Traveling through ancient times: living a different life

Chapter 112 Helping Villagers Build New Homes

Bi Yue drove five horse-drawn carriages out of the village and headed towards the woods in front. When they were 80 miles away from the village, they stopped at an open space next to the woods.

I placed an order for bricks, sand, lime and some tools for repairing the house on the system, and the cement was transported back eventually. It cannot be placed in a damp place, so I returned to the village in half an hour.

When everyone saw the carriage coming back with bricks and other materials for repairing the house, they hurried over and started moving the things to the open space. After getting off the carriage, Bi Yue drove out again. She made three round trips. Luo Chen accompanied Bi Yue on the last trip. "Yue'er, they need to repair the house with so much stuff. We will stay here for a few days."

"Help them to the end. Hurry up and repair the house in the next few days. There are not many people in this village. It can be finished in five days."

"Okay, I'll listen to Yue'er."

The two men drove the five horse-drawn carriages to a stop 80 meters ahead, placed orders for 17 tents of various sizes, and the last two trucks were for cement, and then pulled the carriages back.

Everyone put the last batch of building materials on the open ground, put all the tents in the ancestral hall, and temporarily put the cement on the carriage. The two brothers Biyue and Luochen taught them how to build tents. Those with more people lived in big tents, and those with fewer people lived in small tents. Everyone worked hard.

Tents of different sizes were built one by one on the snow-covered ruins. The villagers were so moved that they cried, now they had a place to live.

Several women in the village had prepared dinner, and then the whole village started to eat.

After dinner, the Luo Chen brothers and Bi Yue began to distribute charcoal to 15 families so that they could have fire in their tents and stay warm at night.

The first batch of supplies brought in at noon were distributed to them, including quilts, cotton coats and trousers for bedding, etc. Everyone happily took the things and expressed gratitude profusely.

Two tents were set up next to the ancestral hall, one of which was close to the hall to make it convenient for the villagers to eat here. After all, there were 122 people and the hall could not accommodate so many.

There was another tent where Biyue and her two brothers lived. Biyue divided the tent into two rooms, giving the two brothers one room.

After a busy day, everyone was tired and went to sleep in their tents early.

At around 15: a.m. on the morning of the eleventh day of the first lunar month, the villagers got up one after another. Everyone put on their clothes and gloves. The village chief asked the people to lead dozens of young and middle-aged people in the village to start repairing the house. He also arranged for several women to cook. Others mixed mud and sand, and some moved stones. They divided the work and cooperated on the foundation of the old house, and everyone worked enthusiastically.

The two brothers Luo Chen also joined the ranks of house repairing. Since the original old house had a ready-made foundation, it would be faster to build houses on it. In addition, the building materials were also good. Everyone was busy and organized, and the main houses of the three houses were built in one day. The kitchen and woodshed were built by themselves using old wood.

While having dinner in the evening, everyone was talking about how the house could be completely repaired in just a few days, and the villagers were all enthusiastic and full of expectations.

After five days of busy work and everyone working together, the houses were finally completed. 15 blue brick and tile houses were built on the original ruins.

When everyone saw the brand new brick house, they all cried with joy. The whole village knelt at the feet of the Luo Chen brothers and Bi Yue, thanking them for bringing such a nice house to the whole village.

The brothers Biyue and Luochen asked everyone to get up. The ground was cold and the villagers expressed their gratitude and said nice things.

The three of them rescued the villagers here and repaired houses for everyone, which took five or six days. Now that things are almost done, they will prepare to return to Shangyou City tomorrow morning.

Today all the houses have been completed, and it is the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. The whole village held a banquet with more than ten dishes and more than a dozen tables. All 122 people from the village, young and old, both men and women, gathered around the table, eating such a sumptuous meal in a lively atmosphere. Everyone was very grateful to these three kind people.

The whole village agreed to carve the names of the three benefactors on a wooden plaque and enshrine it in the ancestral hall, so that not only the whole village but also the future generations would remember these three benefactors.

These few days have passed, and apart from these three benefactors who selflessly helped the entire village to survive the snowstorm, provided food and daily necessities, and repaired houses for the entire village free of charge, no one in the surrounding area knew that the village had suffered a disaster, and the county did not send anyone to the villages and hamlets to check.

After dinner in the afternoon, Biyue asked the village chief to bring over the 15 people who were repairing the house, as she had something to tell them. After everyone came to the ancestral hall and sat down.

Bi Yue took a booklet on how to make earth bricks, build a brick kiln, and operate it, and said to the 15 people, "Who among you can read? Those who have been to private schools and are more literate, please stand up."

Three people came out, and one of them, a man in his 30s, said, "My name is Sun Chongshan. My father was a student in Dashan Village. He opened a private school in the village to teach the children in the village how to read and understand.

My father passed away three years ago because of a cold. Since I was a child, I have learned the Hundred Family Names, Thousand Character Classic, and arithmetic under my father's instruction. I am considered the most educated person in the village."

Bi Yue handed him the booklet, "This book explains in detail how to make earth bricks, how to build a brick kiln, how to burn them, and so on. The book not only has words, but also drawings.

As long as you learn how to make and burn bricks, widen and repair the roads in the village, and sell the burned bricks, the lives of your entire village will get better and better. I leave this to your village, and I hope you will make a fortune with your hard-working hands.

After you finish planting the fields in the spring, you should build a kiln and start firing bricks and tiles. This way, everyone in your village will have an income. You are the most educated among them, so you should be in charge of this matter. Village chief, do you think this arrangement is okay?"

The village chief replied sincerely, "Very good, your arrangement is very good. Sun Chongshan is indeed the only one in this village who knows the most words."

The villagers got this technology, and the village chief and 15 people all knelt down to thank the girl for her great kindness.

Biyue asked everyone to get up and go back to rest early as they were tired after a few days.

Back in the tent, the three of them decided to go back tomorrow.
