Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble
Chapter 417 Practice Days and Nights
Madame Göbenin lied. The Queen wasn't in such a hurry to see her. To be honest, she wasn't even sure if the Queen wanted to see her today.
Whenever a miscarriage occurred, the Queen would become depressed for a while. She wouldn't smile, nor would she entertain anyone. Nothing could lift her from that gloomy mood. Only time could heal the wounds.
“I don’t blame her,” she said softly. “She’s had so many miscarriages, and the Emperor couldn’t even be bothered to comfort her. Instead, he just found some concubine to comfort himself.”
Mrs. Gebenin's hands suddenly trembled. She would never forget the terrified expression on the poor concubine's face. Her face was pale, her veins bulged, and white foam came out of her mouth.
The only concubine in the palace gave birth to a useless princess. A concubine who fled to Wuyi Mountain to take the imperial examination was poisoned to death not long after.
"Looking back now, it was that damned exchange that caused all this chaos," Mrs. Gebenin said, glaring at the floor.
If the Crown Prince hadn't gone to Wuyi Mountain, perhaps they would be married now. If he hadn't set foot in Wuyi, everything would have been better. All the mysteries would have been solved, and her fate would have been intertwined with the Crown Prince's.
"If only that wretched Crown Princess were gone..." Madam Ge Beining's voice trailed off as she sighed wearily and clutched her stomach. This was nothing but a dream.
"Now that Xu Jiaqi is gone, I can't even imagine what this is like, sigh." Mrs. Ge Beining didn't want to think about these depressing things anymore. She continued pacing in the corridor, with only one goal in mind.
The Queen's Corridor.
Lady Ge Beining had no choice. She had nowhere to go, nowhere to go. Her life belonged to the Empress, just as the Empress's darkest secrets belonged to Lady Ge Beining.
“That’s right,” she muttered to herself, suddenly becoming suspicious. “The Queen won’t abandon me easily. After all, I helped her out of trouble—both literally and symbolically. My hands are stained with her stain. She won’t abandon me easily.”
Madame Göbelin stopped confidently at the garden gate. This was the Queen's favorite place to relax. The palace had many beautiful gardens, but none of the flowers chosen by the Queen herself were more vibrant than this. The flowers here were born because of the Queen, and blossomed because of her grace.
"Just bear with her gloomy gaze. Once this mess passes, everything will return to normal," Mrs. Ge Beining comforted her.
She took a deep breath, mustered her courage, and took a step forward. Fully armed guards made way for her. They knew the rules here all too well. No one else could get through, but Mrs. Gebenin was no ordinary person.
"Your Majesty," Lady Gebenin greeted softly.
She lifted her skirt and performed her signature curtsy. In fact, she had tried the Crown Princess's signature etiquette when speaking with Marquis Qin. But Lady Ge Beining didn't like it, and her knees hurt too.
"What are you doing here?" the Queen said impatiently in a sharp voice.
Mrs. Gebenin stared in surprise. The Queen had never spoken to her in such a harsh and irritated tone. She looked up, wondering why the Queen was acting this way.
"I just--"
“Oh, never mind,” the Queen sighed. Her voice was light and sharp, feigning nonchalance.
"I didn't summon you, did I?" the Queen waved her hand and asked. "Don't answer that question."
Mrs. Gebenin blinked rapidly. She glanced at the table, wondering if there was any wine. Perhaps spirits, perhaps plum wine. Nothing. Except for a pot of unfamiliar tea.
Madame Göbelin tried hard not to frown. The Empress hadn't agreed to drink only Madame Göbelin's tea, but Madame Göbelin was still somewhat impatient. Who brewed this tea anyway? Why hadn't the Empress asked her to?
Has something happened? Does the Empress no longer like her?
"The tea has gone cold," the Empress suddenly said, pointing to the teapot.
I'll make you a fresh pot right away—
"I actually quite like the bitterness of this herbal tea," the Queen said.
She frowned and looked at Madam Ge Beining. Why was the maid so eager to please her today? Usually, she wouldn't be this obvious, but today Madam Ge Beining seemed rather impatient.
Something seemed to be bothering Madame Göbenin. But what could it be? Only two things were on her mind, and neither of them were things the Queen wanted to think about.
“If Your Majesty prefers cold tea, I have a few good options, but they are mainly too fruity and too sweet,” Mrs. Ge Bening said patiently with a polite smile.
"Hmm..." The Queen's voice gradually lowered. For some reason, she seemed somewhat unhappy to see Lady Ge Beining.
“No need,” she finally said. “You’d better go back to your room and embroider something, or practice your archery.”
The Queen examined the nail extensions on her slender fingers. They were long and sharp, like the claws of a tigress. Life was truly leisurely and boring these days… except for her second son looking down on her and her youngest daughter falling in love with a farmer.
"Who knows? Perhaps with enough training, you won't be as weak as the Crown Princess, just like you said that day."
Mrs. Gebenin wondered, "Is there really wine in this tea? The Queen must be drunk, otherwise why would she say such insulting things?"
Empress Ge Beining thought she had already forgiven herself for the previous false accusation. The Empress was not usually so petty, so why did she suddenly bring this up?
"Your Majesty, I will do as you wish, practicing day and night until I master the art of archery."
“You’ve got it,” the Queen suddenly said. She suddenly felt guilty towards Miss Ge Beining and changed her mind. This woman was raised by the Queen.
Madame Göbelin was the elegant and dutiful daughter the Queen had always desired but never attained. Her youngest daughter was noisy and prone to causing trouble. In contrast, her other two daughters were much quieter, but both were married. They had found suitable companions, but none of them had visited the Queen for a long time.
"Never mind, my mind is a bit muddled today, I don't know why," the Empress said calmly. "Never mind, even if my mind is so confused, I'll still send a eunuch to fetch her."
The Queen took her seat, poured herself another cup of cold tea, and brought it to her lips. She was well aware of the curiosity in Madame Gebenning's eyes.
"Madam Ge, I cannot say for sure."
Lady Geberin tried not to think that their conversation hadn't lasted long enough, and that this was the first time the Empress had formally addressed her during their conversation.
“Yes, Your Majesty…” Lady Gebenin replied with difficulty, performing her signature curtsy before taking her leave. But just as she turned away, her eyes suddenly widened.
Standing at the gate was Li Xueyue.
Lady Gebenin turned sharply to look at the Empress. What exactly did this betrayal mean?!
