Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble
Chapter 357 Miracle
Hu Dengxiao stood outside the door impatiently. He didn't speak for a while, because he knew that the prince was smart and knew how to dress. But time had passed and he hadn't walked out yet.
"Zhenzhen, are you done?!" Hu Dengxiao shouted anxiously.
The Crown Princess had just won the favor of the royal family. If she suddenly lost it, it would be troublesome.
Of course, it's normal for newlyweds to spend at least a week alone together, but they are royals. Something important had to be proven.
"Hurry up, Zhenzhen--" Hu Dengxiao was interrupted by the sound of the door opening. His eyes lit up, but he immediately regretted it.
"Ouch!" he cried, clutching the back of his head. The pain was searing, and he swore he was seeing double.
"What is this for, Your Highness?" he sobbed. Now he was sure there was a huge dent on the back of his round head.
"You are lucky that I didn't kill you." Yu Zhen roared.
Hu Dengxiao pouted. "But you still have the rest of your life to spend with the Crown Princess! Your Highness, the birth of nephews and nieces can wait."
"Of course you don't have to wait until you are executed." Yu Zhen hissed.
Hu Dengxiao was surprised by his words. He jumped back a few steps and turned his attention to the petite woman beside the prince.
Every time Hu Dengxiao saw Li Xueyue, he couldn't believe that she looked so fragile. But the Crown Princess is already one, isn't she?
This in itself was a miracle considering the Commander's stamina.
"Good morning, Princess!" chirped Hu Dengxiao. "Do you think we'll see the little prince and princess running around these halls soon?"
Li Xueyue laughed at his words, which annoyed Yu Zhen. Somehow, Hu Dengxiao reminded her of Li Wenmin. Maybe it was their unexpectedly wholesome antics, or maybe it was their sheer stupidity.
"You are indeed full of energy in the morning." Li Xueyue said.
Hu Dengxiao exclaimed, narrowly avoiding another slap on the head. “Oh, no, not even as good as our beloved prince—stop it! ”
"Zhenzhen, if you hit me again, my brain will get smaller and smaller!" Hu Dengxiao sighed.
"It's already the size of a peanut." Yu Zhen said expressionlessly.
Hu Dengxiao gasped sharply. He dramatically put his hands on his chest and frowned. "Your Highness, this is a lie. My brain is at least as big as a chestnut!"
"Says no one ever has."
Hu Dengxiao wanted to hide in a corner and cry. The crown prince was a bully.
"Zhenzhen, I won't argue with you anymore." Hu Dengxiao pouted angrily. He really wished he had asked Lu Tianbi to pass on the message.
"I'm here to warn you that the Emperor and Empress are coming soon and should be at the gate of the mansion now," he added.
Yu Zhen frowned when he heard the news. He had almost forgotten the terrible tradition practiced in the palace. You think, with how advanced Han Jian is, the royal family will not practice this ritual anymore.
"It's really annoying."
Li Xueyue blinked at him in confusion. She hadn't had time to ask why the emperor and the queen came to the mansion so early in the morning.
"Your Highness, don't keep them waiting for too long," said Hu Dengxiao.
Yu Zhen nodded. The sooner they greeted their parents, the faster they would go. He grabbed Li Xueyue’s hand.
"Come on," he whispered. "Let's go meet your terrible in-laws."
They just came back? There was a sudden knock on the door. She held her breath, knowing what was going to happen next.
"They move too fast for their age," Yu Zhen said through gritted teeth. He waved his hand. This was the signal for the eunuch to open the door.
"Inform His Majesty Han Jian Dainichi that His Royal Highness Renyue has arrived!" The eunuch announced loudly just as the gates slowly opened and the royal family appeared.
Li Xueyue was not prepared for this psychological warfare. Nevertheless, she put her hands aside and bowed.
"You can get up now," the emperor said with a light cough.
Li Xueyue looked up and saw an interesting sight. The emperor was accompanied by one or two servants. His weight was on them, and he looked exhausted.
She was worried about his health. She had expected him to be ill, but not to this extent.
The Empress, on the other hand, looked very healthy. There was no doubt that she would outlive her husband.
"It seems we have disturbed something," said the Queen, smiling. Her expression was pleasant, just like her small talk.
Li Xueyue was surprised that Yu Zhen ignored his mother. Despite the queen's gentle gaze, he didn't even look at her. Her lips parted in confusion. Did Yu Zhen not like his mother?
Her attention returned to the Queen. As expected, she looked disappointed... but with a hint of understanding. It was almost as if she knew Yu Zhen would react so coldly.
"Did the Crown Princess sleep well?" the Queen asked, deciding to turn her attention elsewhere. If her son didn't respond, she would target the thing he cared about most.
"Very good." Li Xueyue said with a smile.
The queen was caught off guard by the blunt response. In a palace full of exaggerated flattery and false smiles, Li Xueyue's honesty was refreshing. She let out a light laugh.
“Looks like I’m going to have grandchildren, too,” she joked.
Li Xueyue was glad that the queen understood the meaning of her words. It sounded shameless, but it was exactly what the royal family wanted.
Li Xueyue knew that they had doubts about her, especially after the incident a few days ago when the palace maids questioned the candidate's fertility.
"I really hope the child is healthy..." The Queen looked at the thin figure of the Crown Princess and her voice gradually tapered off.
Li Xueyue responded with a smile.
"Well, there is only one way," the Queen said, motioning a maid to come forward.
Li Xueyue blinked in confusion. What did the Queen mean by this?
"Queen," Yu Zhen warned, taking a threatening step closer.
The Queen pursed her lips, almost looking displeased at his expression. "It is tradition, my beloved son. You know I have no choice," she said softly.
Yu Zhen glared at her fiercely. This tradition might end with her generation.
"Besides, son, what else is there to hide?" the queen added. "Your reluctance is suspicious."
Li Xueyue was puzzled by their inner conflicts. What happened between the mother and son? The queen looked like a loving mother...
"Yu Zhen, back off," the emperor ordered in a stern but trembling voice. His illness had taken its toll on his body, but not his appearance. He was still the stern, cruel father.
"Let me."
The room suddenly became chilly. A gust of wind blew into the room, causing the temperature to drop sharply.
The tense atmosphere between the father and son made Li Xueyue tremble all over. She noticed the queen's worried eyes. For the first time, wrinkles appeared on the woman's face. It formed on her forehead and the corners of her mouth. The queen was afraid of this result.
“Yuzhen,” Li Xueyue whispered, placing her palm on his sleeve. But he shook off her gesture, surprising her. She tried not to look disappointed. Until he grabbed her hand and interlocked their fingers.
"This practice is disgusting." Yu Zhen complained.
"Your attitude has gotten worse," the emperor retorted, his body heaving violently as he suppressed a wet cough.
"Let's go." He ordered the maids.
The pretty servant took a timid step forward, but hesitated.
How can a man move when a tiger is staring at him? The maids were all worried about their pretty little heads.
Disobeying the emperor would result in whipping, while disobeying the prince would result in torture. They were caught in a dilemma.
Li Xueyue was bewildered. What had happened? She saw the fear in their eyes and understood who had caused it. She grabbed Yu Zhen's arm, almost as if to hold him back.
"It doesn't matter." She said suddenly. "Go."
Yu Zhen looked down at her. Was she serious? What if they didn’t find what they were looking for? What would happen to her? His grip on her hand tightened noticeably. He was protecting her. But she had entered the lion’s den of her own accord.
"It's tradition," she said, giving him an understanding smile.
Her eyes were gentle and clear. She really didn't mind his parents' behavior.
Yu Zhen’s brows knitted together. He wanted to argue with her, but he was powerless. Especially when she put her reputation at risk. He knew he should have checked before picking her up.
He nodded helplessly and sighed in defeat. He could have easily won this argument, but he chose not to. Instead, he lifted their entangled hands and kissed her knuckles.
This move surprised many people, including the emperor and the queen. They were speechless. It seemed that their eyes did not deceive them. Yu Zhen’s feelings for Li Xueyue were sincere. It was the first time they saw him so compromised.
Everyone else must have thought so, including the maids who threw down their blankets.
"Excellently?" the Queen asked, once she had recovered from her shock.
Li Xueyue was just as confused as they were. However, it was for a different reason. Why did the maid pull the sheets off the bed? What exactly happened?
"Is this the Crown Princess' first time???" asked the Queen.
