Forensic Doctor: Finding the Way Back to the Mystery of Ancient Realms

Chapter 55 Midnight Song Shadow, the Mystery of Disappearance

The night was as dark as ink. The neon lights of the S City dance hall swayed in the breeze, but they could not hide the undercurrent behind it. Xu Youran and Situ Han stood outside the door of the abandoned dance hall. Their eyes looked through the mottled wooden door, as if they could penetrate time and space and glimpse the unsolved mystery.

"You Ran, what secrets do you think are hidden in this karaoke bar?" Situ Han's voice was low and powerful, revealing a hint of subtle nervousness.

Xu Youran frowned and stared at the closed door: "I don't know, but my intuition tells me that this place is inextricably linked to those missing women."

The two pushed open the door, and a stale smell hit them, mixed with a faint musty smell and a barely perceptible fragrance. Although the interior of the karaoke hall has been abandoned for many years, the stage, seats, bar and other facilities still retain their original appearance, but are covered with a thick layer of dust.

Xu Youran put on gloves and began to carefully inspect the scene. She noticed that there was an area on the floor in the center of the stage that was slightly different in color from the rest of the area, as if it had been repeatedly washed. She squatted down and carefully observed it with a magnifying glass, and found a few tiny golden hairs.

"Situ, look here." She said, pointing at the hair on the ground.

Situ Han came over, carefully picked up the hair with tweezers and put it in the evidence bag: "These hairs may belong to the missing woman. We have to send them for testing as soon as possible to see if we can find any clues."

Then, the two checked other corners of the karaoke bar and found a secret basement entrance. The basement was full of debris, but under a pile of old clothes, they found a yellowed diary.

The owner of the diary is a woman named Lin Wan'er, who was once a popular singer in this karaoke bar. The diary records her daily life and a secret love affair that no one knows about. However, in the last few pages of the diary, many disorganized records suddenly appeared, mentioning words such as "revenge" and "annihilation of the whole family", as well as a mysterious code name "Shadow".

"It seems that the cause of death of Miss Lin Wan'er is not simple." Xu Youran said in a deep voice, "The 'shadow' she mentioned is very likely the mastermind we have been looking for."

Situ Han nodded, a solemn look flashed in his eyes: "Moreover, her death may be directly related to those missing women."

In order to track down the true identity of "Shadow", Xu Youran and Situ Han decided to start with Lin Wan'er's lover. After some investigation, they found that Lin Wan'er's lover was the son of a powerful businessman in S City, named Li Junyi. However, when the two found Li Junyi, he had been missing for many days, leaving only a suicide note and a letter to Xu Youran.

In the suicide note, Li Junyi admitted his guilt for Lin Wan'er's death and hinted that he was not willing to be involved in the conspiracy. The letter described in detail the existence of the "Shadow" organization and their revenge plan, and also mentioned a new case that was about to happen - the S City jumping case.

During the investigation, the relationship between Xu Youran and Situ Han became more subtle. They experienced the test of life and death together, and their trust and dependence on each other grew quietly. However, when faced with Li Junyi's suicide note and letter, both of them fell into deep contemplation.

"Situ, do you think Li Junyi's words are credible?" Xu Youran asked.

Situ Han was silent for a moment, then slowly said, "It's half true and half false. But I believe that the 'Shadow' organization he mentioned is real. We must find them as soon as possible and stop their revenge plan."

The two looked at each other and saw determination in each other's eyes. They knew that this battle had just begun, and what awaited them ahead would be even more brutal challenges.

Just as Xu Youran and Situ Han were about to leave the karaoke bar, a gust of wind blew over and dropped a yellowed photo to the ground. The photo showed a young woman standing on the top of a tall building, smiling brightly but with a hint of barely perceptible sadness. On the back of the photo was written: "Next target, the top of S City."

Xu Youran picked up the photo, and a bad feeling welled up in her heart. She looked up at the tall buildings in the distance, as if she had seen the impending tragedy.

"Situ, we have to act quickly." She said anxiously, "There will be a suicide case in S City, and this may be just part of the revenge plan of the 'Shadow' organization."

Situ Han nodded, with a cold light flashing in his eyes: "Then let us join hands again and uncover the truth behind this."

As the night deepened, Xu Youran and Situ Han's footsteps echoed in the empty streets, and both of them were filled with mixed emotions. They were both nervous and full of anticipation for the upcoming challenge, and their tacit understanding and trust became even deeper.

"You Ran, what is the purpose of this 'Shadow' organization?" Situ Han broke the silence, his voice filled with thought.

Xu Youran shook her head slightly, her eyes deep. "From the current clues, it seems that their goal is not just revenge, but more like looking for a balance, or in other words, making up for some regrets. But what exactly it is, we still need to investigate further."

She paused and continued, "Moreover, I always feel that all this is inextricably linked to the S City Massacre during the Republic of China period. The grudges and hatreds of that era seem to be affecting the present in some way."

Situ Han frowned upon hearing this: "Indeed, that case remains an unsolved mystery. If the 'Shadow' organization is really related to this, then our task will be even more difficult."

The two quickened their pace, knowing that time was running out. They had to find Li Junyi's whereabouts and the true identity of the Shadow organization as soon as possible to prevent more tragedies from happening.

** NEW CASE SIGNS**

On the way back to the police station, Xu Youran suddenly stopped and stared at a tall building not far ahead. That building was where the woman was standing in the photo, and it looked particularly lonely and mysterious in the night.

"Situ, look at that building." She whispered, "I always feel like something is going to happen there."

Situ Han followed her gaze and had an ominous premonition in his heart. He quickly took out his cell phone and contacted the police representative in City S, asking them to immediately strengthen the monitoring of the building.

"We can't let history repeat itself," he said firmly. "Whatever the Shadow organization has planned, we must stop them."

After returning to the police station, Xu Youran and Situ Han immediately plunged into their intense work. They acted separately, continuing to track down Li Junyi's whereabouts and clues to the "Shadow" organization while preparing to deal with possible jumping cases.

During this process, the tacit understanding between the two reached an unprecedented level. They supported and encouraged each other, and provided the most solid support when the other needed it most. This emotion quietly grew during the intense investigation and became their most precious asset.

Just when everything seemed calm, the police suddenly received an emergency report: a woman appeared on the top floor of the high-rise building under close surveillance. She stood on the edge and seemed ready to jump down at any time.

Xu Youran and Situ Han rushed to the scene upon hearing the news. When they arrived, they saw the woman with her back to them, her long hair fluttering in the wind, and her figure looking extremely resolute.

"Is it her?" Xu Youran asked nervously.

Situ Han did not answer, but silently took out the walkie-talkie and issued a rescue order to the police. At the same time, he quietly approached the woman and tried to communicate with her.

However, at this moment, the woman suddenly turned around, revealing a face that was exactly the same as the one in the photo. Her eyes were empty and desperate, as if she had lost all hope.

"No!" Xu Youran screamed, trying to rush forward to stop her. But at this moment, the woman's body suddenly leaned forward and fell from the tall building...
