Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble
Chapter 423 Let them wait
Li Xueyue did not rush away, nor did she flee the scene like a frightened rabbit.
Li Xueyue walked at a normal pace to avoid arousing suspicion. If she suddenly ran out as if being chased by a ghost, it would definitely raise too many suspicions. She didn't want Madam Ge Beining sniffing around everywhere.
“Yu Zhen should know about this,” she murmured to herself. As she turned the corner, she hesitated. If she told Yu Zhen, he would surely handle it himself.
Li Xueyue didn't want him to act on his own. Even if she said she wanted to handle it herself, he wouldn't listen to her.
She bit her lower lip. Fear made her steps slower and heavier until she stopped at the street corner. She hesitated whether to tell him.
“I don’t like keeping secrets…” Li Xueyue murmured softly, so softly that almost no one could hear her. Her servants glanced at her, wondering if the sound was just the wind.
"Your Highness, is everything alright? Should we summon the imperial physician? A new imperial physician has recently arrived; he is young and reliable, and it is said that his examination went very smoothly..." Xiao Hua said softly, not wanting to raise her voice and disturb the Crown Princess.
"I'm not made of glass," Li Xueyue chuckled lightly. Why did everyone treat her like that? All she did was cry once… well, actually more than once. But still…
“Your Highness, you are incredibly precious to all of us. We worry about you not out of obligation, but because we genuinely care about you. You have always been so kind to us,” Xiao Hua said softly, gently placing a hand on her chest.
She looked up at the Crown Princess, her eyes filled with admiration. The Crown Princess was not only kind and considerate, but also full of love. Her contributions to the country will be forever recorded in history.
Many ordinary citizens thanked the Crown Princess for urging the Roundtable to cut taxes, thus preventing protests from erupting.
Furthermore, the Crown Princess helped Han Jian forge alliances with Wuyi and Nanhui, two states with which Han Jian had historically been at odds. This was far beyond what people expected for a Crown Princess in her first year on the throne.
"You're too kind..." Li Xueyue's voice trailed off. She smiled wearily as she said goodbye to Xiaohua, then continued walking.
"This isn't just polite talk, it's the truth, Your Highness," Xiao Hua said with a thoughtful smile. She had always known that the Crown Princess was kind-hearted, but seeing her so humble... it was truly admirable.
Xiao Hua had no doubt that once the Crown Princess became Empress and gained greater power, she would surely achieve great things.
"Your sweet talk is giving me cavities," Li Xueyue joked. She continued towards Yu Zhen's study, determined to see him. Although she hesitated to tell him about Qin Hou, there was something else she wanted to discuss with him.
Li Xueyue came up with a way to raise funds to build more schools and orphanages for the children. The idea was so simple that she could hardly believe she hadn't thought of it before.
Xiao Hua looked down at the ground, her smile so bright she almost burst out laughing. If only the Crown Princess knew... how much she loved her, how grateful she was to her.
Despite the Crown Prince's cruel torture of them, the maids still respected the Crown Princess, for she was their savior. They were supposed to kneel in worship for a whole day, but the Crown Princess pardoned them and shortened their sentences. This was an immense favor to the maids, especially since no one else had defended them.
In a sense, the Crown Princess is a spokesperson for the disadvantaged.
"A marquis and a minister?" Yu Zhen said in a low voice.
Yu Zhen carefully examined the documents presented to him. They had arrived the day before, but he only had time to review them thoroughly that afternoon, after he had just finished a meeting with his ministers regarding the kingdom's budget for the following year. The documents were finalized; Yu Zhen only needed to affix the royal seal.
“Your Highness, our two families are not related by blood,” Hu Dengxiao said. He stood on the other side of the large mahogany table where the Crown Prince sat. The study window was open, and a gentle breeze rustled the parchment pages.
“Your Highness, I originally thought they would be because they share the same surname, but I guess not. Considering the size of Han Jian, this is not surprising.”
"Are these the Qin people living in the capital?" Yu Zhen asked.
"Yes-"
"We must also search other towns; we must search the entire country to find that person."
Hu Dengxiao was almost brought to tears by this impossible task. Just gathering information would take at least several months, not to mention personally going there to conduct a personal assessment! He suppressed his complaints and offered a suggestion.
"You just mentioned what Earl Qin's job is? Perhaps we can use that to narrow down our search, Your Highness."
“So many years have passed, he must have passed the business on to his successor long ago,” Yu Zhen said. “We will investigate thoroughly.”
Before anyone could respond, a knock sounded on the study door, echoing between the mahogany walls. He looked up, his gaze shifting from the parchment, but less than a second later, his attention returned to it.
"Tell the eunuchs to wait. I'm busy."
Hu Dengxiao nodded in agreement and ran off like an excited puppy, eager to carry out his master's orders. He was looking forward to another reward—having Lu Tianbi accompany him on the mission…
Hu Dengxiao slipped out, cleared his throat, and was about to ask the guest to leave when he was suddenly shoved aside. He gaped in astonishment. Who on earth had the ability to push him like that?!
“You can’t trespass…” Hu Dengxiao paused, then his eyes lit up when he saw the Crown Princess.
"Come in, come in, Your Highness!" Hu Dengxiao said excitedly, opening the door for her. She walked in, a joyful smile on her face.
Hu Dengxiao closed the door behind him, rubbed the spot where he had been shoved, and called out urgently, "Zhenzhen! Look who's come to see you!"
Yu Zhen gritted his teeth. His friend was just as persistent as Xiao Juzi. Now that Xiao Juzi was no longer bound by Li Xueyue, that damned beast was running rampant throughout the mansion, terrifying everyone. There were even rumors of eunuchs fainting in the corridors.
Yu really needs to think of a new solution. The collar isn't working, and the fence is useless. Haha, what a troublesome pet, just like its owner.
"Didn't I tell you to get rid of them?" Yu Zhen asked without looking up, continuing to stare at the parchment. Hmm... this marquis seems to be a merchant. Did his queen mention something similar?
"Yes, that's one way to greet your wife."
Yu Zhen looked up and saw a smile playing on her lips. He couldn't help but chuckle, his anger instantly dissipating. "I know there are other ways, my little princess."
"Do I really want to know?" she pondered.
“Of course you can.” Yu Zhen waved for her to come over. “Come on, little sunshine, I’ll take you to see it.”
Li Xueyue was amused by his words; she had already anticipated what would happen next. She approached him, and he immediately stood up, put his arm around her waist, pulled her closer, and leaned down to kiss her.
She closed her eyes involuntarily, waiting expectantly for his kiss. However, the kiss was slow in coming. She frowned in confusion. Before she could protest, he placed a gentle kiss on her forehead. The kiss lingered for a long time, sending a flutter through her heart.
"You're as beautiful as ever," Yu Zhen whispered on her forehead. He pursed his lips, concealing a playful smile. She always longed for a kiss. Teasing her was fun.
"Uh...then...I'll leave now." Hu Dengxiao nodded towards the door and silently took a few steps back.
“I think the kingdom would prefer that the future princess or prince conceived in bed… But don’t worry!” Hu Dengxiao said, walking to the door.
"Good luck!" Hu Dengxiao rushed out the door to avoid Yu Zhen killing him with his eyes.
"They're so rude, showing off their love in front of me..." Hu Dengxiao muttered. Suddenly, he saw a familiar figure in the distance and immediately perked up. Then, as usual, he ran towards her, chasing after a love that could never be realized.
