was also under siege by Chen Gong. The situation was precarious. Once the three counties fell, Cao Cao would be displaced like Liu Bei, or even lose the chance to dominate the world.

Cheng Yu took action at the critical moment. He first came to Fan County and persuaded the county magistrate Jin Yun with just a few words, saying that he would rather abandon his family and defend Fan County. Then he occupied the strategic Cangjin before Chen Gong arrived in Dong'e, buying time for Dong'e to defend.

Finally, thanks to Cheng Yu's unremitting efforts, the three counties were finally saved. When Cao Cao came back, he immediately took Cheng Yu's hand and said with emotion: "Brother, if it weren't for you, I would be homeless."

However, although he saved the three counties, Cao Cao was still in a situation of little land and lack of food during the battle with Lu Bu. He was attacked everywhere and was almost killed by Lu Bu in the Battle of Xingyang.

Cao Cao felt that his family assets were gone and he ran out of food. He felt that his situation was hopeless and was ready to send his wife and children to Yecheng as hostages and surrender to Yuan Shao. This was the first time Cao Cao had thought of giving up since he started his army, but Cheng Yu refused to give up.

He saw that Cao Cao was just acting impulsively because of a temporary setback, so he tried his best to persuade Cao Cao: "Xu Shu once said that Yuan Shao is not a person who can accomplish great things.

Cheng Yu also thought that although he had the ambition to conquer the world, his mind could not keep up with his ambition and he could not control a great hero like Cao Gong. Besides, don't you have me and Xun Yu by your side?

Don't give up easily. "Cao Cao was moved and ashamed, and finally gritted his teeth and rejected Yuan Shao's invitation. He saved face, but the food for tens of thousands of troops could not be solved by just talking.

As the saying goes, a good cook cannot cook without rice, and Cheng Yu could not get something for nothing. So Cheng Yu turned evil and led his army to the county town of his assistant, and solved the army's food crisis by robbing.

According to the "Wei Jin Shiyu", when Cao Cao attacked Tao, he wanted to seize the county. Three days of rations were mixed with human jerky. In order to raise military rations, he even ate human flesh. But it was with this ruthlessness that Cheng Yu finally helped Cao Cao defeat Lu Bu and regain Yanzhou.

After Yanzhou was stabilized, Cao Cao was able to realize his ambitions. After that, Cheng Yu followed Cao Cao to welcome Emperor Xian to Xu County, worship Yuan Shao, destroy Yuan Tan, and take Jingzhou, and he was successful in everything he did.

Although Cao Cao listened to Cheng Yu's advice during this period, unfortunately, Cao Cao did not adopt Cheng Yu's suggestion to kill Liu Bei to eliminate future troubles, and ultimately created a strong enemy for himself.

However, Cheng Yu did not play the role of a strategist, but a powerful general of the Eastern Han Dynasty who was determined to win every battle.

In 200 AD, on the eve of the Battle of Guandu, Yuan Shao's army was about to attack Yanzhou. However, Cheng Yu only brought 700 soldiers to garrison Juancheng. Cao Cao felt that Cheng Yu's soldiers were too few and wanted to give him another 2000 soldiers.

Cheng Yu knew that Cao Cao needed troops right now, so he rejected Cao Cao's offer so that he could concentrate his forces. Cheng Yu's reason was very simple: "Yuan Shao doesn't care about my current number of troops, but if you send me more troops, Yuan Shao will pay more attention to me. If Yuan Shao really leads a large army to attack, the extra 2000 people will only be cannon fodder."

During the Three Kingdoms period, there were many clever strategies for repelling the enemy by bluffing. Zhao Yun also used the empty camp strategy to scare off Cao's army in the Battle of Hanzhong, but Cheng Yu was the first one who dared to take the risk and gamble with his life.

As Cheng Yu expected, Yuan Shao saw that Cheng Yu had few soldiers and was afraid of a trick, so he really didn't dare to advance. Cao Cao was full of admiration for Cheng Yu's courage and praised Cheng Yu for his courage.

Throughout the Three Kingdoms, there were no more than three people with this title. Two years later, Yuan Shao died of illness, and his son Yuan Shang succeeded him, while Yuan Tan stationed his troops in Liyang.

Cao Cao personally led the army to the north, but Cheng Yu arrived first and recruited thousands of desperate mountain gangs in the local area. He joined Cao Cao in Liyang and defeated Yuan Tan in one fell swoop.

Cheng Yu was appointed General Fenwu and granted the title of Marquis of Anguoting for his meritorious service. Cao Cao loved talents, but he also killed many of them, including the arrogant Ni Heng and Kong Rong, and the persistent Xu You. Later, even Xun Yu, the chief minister who helped him unify the north, could not escape death.

Only Cheng Yu remained strong as he grew older and lived to the ripe old age of 80. This was inseparable from his understanding of human nature and knowing when to advance and retreat.

In 208 AD, after Cao Cao had largely pacified the Central Plains, he said to Cheng Yu with a smile: "If it weren't for you in Yanzhou, how could I, Cao Aman, be where I am today?"

Does this sound familiar? Xu You was beheaded because he kept saying "You, Cao Aman, can never get Jizhou without me."

Cheng Yu immediately understood what he meant and submitted his resignation to Cao, returning his military power and seal. Later, Taiwei Jia Xu also followed Cheng Yu's example and was able to enjoy his old age.

Time soon came to the year 220, which can be called the year of the Three Kingdoms heroes. In this year, many of the Three Kingdoms characters we are familiar with were offline, including Lü Meng and Gan Ning of the Eastern Wu, Huang Zhong and Guan Yu of the Shu Han, and Cao Cao and General Xiahou Dun also died one after another.

Our ruthless Cheng Yu also died soon after Cao Cao's death. After his death, he was posthumously named General of Chariots and Cavalry of Wei by Emperor Wen of Wei, Cao Pi.

Anyone familiar with the history of the Han Dynasty knows that the General of Chariots and Cavalry was a military general, and the most famous General of Chariots and Cavalry during the Three Kingdoms period was Zhang Fei, followed by Cao Ren and Zhang He. This shows that the ruthless Cheng Yu was not a strategist but a general until his death.

[Yuan Tiangang's Tomb, the reason why no one dared to rob it for thousands of years. Historical knowledge Yuan Tiangang]

He is the author of the first wonderful book in China, "Tui Bei Tu", and the originator of Chinese Feng Shui. He is not only an expert in finding dragons and dividing gold, but also a master of astrology.

He accurately predicted that Wu Zetian would seize the Tang Dynasty and calculated the time of its demise. Most of his predictions have come true, and it is said that the last one will come true in 2040.

He is the first Feng Shui master in ancient times, Yuan Tiangang. Yuan Tiangang was born in Chengdu, Yizhou in 573 AD. He was lonely since childhood and began to learn Taoism at an early age, especially good at face reading.

Starting from the Qingming Festival, he traveled to Chang'an and other places in the Central Plains. In Luoyang, he met Du Yan, Wang Gui and Zhang Ting. One night, the four of them stayed in the same room, and Du, Wang and Zhang asked Yuan Tiangang to tell their fortunes for their future.

Yuan Tiangang said to Du Yan, "You will be a scholar of the Lanting Academy, with extensive and comprehensive knowledge, and you will be famous for your writings in the future." He then predicted Wang Gui's fortune and said, "In just ten years, you will be promoted to the fifth rank."

Finally, he said to Zhang Ting, "Looking at your face, it seems that you will be a military officer." Half a year later, Du Yan became a scholar of Tiance as an attendant censor, and Wang Gui was appointed as the Prince's Zhongyun, stationed in the Prince's Eastern Palace.

Zhang Ting was considered the left guard of the five senses because he had protected the prince. The three men were so pious that they verified them one by one. From then on, Yuan Tiangang's reputation spread far and wide.

According to historical records, Yuan Tiangang's most famous legendary act was fortune-telling for Empress Wu Zetian. In that year, Yuan Tiangang set out from Chengdu to Chang'an and passed through Lizhou. Lizhou Governor Wu Shigui had heard of Yuan Tiangang's name for a long time, so he secretly invited him to his private residence.

Wu Shigui was most concerned about whether his wife could give birth to another son, so he asked Yuan Tiangang to read his wife's fortune. Yuan Tiangang said, "Your wife has an extraordinary bone structure, and she will give birth to a son in the future."

He then asked Yuan Tiangang to look at the two sons of Xiang Qisheng, and Yuan Tiangang said: "The two sons will be promoted to the third rank in the future, but they will not be able to do much, and can only protect the family and the business."

Looking at the eldest daughter of the Wu family, who later became Lady Korea, Yuan Tiangang said: "This girl is destined to be noble and should marry a prince, but she will not be a good husband." Finally, he asked the wet nurse to bring a child dressed in men's clothes to Yuan Tiangang to see.

Yuan Tiangang was shocked when he saw the child and said, "This child has dragon and phoenix horns, sun horns and dragon face, which means she is extremely noble. If this child is a girl, she will definitely become an emperor in the future."

History mysteriously verified Yuan Tiangang's predictions, and Yuan Tiangang was called a rare man throughout the ages. The Tui Bei Tu he co-authored with Li Chunfeng was also called a rare book throughout the ages.

Not only was he able to successfully predict Wu Zetian's ascension to the throne, he was also able to accurately predict the fate of others and his own life and death. Even more amazing was that Yuan Tiangang's skill in finding Feng Shui treasured lands had also reached the pinnacle.

According to legend, Wu Zetian ordered Yuan Tiangang and Li Chunfeng to search for a Feng Shui treasure land separately as her burial place after her death. So she asked them to find acupuncture points for her.

After receiving the order, Li Chunfeng traveled eastward in search of the treasure land. One day at noon when the sun was shining brightly, he saw a strange stone mountain emerging from the land of Qinchuan. From south to north, it looked like a young woman sleeping naked under the blue sky and white clouds.

Li Chunfeng was greatly surprised, so he hurried up the mountain, used his shadow to determine the north and south meridians, used broken stones to arrange the eight trigrams, pulled out the hairpin, stuck it into the ground at the intersection of two and three, then went down the mountain and returned to the court to report.

After receiving the order, Yuan Tiangang searched on both sides of the Yellow River, but could not find a place he liked. Later, he came to Guanzhong and went out to observe the sky at midnight. He saw a mountain with purple air rising to the sky, which happened to intersect with the Big Dipper. Yuan Tiangang determined that it was a treasure land.

So he hurried up the mountain, found the right direction, took out a copper coin and put it on the ground, then covered it with loose soil, and then went down the mountain and returned to the court to report.

Afterwards, Wu Zetian sent people to check again. After the ministers came to Liangshan according to the instructions of the two men, they found their respective places, peeled off the loose soil, and were so shocked that they couldn't stand up for a long time. It turned out that Li Chunfeng's hairpin was stuck in the eye of Yuan Tiangang's copper coin.

This is the Qianling Mausoleum. Qianling Mausoleum has gone through thousands of years, and has been hacked by swords in the cold weapon era and bombarded by machine guns and cannons in the hot weapon era. In more than 1200 years, there have been as many as 17 people who have been known to rob Qianling Mausoleum. The largest scale of the robbery was as many as 40 people, and Liangshan, where Qianling Mausoleum is located, was almost dug away by half.

However, Qianling Mausoleum has remained intact to this day. It is also the best-preserved imperial tomb in my country with the richest cultural relics and has not been stolen. It is known as the ninth wonder of the world buried underground.

The next step after finding a tomb for the emperor was to find a place for himself to rest after death. The two agreed to search separately again, just like last time.
