The road to wealth of a peasant widow

Chapter 46: Settling the Cows

After dinner, the kitchen was left to Changan and Changfu to clean up, and Chen Cui took Changping to Muramasa's house to pick up the cow.

After leaving the front door of his own house, Changping finally spoke with some entanglement: "Mom, what do you think my grandparents will do if they know that we rented the ox cart from Grandpa Youcai's family?"

Chen Cui simply said, "Cold salad!"

Chang Ping was puzzled: "What did you say, mother?"

Chen Cui then realized that she had just said something inappropriate, and quickly made amends, "I mean it's okay, your grandparents will know if they know. If your grandma wants to make a fuss, just let her make a fuss and ignore her. We have separated, how can she control how we spend money and do things? Besides, your grandpa wants to save face, so he won't let her make a fuss too much."

Changping was still a little worried: "Will she ask us to return the ox, use the ox cart in the old house, and give her the money?"

Chen Cui shook her head: "No, doing so will obviously offend Uncle Youcai. Your grandfather is smart and will not do such a thing."

However, she would still mention it to Uncle Youcai later, and ask him to keep the fact of her renting the ox cart secret as much as possible, especially from the old house, to keep it a secret for as long as possible and try to delay the exposure.

As soon as the two of them reached the center of the village, they met Changgen who was pulling a ox cart, and Liu Youcai was also with him.

"Uncle Youcai, we are going there right now. Thank you for taking this trip." Chen Cui greeted him quickly.

Liu Youcai waved his hand and said, "It's almost dark now, and there's nothing else to do, so I'll let Changgen take it to you. I'll also eat and go out for a walk."

Chen Cui noticed that there was a large load of stuff piled high on the ox cart behind.

"What is this?" she couldn't help but ask.

"Oh, this is the fodder our family prepared for the cows. We thought that your family didn't raise cows before, and you might not be able to prepare it all at once, so we sent some here for the cows to eat first, so that you have time to prepare." Liu Youcai said lightly.

Chen Cui couldn't help but think that she was really careless. She was only thinking about preparing a place for the cows, but forgot about the fodder.

In spring, summer and autumn, you can cut grass to feed cattle. When most of the grass and trees turn yellow in winter, the cattle need to be fed special hay.

The fodder needed to be prepared in advance, and she had neglected it. Fortunately, Liu Youcai delivered the fodder to their home, otherwise it would have been a bit tricky for a while.

"Thank you, Uncle Youcai, you are so thoughtful." Chen Cui said gratefully.

Changping also kept thanking him.

Liu Youcai smiled and waved his hand, "We are all from the same village, so I am just being polite. If you need any help in the future, just let me know."

Hearing him say that, Chen Cui took the opportunity to bring up what she wanted to say: "Uncle Youcai, I really have something to ask of you now."

Liu Youcai was stunned. There really was something going on!

"Tell me what's going on. Let me hear it."

"I'm talking about renting your ox cart. Can you please not advertise it to anyone for now, especially to our old house?"

When Liu Youcai heard this, he immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

Even without Chen's telling, he would not take the initiative to tell anyone about this matter, especially to Liu Youliang's family, where it had to be kept secret to some extent.

"Oh, about this matter, I will definitely do it without you telling me. Don't worry, I know your difficulties."

Liu Youliang is so confused that he treats his eldest son as a treasure and his second son as a weed, forcing his second son to become estranged from him. The honest and upright Eryong would rather get his head broken and bleed than to fight with them. How much resentment must he have stored in his heart!

Alas, now that Eryong is gone, that old fellow Liu Youliang still hasn't woken up. He doesn't know whether to be nice to the orphans and widows of the second wife, or he only cares about his eldest son and doesn't care about the second wife at all.

He's not talking about people behind their backs, but Wende doesn't seem like a good person. Just wait and see, that old guy will suffer in the future!

Since they met halfway, Liu Youcai and his grandson decided not to go any further. They handed the ox cart to Changping, and the two of them strolled back home.

Changgen drove the ox cart into the house and called his uncle and two younger brothers. They worked together to unload the large pile of hay from the cart and put it in the room next to the kitchen, which was prepared for the oxen.

Then lift the stone trough down and put it up again, and a high-end cowshed is ready.

Changping led the cow in and tied it up. Perhaps because it was in a new environment, the cow was a little uneasy and kept moving back and forth.

But when it saw the familiar feeding trough and the familiar grass in the trough, it immediately calmed down.

The family looked at the cows grazing peacefully and felt their hearts filled with hope.

"You learn from your uncle and brother how to take care of the cows and how to drive a cart. When our family has our own ox cart, everyone can drive one." Chen Cui said happily to the two younger ones.

Changan and Changfu both happily agreed. They did not think that this was just adding more work to themselves and were happy to learn. They were happy that their family was getting better and better and that they would have the hope of buying an ox cart in the future.

Chen Cui couldn't help but feel that she was really lucky. The children she met were all very sensible. No matter what work they were asked to do, no one would complain or refuse. Even for some things she didn't ask them to do, they would take the initiative to do them in order to make themselves less tired.

In front of these children, Chen Cui felt somewhat inferior.

Although she worked harder when she was young, that was already modern society, and life was a hundred times better than in the feudal society. When she suddenly arrived in this backward era, she was very uncomfortable and often complained secretly.

But among these three children, the eldest, Changping, is not even twelve years old, but he already thinks of himself as half the head of the family. He rushes to do everything and wants to take responsibility for everything.

Looking at the children who were also busy all day and covered in dust, Chen Cui smiled and said, "Let's go and boil some water to wash up."

Chen Cui sat under the stove and lit a fire. She asked them to wash first. They washed their faces, hands, and feet. She put herself last because she wanted to take a bath.

Even though she still had to work tomorrow and would inevitably get dirty again, Chen Cui still didn't want to go to sleep in dirt.

After taking a shower, she used the well water in the space to wash her clothes, which could save some water for the kitchen and she didn't have to go to fetch water.

When she came out of the space again and lay down on the bed, Chen Cui looked at Sui Sui's lovely sleeping face. She stared at her for a moment and couldn't help but smile like an old mother again. How could my daughter be so cute!

I don't know when it started, but she has already put herself into the role of mother. When mentioning Changping, Suisui and others, she naturally thinks about how my son is and how my daughter is.

It no longer feels like when I first came here. Although I call their names, it is difficult to feel a sense of identity in my heart. I always feel that these are someone else's children and I am just taking over temporarily.

Perhaps, it was because she had always been looking forward to being a mother and having the opportunity to spend time with her children like an ordinary woman, so she integrated into this identity so quickly.

Perhaps, it was because these children did not know that she was fake and they had a genuine admiration for her. She also unconsciously fell in love with them and immersed herself in this auspicious family atmosphere, unable to extricate herself.

Although the current conditions are a bit difficult, with these children around her, Chen Cui feels hopeful and motivated. She falls into a deep sleep with anticipation for a better life in the future.
