Chapter 262: My Own Footprints
As soon as Secretary Wang mentioned it, Su Wanwan realized this huge hidden danger.
"Okay, I understand. You go and arrange for the people to deliver the chairs first, and I'll think of a solution."
Carrying her small bag, Su Wanwan walked quickly towards home. On the way, she ran into her mother Zhao Ying who was about to bring her lunch.
After Zhao Ying learned what had just happened, the two of them walked back home together.
"Those people couldn't return the chairs, and now the snow is getting heavier outside. What good will it do you to go there, Wanwan?"
The two had just returned home. Su Wanwan had a simple lunch and was about to go out, but her mother Zhao Ying quickly stopped her.
"Don't worry, mother. I definitely won't be stupid enough to carry it on my back. Don't you trust your own daughter?" Su Wanwan replied to Zhao Ying calmly and wrapped a very long scarf around her neck.
"That's good."
After responding to her mother's request, Su Wanwan immediately went out and walked into the snow.
After leaving Su's house, Su Wanwan walked to the factory as the snow fell heavier and heavier.
Feeling that the snow might not stop any time soon, Su Wanwan walked around the factory gate expressionlessly. Not seeing Xu Yan, she quickly walked towards the cafeteria.
It was not time for lunch yet, but the factory's lunch break was very close. Su Wanwan tried to speed up her pace and quickly went around the small path to the back door of the cafeteria while no one was watching.
Since the people in the cafeteria were in charge of lunch, the kitchen was busy, but the backyard where firewood was stored was empty. Without thinking, Su Wanwan quietly rode a bicycle out of the backyard and took a shortcut to the main road from the village to the town.
After all, Secretary Wang had accidentally found so many high-quality and low-priced chairs from the town's sawmill. It would be a pity if they were destroyed by the sudden heavy snow. What's more, the person responsible for delivering the chairs couldn't transport them. But she had a hiding space, so it was just a matter of running back and forth.
Braving the heavy snow, Su Wanwan silently raised the collar of her thin jacket, trying to make more use of the cotton inside.
Sure enough, just as Secretary Wang had just said at the radio station, not far from leaving the village, the road in front of Su Wanwan was completely covered with snow. The road from the town to the village was already very narrow, barely allowing only one car to pass through, and would be blocked by mud and water during the rainy season. Now, with just this one snowfall, the entire road was already covered in snow. Su Wanwan had to ride her bike while judging the direction by memory.
Fortunately, the general direction remained unchanged. Su Wanwan rode slowly forward according to her memory. She didn't know how long she had been riding until her hands were almost numb from the cold and she lost consciousness. Only then did she finally vaguely see several tricycles in front of her that were left directly in place.
There were several layers of wooden chairs on the tricycle. Although it was snowing heavily and there were strong winds from time to time, the chairs on the tricycle were quite sturdy and were not blown down.
Su Wanwan rode a few more steps forward and noticed that the chairs on the tricycle were tied tightly with several circles of thin ropes, which kept the chairs firmly placed on the tricycle.
After silently getting off the bicycle, Su Wanwan rubbed her hands hurriedly and blew a few breaths into her palms to make her hands warm up a little. Then, she looked around and saw that everything around her was white. The mountains in the distance were covered with snow and were almost invisible. The only things she could recognize were her own footprints, which meant that there was absolutely no way anyone was around.
Relieved, Su Wanwan walked around the tricycles stuck in the snow a few times and counted the number of chairs on the tricycles. When she found that it was exactly the number promised by Secretary Wang, she put all the chairs and tricycles into the hidden space without saying a word.
In just a blink of an eye, the tricycles and chairs that had just been piled there disappeared, leaving only messy traces on the ground. Su Wanwan quickly walked back to the bicycle, intending to leave this place quickly while no one noticed, so as not to arouse suspicion.
The tricycle and chair will not be corroded if they are put into the hidden space. After the snow is over, she will find an opportunity to send the tricycle and chair back here and pretend that no one has been here.
Thinking this silently in her mind, Su Wanwan rode her bike slowly back in a good mood.
"What is Wanwan doing here alone?"
Suddenly, Su Wanwan was trying to distinguish the footprints and car tracks she had left when she came here, when she heard a familiar voice behind her -
Why is Xu Yan here?
In an instant, Su Wanwan's heart suddenly tightened, and she even froze in place. Her entire upper body did not move at all. She just rode the bicycle forward instinctively. After several seconds, she stuttered and half turned her head, only to see a vast expanse of white behind her - except for the snowflakes that kept falling, there was nothing else unusual.
Did she just hear it wrong? !
But Xu Yan's voice was so clear...
Could it be that she was too nervous just now, so she scared herself...
Su Wanwan subconsciously comforted herself in this way in her heart, but the huge doubt still drove her to turn her head back.
There is still nothing behind...
"I'm here."
Just when Su Wanwan thought that she was really scaring herself and was about to put the matter behind her, a voice suddenly came to her ears!
I must have heard it right this time!
"Xu Yan?"
In the heavy snow, Su Wanwan looked back to the right and saw Xu Yan walking beside her. His walking speed was almost the same as her riding speed.
"How did you get here? Did you walk here?"
Su Wanwan's voice was still floating in the air from the shock. In fact, she wanted to ask what Xu Yan had just seen, or whether he just happened to pass by and didn't see what happened just now...
However, she was destined not to dare ask these questions.
Su Wanwan could only pretend to be confident, but in fact she avoided Xu Yan's gaze like a guilty thief, and even her hands that were holding the handlebars could not help but tremble.
"Didn't I ask Liu Mei'er to compile a list of the villagers who wanted to work in the factory? She gave it to me very quickly. I sorted out the number of people on the list who could be allowed to work in the factory, and then I rushed out to purchase the things needed to build the house."
Su Wanwan nodded as she listened.
"Then...what about the things you purchased? How much did you spend...what about your car?"
Su Wanwan did not listen to Xu Yan's words completely. She asked these questions in a panic just to ease her own embarrassment and divert Xu Yan's attention.
It was not until she asked the last question that she grasped the core of the contradiction - if Xu Yan went out to purchase supplies, then why was he walking back with nothing in his hands?
