Cloud Thinking
Chapter 170 Alienation and Curse
When Helia got into trouble, Ronnie was busy running errands for Chico to arrange a venue for Helia's eighteenth birthday party a week later.
This was a top priority, and time was extremely tight, so even his personal knight was drafted in to guard the scene.
Lydia has been in much better condition these days. She is currently working with Ronnie to get familiar with the environment and learn how to behave in society.
When they received the news that Helia was in trouble, the two of them didn't hesitate at all, and ran to the Amber Palace in unison, holding the long swords at their waists.
The maid who was caught by Starley to deliver the message hadn't even finished her words when she saw the two men running away. She quickly chased after them and told them what Starley had told her.
When the two arrived at the entrance of the basement, Lydia suddenly drew out her sword as if she was stressed. Her whole body tensed up, like a cat arching its back in an attacking posture, as if she felt a great threat.
Seeing the other three looking at her in surprise, Lydia explained: "There are strange magical fluctuations down there."
"I felt it, too." Firodosia nodded in agreement, frowning, "A very sticky, musty smell."
Ronnie had not learned magic, so he could not sense the restless magical power underground, but as a mercenary, he also felt that something was wrong when he stepped into this side hall.
"Little Philo, you go back with Princess Starley first. Lydia and I will go down to check out the situation." Ronnie arranged.
He had seen the horrible wound on Philodosia's neck. Although he didn't know what had happened, considering Helia's ability to cause trouble, it must not be a simple matter.
"No, I want to go down with you." Firodoxia shook her head. "The situation down there is changing very quickly. I noticed something was wrong when I left. While I was waiting for you up there, that sticky feeling became stronger and stronger."
"I suspect that the pagan who died was alienated."
Little Philo briefly explained what Helia had done tonight, and Stellar stood by and listened. When she heard that Helia's soul was almost taken away and she couldn't return to her body, she was so nervous that she almost couldn't breathe.
"Carlisle took the princess away, and I fell into a coma. I don't know how long it was, but I was awakened by a sticky and warm touch. When I opened my eyes, I found Cameron's headless body, which was decomposing rapidly."
"The flesh corroded and turned into blood that dripped down. The internal organs could not be contained and fell out. I could even see the bones in her chest. There were tiny bubbling sounds, as if she was being devoured bit by bit by something."
After hearing little Philo's description, Starley's face turned pale with fear and she covered her mouth to prevent herself from screaming.
"This is not the worst." Little Philo suddenly pulled up his sleeves, revealing a wrinkled patch of black and red skin. "I found that the blood left behind by the corrosion of flesh and bones seems to be corrosive. My hand touched the blood and became like this now."
"As for the blood that fell on the ground, it gathered into a pool with dense bubbles bubbling up from it, and granulations were growing out of it."
"Hiss—" After listening to Little Philo's description, Ronixi looked at her horrible little arm, took a breath, and gently pinched her wrist, "Does it hurt?"
Little Philo shook his head. "I don't feel anything, and it won't spread. I don't know what my hand will look like in the end."
Ronnie thought for a moment and made new arrangements. "This situation is a bit serious. So, Your Highness Stella, I beg you to take little Philo to Your Highness Helia's place and ask the healing magician to look at the wound. Tell them the situation here and ask them to send one or two high-level magicians to help us deal with it."
"Hurry, the epidemic is spreading down there. I'll go down and stop them first." Lydia didn't discuss it, but gave a direct notice, then she went through the small door leading to the basement with her sword in hand.
"Okay, let's go now!" Starley also realized that the situation was urgent enough, so she grabbed little Philo's hand again and dragged him out.
At this moment, little Philo did not resist, but followed the others obediently.
Ronnie drew his sword, turned around and caught up with Lydia.
In less than three hours, the basement changed drastically. The dark red blood gradually invaded and covered the walls, floor, and ceiling, taking everything within its reach into its range.
Moreover, above this blood color, there are wriggling small fleshy buds, densely packed and growing at a very terrifying speed. The largest one is as tall as a human.
This is not the most terrifying thing. What is terrifying is that after the granulation tissue grows to a certain size, it adjusts its shape little by little and becomes more and more like a human.
After Lydia and Ronnie finished cutting the meat sprouts, they walked to the room where Cameline was imprisoned. What they saw was a bloody mass of flesh that had begun to take on a human form. Its hands and feet had already grown out, and its facial features were now changing.
"Damn!" Ronnie felt like his scalp was exploding. Even though he was knowledgeable, he had never seen such a disgusting and weird thing!
Lydia has always been a man of action. She injected magic power into the long sword, and flames ignited on the steel sword. She swung her arm and chopped directly at the flesh man.
The flames made crackling sounds as they came into contact with each other, accompanied by the aroma of burning meat. The dark red flesh was instantly roasted black and wilted.
For some reason, even though the flesh-ball had not grown a mouth yet, Ronnie seemed to hear its screams, which made his temples throb with pain.
The flesh buds would continue to grow even after being cut off, and it seemed that they would grow faster after being cut off. In the time it took them to get from the entrance to the room, the corridor behind them would soon be occupied by the rapidly growing flesh mass.
All that was left of Camelin's body was a fragmented skeleton, with sticky, turbid blood dripping down drop by drop.
"What is going on?" Ronnie was not often exposed to magic, but even the most ferocious monster he had ever seen in his life did not make him feel so scared. The fear seemed to be born from his bones and could not be driven away.
"I don't know either, but it feels disgusting." Lydia swung her sword and slashed out a wave of fire, directly smashing the cross with Camelin's body hanging on it, without any respect for the dead.
"It's true that Camelin is a pagan, but I've never heard that the corpse of a pagan would change after death?" Ronnie raised his hand and cut off the rapidly growing granulations. He didn't know what to do now.
The two of them mechanically repeated the action of cutting the flesh buds until Britney came with Grammy.
"Oh my god, it's so fucking disgusting. Why do these pagans, cultists and black magicians like to do these disgusting things?" Grammy has not stopped talking since he came down, and has been complaining all the time, showing his disgust to the fullest.
"Stop talking nonsense and try to track the scent of the pagans." Britney interrupted him as he tried to continue cursing and urged him.
Helia actually had a scenario in mind for the current situation. Camelin would definitely make some small moves, and Watersise might also take advantage of her loss of consciousness to do something. She had anticipated all of this.
Therefore, she specifically told little Philo that if anything unexpected happened in the basement, he must find a way to guard it and not let anyone else in. She wanted to use Camryn as bait to catch the big fish behind her - the pagans.
But at this moment, Lydia, Ronishi and the others broke in, and Britney and the others followed closely behind. Originally, they were worried that the atmosphere here was mixed and they would not be able to find any useful clues, but now, looking at this disgusting scene, it was as if they were afraid that others would not know that it was the pagans who were causing trouble.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk! How come you have become so bossy?"
Grammy summoned his magic wand, poured magic power into it, and whispered a spell. A pale green light lit up from the wand, and the wind suddenly blew around him, pulling his sleeves and beard fluttering.
As the magic was released, the wind that gathered around him dispersed instantly. The wind that should have been soft and friendly, but in an instant, it cut into pieces those wildly growing granulations.
Grammy is a magician with mutated wind attributes, and the best at tracking among the high-level magicians in the team. Not long after, the scattered magic power came back with a small ball of dark red air, which was constantly compressed and squeezed, and finally turned into a round little bead and fell into his hand.
"Oh." Grammy held the beads and showed them to them, then put them away.
"What should we do here? The granulation tissue keeps growing, we can't just leave it alone." Ronnie asked.
"The bodies of pagans who have been blessed by the gods will change after death, representing the wrath of the gods, cursing all living things around them." Britney explained, "The curse cannot be easily dispelled. We can't keep this place anymore. I'll have someone blow it up later."
"Then what about us...?!" Ronnie pointed at himself and then at the others, frowning.
"I don't think you touched the granulation tissue, right?" Grammy asked.
"No." Ronnie and Lydia looked at each other and shook their heads. "But, little Philo touched it. Her hand..."
"Oh, that little girl, Freddy is watching it. It's the first time for him to encounter this kind of curse, and he is very excited. Don't worry, he will find a solution even if it means he kills himself." Grammy replied.
High-level magicians are more or less magic fanatics, and they can't contain their excitement when they come across something new.
This curse from the God of Wisdom is really rare. No wonder Freddy was so happy when he saw little Philo and couldn't let her go. If you didn't know, you would think he had seen his own granddaughter.
Britney looked at the buds that were growing wildly and trying to devour them, and gestured to retreat, "Let's go."
On his way to see Helia, Claude heard several explosions in succession. He couldn't help but hold his forehead, wondering whether borrowing Helia back was the right decision.
But this thought suddenly disappeared when he saw his daughter lying on the bed with a pale face and lifeless eyes, and was replaced by a feeling of dull heartache.
After all, she is my daughter, whom I have treated like a treasure for more than ten years. Seeing her suffer, I still feel a little worried and distressed as a parent.
"What's the situation?" Claude looked at Elroy who was standing by and asked.
"Nothing. Just a little nauseous. Not feeling quite at home in my body." Helia answered before Elroy could.
She raised her eyes to meet Claude's worried gaze and smiled faintly, "Father, I think we need to have a good talk about Cameline."
Claude sat on the soft chair beside the bed. He raised an eyebrow slightly when he heard Helia's words, "I thought you had checked it all yourself."
"No way, with so little time and a shortage of manpower, and a lot of things on hand, I can't find out so much." Helia sighed helplessly, "If it weren't for this, I wouldn't have asked you directly, father."
Claude glanced at the people in the room. They were basically trustworthy people. Besides, this matter was not a big secret. As long as Helia paid a little more attention and spent some time, she would be able to find out.
"This matter, Camelin, was your mother's idea." He said slowly, "The pagans are not completely useless. Compared with the believers of the Philosos Society, wisdom seems to prefer those radical and crazy pagans."
"You can get a lot of information about wisdom from the pagans. This is the clue your mother left for you. As for more, it depends on whether you want to find out and whether you can find out."
