Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble
Chapter 140 The Day You Get Married
After dinner, Li Chenyang asked Li Xueyue for a plan. After receiving the degree, he and his father went into the private study, where tea was served. And because Li Chenyang was there, it was not a special prescription made by the Duchess. She didn't want her son to bear the troubles that only his father should bear.
"What is it?" King Li Chenyang asked curiously.
He took a sip of the fragrant black tea and sighed with satisfaction. The rich woody aroma had a miraculous effect on his fatigue and instantly sobered him up.
Lord Li Chenyang is exhausted from running the country almost alone. From checking agricultural reports in preparation for the fall to regulating trade with this continent and other countries. So far, everything is going well in Hajian.
Li Chenyang unfolded the parchment and placed it on his father's desk. "A business opportunity at the expense of the Arrogant Family."
"Kill two birds with one stone?" Li Chenyang thought for a moment and put the teacup on the table. He picked up the parchment and easily recognized Li Xueyue's messy handwriting.
“We should teach her to perfect her penmanship,” he joked.
Li Chenyang let out a small laugh. "Yes, it will do wonders for her."
King Li Chenyang snorted, interest flashing in his eyes. A minute or two passed, and soon he put the parchment on the table. "This is a unique plan."
Li Chenyang nodded in agreement. "This is Xueyue's idea. I promised you that if I let them fall, there will be benefits."
"Yes, I read the part about profiting from their failed business, but managing a seaport in a town that takes a week by carriage to reach is not an easy task," Duke Li Chenyang pointed out.
"We don't need to manage this business forever. When it can operate independently, we can sell it at a higher price, or we can entrust someone to manage it," said Li Chenyang.
King Li Chenyang snorted again, scratching his chin as he pondered his next move. "Yes, but you're talking too far into the future. First we need to address your immediate plans after acquiring their business. How will you keep it in order? Will you head to Hechen and stay there until business picks up? Or will Xueyue manage the business?"
Li Chenyang certainly saw the problem. He needed to hire someone very trustworthy to manage on their behalf. "Does this problem have to be solved now?"
“Yes, before executing a plan, we always have to consider how to address any obvious or potential failures in the plan,” Duke Li Chenyang suggested.
Li Chenyang sat on a sofa in the study and sighed softly. He crossed his legs and thought about how to solve this problem. Of course, he couldn't stay in Hechen for too long. He still had the duties of a minister to deal with, and one day, he would take over his father's position.
"We need to find someone trustworthy to manage this for us." Duke Li Chenyang explained. "It is impossible for our Xueyue to stay in a city where a carriage takes three days and a carriage takes a week. It is not safe for her, an unmarried woman, to travel alone."
Li Chenyang nodded slowly. "Yes, if we hand over the correct management rights to them, we will need someone who will not betray us."
Li Chenyang lamented that he had no ideas. "Each step takes a while to complete. Let's proceed according to the plan first and find solutions along the way."
King Li Chenyang raised an eyebrow. "I didn't teach you to be impatient, Chenyang."
"I know, Dad, it's just—"
“Think of a way first, and then I will help you get the agreement with the emperor’s seal.” Lord Li Chenyang made a bet.
Li Chenyang turned to his father calmly. "Are you talking about this?"
"Of course." Li Chenyanggong smiled. "Any opportunity to make money is welcome."
"Okay then, I'll talk to Xueyue about management matters." Li Chenyang stood up and said.
"I suggest asking about this tomorrow at breakfast. We can each express our opinions." Lord Li Chenyang folded the parchment in half and handed it back to Li Chenyang, who took it.
"I understand." Li Chenyang put the parchment in his pocket and walked towards the door. "Good night, Dad."
"Likewise."
"I hope you sleep in the master bedroom tonight instead of the guest room." Li Chenyang smiled and ran out the door without waiting for his father to scold him.
Li Chenyang straightened his clothes and rolled his eyes. "I can't wait until the day you get married and she does the same to you."
When the sound of Li Chenyang's footsteps disappeared, King Li Chenyang called out his right-hand man.
A man fell from the high ceiling and landed gently on the ground. As usual, he was dressed in black and his face was covered by a mask. The two grew up together, and the Ling family had been serving the Li family since the Duke could remember.
Whenever Li Chenyanggong had a secret mission, it was always Ling who carried it out. Originally his name was longer, just a simple character, but after failing to protect Li Minghua in the palace, Ling gave up his name as a punishment. Zhougong disagreed with such a punishment, but Ling insisted on doing it because of his failure.
Ling pulled the black mask down to his chin and lowered his head. "My Lord, you called?"
"Yes, have you looked around the palace? Have you found out in whose room the hairpin was found?" Lord Li Chenyang asked, referring to the hydrangea hairpin that once belonged to Li Minghua.
Ling nodded quickly. "Yes, it was found in the Queen's room."
Lord Li Chenyang raised his eyebrows. Of all the royal family members, he certainly didn't expect something like this to happen. "Are you sure about this?"
"I'm."
Prince Li Chenyang pursed his lips. "You once protected Li Minghua. Do you still remember the hairpin she wore when she left the capital and returned to Hechen?"
Ling blinked quickly, his face darkened and filled with uncertainty. The thought of another failure made his guilt surge in his heart.
"I don't remember..." He lowered his eyes and said regretfully.
King Li Chenyang nodded, a little disappointed with the answer, but did not show it. He knew that Ling was already punishing himself for his past failures, even though time had passed.
"I want you to find all the maids who have served Li Minghua, especially those who dressed her, and see if they still remember that when she returned to Hechen from the capital, they put a hydrangea hairpin in her hair."
If she was indeed wearing this dress in Hechen when she left the palace, it could only mean one thing: the Queen might have been involved in the fire.
It would be a difficult task, but nothing was too challenging for Lin. "Very well, my Lord."
Li Chenyang nodded with satisfaction. "And make sure they don't know who is asking these questions."
"understood."
"That's all for now, you're fired."
Ling bowed, saluted again, and then disappeared silently out the door.
Li Chenyang took out the key hidden under his clothes and opened a drawer. He didn't understand his actions, pulled out the hairpin, turned around, and looked frustrated. Closing his eyes, he was horrified to find that she was slowly turning into a blurry figure in his mind. Of course, there were some paintings that should resemble her, but none of them were so close to her real appearance.
