Chapter 45 Strange Letter
After a period of hard work, Lin Ruowei and Gu Yan finally solved the problem of the well, and the village returned to peace. One morning, Lin Ruowei was sorting out the newly arrived goods in the yard when she suddenly heard a hurried knock on the door.
"Who is knocking on the door so early today?" Lin Ruowei muttered as she walked over to open the door.
Gu Yan also walked out of the room and saw a young man delivering mail standing at the door. He handed over a letter breathlessly: "Ms. Lin, this is a letter for you."
Lin Ruowei took the letter, opened it and frowned: "Gu Yan, come and see this."
Gu Yan came over and saw the contents of the letter. He also showed a puzzled expression: "What does this letter say?"
"It says that someone wants to buy our newly developed tea garden and clay mine, but the letter came too suddenly and we haven't disclosed the news to the public yet," said Lin Ruowei.
"This matter is a bit strange, we have to handle it carefully." Gu Yan said, "Let's see if there are any other clues first."
The two carefully checked the envelope and letter paper and found that there was no sender's name and address on the envelope, and the handwriting on the letter paper was very ordinary, without any special marks.
"It seems that the letter is anonymous. We can't act rashly." Lin Ruowei said.
"Yes, we need more information." Gu Yan nodded in agreement, "Maybe we can go ask around in the village to see if anyone knows anything."
The two decided to act separately. Lin Ruowei went to the village to inquire about the news, while Gu Yan stayed at home to continue analyzing the letters.
Lin Ruowei asked around in the village, but no one knew any clues about the letter. She walked to the entrance of the village and met an old man who was fetching water. She went up to him and asked, "Old man, have you seen any strangers come to the village recently?"
The old man looked up at Lin Ruowei and shook his head: "I haven't seen any strangers, but a few days ago a businessman came to the village to ask about the tea plantation and the clay mine."
"Oh? Then what kind of person is he?" Lin Ruowei asked.
"The man was dressed gorgeously and looked very rich, but he refused to tell his name," the old man recalled. "He said he wanted to discuss business with you, but I told him you were not there."
Lin Ruowei's heart moved, and she quickly thanked him and returned home.
"Gu Yan, I heard some news in the village." Lin Ruowei couldn't wait to tell Gu Yan as soon as she returned home.
"What news?" Gu Yan put down the letter in his hand and asked.
"A businessman dressed in fancy clothes came to the village to inquire about our tea plantation and clay mine, but he refused to reveal his name," said Lin Ruowei.
"It seems that he wrote this letter." Gu Yan said, "Should we meet him and see what he wants to do?"
"I think you can try it, but be careful." Lin Ruowei said.
So, the two decided to write back to the merchant and ask him to meet at the village teahouse. The letter was sent quickly, and within a few days, the merchant replied and agreed to the time and place of the meeting.
On the day of the meeting, Lin Ruowei and Gu Yan arrived at the teahouse in advance and chose a seat by the window. Not long after, a middle-aged man in gorgeous clothes walked into the teahouse, looked around, and then walked towards them.
"Are you Miss Lin and Mr. Gu?" the man asked with a smile.
"Yes, please sit down." Lin Ruowei said.
After the man sat down, he introduced himself: "My surname is Zhao, my name is Zhao Desheng, and I am a businessman. I heard that you have developed a new tea plantation and clay mine, so I came here to discuss cooperation."
"Mr. Zhao, how did you know about our tea garden and clay mine?" Gu Yan asked.
"It's not that simple. I have some well-informed friends who told me this information." Zhao Desheng smiled mysteriously.
Lin Ruowei and Gu Yan looked at each other and both felt that this person's background was not simple, but in order to get more information, they decided to continue talking.
"Mr. Zhao, how would you like to cooperate?" Lin Ruowei asked.
"I can invest in purchasing your tea garden and clay mine, or we can develop them together and split the profits equally," said Zhao Desheng.
"We need time to think about it." Gu Yan said, "Mr. Zhao, can you please leave me your contact information?"
Zhao Desheng handed over a business card: "Of course, I'm always waiting for your reply."
After Lin Ruowei and Gu Yan sent Zhao Desheng away, they returned home to discuss countermeasures.
"Gu Yan, Zhao Desheng's background is unknown. We can't trust him easily." Lin Ruowei said.
"That's right, we need to investigate his background and find out who he is." Gu Yan said.
"It seems that this matter is not that simple." Lin Ruowei nodded.
The two decided to find some reliable friends to help further investigate Zhao Desheng's background and see what his intentions were.
Just as they were racking their brains for Zhao Desheng's case, an even stranger letter arrived quietly, which actually mentioned some of Zhao Desheng's secret past...
