The conversation then turned to lighter topics. They chatted about the weather, flowers, and even Li Xueyue's health. Soon, time passed, and it was time for Li Xueyue to take her leave. She said goodnight to the Empress and departed happily.

However, life is often filled with disappointments. Not long after Li Xueyue left the garden, she caught a glimpse of a familiar figure at the end of the corridor.

Li Xueyue suppressed a weary sigh; she had no time for beating around the bush. However, she straightened her shoulders and raised her chin.

"Your Highness, we meet again." Madam Ge Beining performed her usual curtsy, a bright smile on her face, though a hint of languor lingered in her eyes.

“Yes, what a coincidence,” Li Xueyue said. She didn’t look forward to this small talk, because it wouldn’t do her any good. Well, except for the meaningless malicious sarcasm hidden beneath the sweet words.

"Have a pleasant day," Li Xueyue said after the two fell silent. She nodded and walked past Madam Ge Beining.

Unfortunately, the lady began to ask, "Your Highness, may I ask you a question..." Before she could finish speaking, she turned to face the Crown Princess.

Li Xueyue raised an eyebrow curiously; she was eager to know what Madam Ge Beining wanted to ask.

"How are you? I hope you are well, especially after..." Mrs. Ge Beining struggled to find the right words. "...that matter."

Li Xueyue chuckled softly and gave Madam Ge Beining a forced smile, the smile even extending to her eyes.

"Ms. Ge, you can rest assured that I have recovered very well."

"Yes, I mean your mental health. I know that miscarriage is a huge blow to women."

"How do you know?" Li Xueyue asked thoughtfully. "Madam Ge, have you experienced it firsthand?"

Madam Ge Beining's eyes widened, never expecting the other party to be so bold as to question her innocence. This treacherous little princess... she gritted her teeth.

Even the Crown Princess's maids exchanged glances, eager to gossip about the conversation.

Even if Lady Ge Beining wanted to yell at the Crown Princess, she had to maintain her politeness. She was having such a bad day; all she wanted to do was crawl back to bed and get some sleep.

Xu Jiaqi and the other maids first ruined her morning mood, then the Marquis joined in the fun, and finally the Empress practically kicked her out of the garden. Now, she has to try to stay rational while talking to the Crown Princess.

“I’m just making guesses based on the people I’ve met in my life and the books I’ve read,” she said.

"Oh, you read?"

The maids chuckled.

Madam Ge Beining's hand twitched slightly, as if she wanted to hit something. Why was the Crown Princess so determined to make enemies in the palace? Wasn't Xu Jiaqi enough? Wasn't one miscarriage enough?

“Wait, that’s not what I meant,” Li Xueyue said with a slightly shy smile. “I meant, Miss Ge, what kind of books are you interested in?”

Mrs. Ge Beining didn't know why she was being interrogated so relentlessly today, and she tried hard to avoid looking at the ground. How wonderful it would be to be able to speak freely and without restraint, knowing that every word she uttered carried weight.

If only... if only the Crown Prince hadn't been bewitched by this hot-tempered woman. Perhaps then, she would be the one possessing this power, not this nameless princess from Wuyi Mountain.

“I read all kinds of books. I’ll read anything that interests me,” she said.

Li Xueyue nodded slowly. Didn't that mean Mrs. Ge Beining had a wide range of interests? She felt there might be some similarities between them.

"Your Highness, what about you? What are you interested in?"

“Me too,” Li Xueyue said vaguely. She didn’t need Mrs. Ge Beining to know her personal preferences.

Here, any word can be used to attack each other. After all, words are the weapon of high society. The sharper the tongue, the sharper the sword, until it pierces a clenched fist and tears each other's tongues.

“I remember you are very skilled in swordsmanship and archery,” Lady Ge Beining suddenly said. “Your skills are truly outstanding. Could you teach me, Your Highness?”

Li Xueyue raised an eyebrow. This was strange, and it came too suddenly… She couldn't yet determine what other person's motives were, but she didn't want to waste any more time by Madam Ge Beining's side. However, while being close to friends was important, staying away from enemies was even more crucial.

However, not everything is unworthy of such concern. Li Xueyue shook her head slightly, a hint of regret in her smile, her brows furrowed. She placed one hand on her abdomen.

“I’m afraid that engaging in strenuous exercise now will not prevent unfortunate incidents from happening again in the future…” Li Xueyue said, but this was just an excuse.

“Hmm,” Li Xueyue suddenly added, a hint of cunning and shyness flashing in her eyes. She glanced around, as if preparing to reveal some secret. Then she gestured for Madam Ge Beijing to come closer, and Madam Ge Beijing did so without hesitation.

Li Xueyue pursed her lips and said softly, "Indeed, some training is very strenuous, requiring daily morning and evening sessions, but it's for a great goal, don't you think?"

Mrs. Ge Beining's body stiffened, her pupils dilated, and she struggled to hold back a scream.

Her fingers dug deeply into her palms, veins bulging. Suddenly, she found a justification for her actions. Initially, she only wanted to warn the Crown Princess. But since both of them had revealed their weapons, why not make good use of them?

Lady Ge Beining tried hard not to think that the person who enjoyed the Crown Prince's favor could have been her. The person sitting on the throne could have been her. That person could have smiled gently and caressed the back of her head.

"Is...is that so, Your Highness?" Lady Ge Beining stammered, this was the first time such a situation had occurred since they met.

Li Xueyue's eyes flickered. So this was what had enraged the usually composed and calm lady. She could almost see the murderous intent in Madam Ge Beining's fierce eyes. Now, their pretenses had all fallen away, hadn't they?

"So please forgive me, I don't have time to watch the archery and swordplay competitions with you," Li Xueyue concluded.

She took a step back, her smile widening, pretending nothing had happened between them.

Li Xueyue looked to the side where the sun was high in the sky, and although autumn had arrived, it was still unbearably hot.

"Oh my, look!" she exclaimed, feigning a gasp. "Time flies."

“Yes, indeed…Princess,” Mrs. Gebeining said through gritted teeth. She didn’t even want to use the title “Princess” to address this wanton woman. Who would so openly proclaim their marital scandalous affairs?

Lady Ge Beining certainly didn't want to hear any of this. Especially when she learned who should have been by his side. She might not have been raised to be the Crown Prince's wife from childhood, but the Crown Prince's wife had previously given her perfunctory responses, just humming and hawing, but that was still a form of response.

"Since that's how things are, I'll take my leave," Li Xueyue said thoughtfully. She relished the almost uncontrollable anger in Madam Ge Beining's eyes.

Li Xueyue turned around, preparing to leave in a hurry. But then, her attention was drawn to something. At the end of the corridor, she saw him.
