Traveling through time and space: Medical skills travel the world
Chapter 37 Secret Room
"What is this place?" Li Ming looked around, surprise flashing in his eyes, "It looks like a secret library."
"I think this might be an ancient medical library." Chen Fang walked forward and carefully observed the books on the bookshelf. Her fingers gently slid across the covers, feeling an ancient power.
"Look, there are a lot of prescriptions here!" She pointed excitedly at a bookshelf, and Li Ming immediately came over.
"Really! Are these all ancient prescriptions?" Li Ming's eyes lit up, and an expression of irrepressible joy appeared on his face.
"Yes, many of them are herbs I have heard of in the village." Chen Fang opened a yellowed scroll and read the words on it carefully. "It records how to use these herbs to treat common diseases."
"This is amazing! We can take these prescriptions back and help patients in the village." Li Ming said excitedly, his heart full of hope.
"However, we have to be careful with the preservation of these books and not move them at will," Chen Fang reminded. She knew that these ancient books might be very precious.
"I understand." Li Ming nodded, and then noticed that there was a small table in the corner of the room, on which were placed several more exquisite books. He walked over and opened one of them, and found that it contained detailed introductions and usages of various herbs.
"Fang, come and take a look at this!" Li Ming's voice was filled with excitement. "This book contains a detailed description of 'lily' and even mentions that it can cure palpitations!"
"Let me see." Chen Fang walked forward, her eyes wandering over the pages. She read carefully, and was deeply shocked by the magic of ancient medical skills.
"And this, a recipe for 'Coptis chinensis'! It's also very common in the village." Li Ming continued flipping through it, his face full of surprise.
"The prescriptions here are a little different from what we use now, but the principles are the same." Chen Fang pondered, thinking to herself, "If we can combine these prescriptions with modern medicine, we may be able to create a more effective treatment method."
"Do you think we should take all these books away?" Li Ming asked, with anticipation in his eyes.
"I think we should prioritize recording important prescriptions and knowledge." Chen Fang said, picking up a blank scroll from the bookshelf and began to copy down the important content.
"Let me help you." Li Ming also picked up a scroll and began to record. Their hands moved quickly on the ancient paper, fearing that they would miss any details.
"There are some books about acupuncture here." Chen Fang found another bookshelf, and a hint of excitement flashed in her eyes. "This may be a treatment method we have never come across!"
"I've heard of acupuncture, but I've never seen a detailed record of it." Li Ming followed her over and after seeing the books, he couldn't help but sigh, "The ancient medical skills are really profound."
"Yes." Chen Fang flipped open a thick book that described acupuncture points and operation methods in detail. "If we can learn these, maybe we can help more people."
"We need time to study this," Li Ming said seriously, "but I believe this knowledge will definitely bring changes to the village."
"Yes, we must make good use of these valuable materials." Chen Fang nodded firmly and continued to concentrate on copying.
Just then, there was a slight noise coming from the corner of the room. Chen Fang and Li Ming looked at each other, and their hearts tightened.
"Did you hear that?" Li Ming asked in a low voice, the excitement on his face instantly replaced by nervousness.
"I heard it." Chen Fang frowned slightly, and became alert. "We have to be careful, there may be other people coming in here."
"We should hide first." Li Ming looked around, trying to find a hidden place.
"There's a cabinet over there. We can hide in it." Chen Fang pointed to a cabinet against the wall and walked forward quickly.
The two of them squeezed into the closet carefully, holding their breath nervously, and heard the sound of approaching footsteps. Chen Fang's heartbeat accelerated, and countless possible scenarios flashed through her mind.
"Who is it?" A low voice sounded in the room, as if asking something.
"I don't know, but we have to keep quiet." Li Ming said softly, clenching his fists, his heart full of uneasiness.
The footsteps stopped, and the sound of flipping books came from outside the cabinet, as if someone was looking for something. Chen Fang and Li Ming huddled together, holding their breath, afraid to make any sound.
"What if we are discovered?" Li Ming asked in a low voice, his face full of tension.
"I don't know, but we can't act rashly." Chen Fang answered in a low voice, praying secretly in his heart, hoping that the man would leave quickly.
The silence of a few minutes seemed like a century. Finally, the noise outside gradually faded away and the footsteps disappeared at the other end of the room.
"Can we come out now?" Li Ming asked softly, his face full of doubt.
"Wait a moment and make sure it's safe first." Chen Fang said cautiously, still remaining alert.
Finally, the room returned to silence. Chen Fang slowly pushed open the cabinet door, stuck her head out, and heaved a sigh of relief after confirming that there was no one around.
"It looks like we're safe for now," she said softly, but she still felt a little uneasy.
"Let's go ahead and write down these prescriptions as quickly as possible," Li Ming suggested, with a determined gleam in his eyes.
"Okay, we have to hurry up." Chen Fang nodded, returned to the bookshelf and continued her copying work.
"Fang'er, are you really going to take these back to the village?" Li Ming frowned, with a worried look on his face. He was Chen Fang's childhood sweetheart. Although he was naughty and playful at ordinary times, he always looked very serious in front of her.
"Of course! These ancient medical materials are of great help to the patients in our village." Chen Fang's eyes sparkled with anticipation, "I hope to use this knowledge to help more people."
"But do you know what this means? You are facing a conflict between ancient medical techniques and modern lifestyles." Li Ming's voice was low and firm. "If something goes wrong, the consequences will be disastrous."
"I understand your concerns, but I believe I can do it." Chen Fang smiled and said firmly, "I grew up in the village and have seen too many helpless patients. I want to use this knowledge to change their fate."
Li Ming was silent for a while, and finally sighed: "Okay, I support you. But we have to be careful and not let the people in the village know the source of these books."
"Of course, I will be careful." Chen Fang nodded, his eyes once again turned to those ancient books, his heart full of longing.
At this moment, the door of the study was gently pushed open, and a thin, wrinkled old man walked in. It was Uncle Zhang, an old Chinese medicine doctor in the village, and his eyes were full of wisdom and depth.
"Chen Fang, Li Ming, what are you doing here?" Uncle Zhang smiled and walked towards the two of them.
"Uncle Zhang, we are studying ancient medicine." Chen Fang answered immediately, with excitement in his eyes. "Look, there are many theories about traditional Chinese medicine in this book Huangdi Neijing. It's really interesting!"
Uncle Zhang's eyes fell on the book, and his expression became serious: "This book is indeed a classic of Chinese medicine, but you have to be careful with it. Although ancient medical skills have their own unique features, there are also many theories that are not suitable for modern times."
"I know, Mr. Zhang." Chen Fang nodded, "I will combine modern medical knowledge and use it with caution."
"You are young and energetic, I understand your enthusiasm." Uncle Zhang smiled slightly, with a hint of relief in his eyes, "However, learning medical skills is not just about reading books, but more importantly, practical experience. Do you plan to find some patients and conduct field research?"
"I want to visit the homes of the elderly in the village, check on their physical conditions, and try to treat them using ancient medical theories." Chen Fang's eyes were determined, and she already had a plan in mind.
"That's a good idea." Uncle Zhang nodded approvingly, "But remember, a doctor's heart is compassionate, and curing illnesses and saving lives is the most important thing. No matter what you study, the health of the patient should be the top priority."
"I will, Uncle Zhang." Chen Fang's voice was firm and clear.
Li Ming interrupted: "Uncle Zhang, can you teach Fang'er some ancient medical skills? I think with your guidance, she will be more successful."
Uncle Zhang thought for a moment and finally nodded: "Okay, I can teach you some basic acupuncture and massage techniques, but you must continue to learn in practice, and can't just rely on books."
"That's great! Thank you, Uncle Zhang!" Chen Fang said excitedly with a smile on her face.
"However, Fang'er, you must remember that ancient medical skills are sometimes very complicated, and you can't rush for success." Uncle Zhang reminded, "Always maintain a humble attitude during the learning process."
"I will. I will humbly ask questions of every patient." Chen Fang responded seriously.
As the sun gradually sank, the light in the study became softer, and the three of them sat together, discussing the mysteries of ancient medicine. Chen Fang felt extremely fulfilled, as if she was embarking on an unknown but hopeful journey.
"I will go to the village tomorrow to see which elderly people need help." Chen Fang made up her mind, her heart full of anticipation.
"I'll go with you." Li Ming said without hesitation, "No matter what happens, I will be by your side."
"Thank you, Ming." Chen Fang looked at him gratefully, feeling a warm feeling in her heart.
