Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble
Chapter 120 Future Husband
Li Wenmin was speechless by her words. He didn't know what to say to her to ease the awkward atmosphere in the room.
He was careful not to make assumptions about the situation, but it was hard not to. "Do you know who your father is?"
"No." Li Xueyue admitted truthfully. "Look at me..." Her voice became smaller and smaller, and she couldn't finish her words.
"I..." Her voice was hoarse, and her eyes were tearing up with the unbearable truth. Her throat was tight, and her face was hot with embarrassment.
Li Xueyue couldn't admit that she was a mistake, the result of something that shouldn't have happened but did. The stain destroyed this perfect family. She should not have been born. She was an abandoned child, and her existence terrified both sides of the Bai family.
Li Wenmin knew how to put the pieces together. Either Viscount Mu Yihua was having an affair... or something unpleasant was forced upon him.
When her shoulders shook with the tears she was holding back, he jumped up from his chair and hugged her. "It's okay, you don't have to explain." He comforted her and hugged her tightly.
Li Xueyue had trouble breathing, and every breath came out like a choking gasp. She refused to cry. She was no longer a child. What could tears bring her? Absolutely nothing.
"No one will doubt you, Xiaoyue." Li Wenmin whispered in her ear. "As long as you are a third-rank princess, only a fool would question your legitimacy.
"Don't let it weigh you down. Don't blame yourself for your parents' sins. It's not your fault. It's never been your fault."
Li Xueyue nodded slowly. His words went in one ear and out the other. She wished she could believe him, but changing her mind wasn't easy. The only thing that could heal her was time, and she had everything in the world.
When he stepped back to wipe her face, he was surprised to find that her cheeks were dry. She was holding back tears. She didn't cry.
Li Wenmin breathed a sigh of relief, a faint smile on his face. "Xiaoyue, you are a fighter, I look forward to seeing you win."
"In what battle?"
"For justice," he declared in his most serious expression.
Li Xueyue, who was trying to liven up the atmosphere, smiled intermittently. "Brother Wen, you are so tacky."
His smile widened at the sound of her laughter. It warmed him from head to toe. He patted her head. "This isn't going to be an easy battle."
"I know."
"This can be dangerous."
"I know."
Li Wenmin rolled his eyes and flicked her forehead. In response, she flicked him back and broke free from his bear hug.
"Just so you know, we will always support you."
? Us? ” she repeated, looking up at him.
"I'll let you figure this out on your own." He smiled as she puffed her cheeks in dissatisfaction with his reaction.
"You look like a hungry hamster." He snorted, poking both cheeks to pop them out. "You're lucky dinner's ready."
"I always find it funny that you're the one who tells me everything is ready."
"That's because I want to eat the most." Li Wenmin snickered. "And you are the second."
Li Xueyue laughed at his words. "I have been negatively influenced by you."
"More like I inspired your gluttony," he scoffed as the two of them walked down the hallway that led to the main dining room.

royal palace.
Yu Zhen handed his horse over to the security personnel before walking back to the guest palace tiredly. He despised everything there. Of course, his men were guarding him, but the gold and boring decorations made him feel uneasy at the end. The least Wuyi could do was to stop their designs from being so unnecessarily gorgeous.
Yu Zhen walked leisurely in the quiet corridor leading to the guest palace. At a large arch entrance, he stopped and sighed. "Your tracking ability is too poor."
Wen Jinkai stepped out of the shadows. Even as he stepped on the crunchy grass and stubbled cobblestones, he made no sound. "What gave it away?"
"I'm surprised you can actually have a normal conversation!" Yu Zhen sneered and turned to face the man.
There was nothing to light their way except the lantern lights scattered throughout the area. Guards lined the road, but their loyalty was questionable. Were they Han Jian's men? Or were they Wu Yi's soldiers?
A gust of eerie wind blew past them, Yu Zhen's robe fluttering in the wind, and Wen Jinkai's sleeves also fluttered in the wind.
Wen Jinkai glanced around and his scrutinizing gaze rested on the soldiers.
"Did Han Jian teach you to fight with words instead of swords?" Wen Jinkai asked, his hands behind his back. He walked leisurely in front of Yu Zhen, whose hands rested comfortably on the sword, a typical warrior posture.
"Cold Sword teaches etiquette." Yu Zhen's mouth curled up, "It's what Wuyi soldiers lack the most."
Wen Jinkai's expression remained calm. He would not be angered by words. They were just a wisp of air, not a destructive weapon. What was there to be depressed about?
"Is this the best you can do? Insult the country that feeds you and provides you with a roof over your head?" Wen Jinkai asked calmly.
Yu Zhen heard Wen Jinkai's comments, covered his mouth and yawned. "What a boring return."
He almost rolled his eyes. It’s not like he had nowhere to go. He could buy as many estates as he wanted, but he saw no need to build a shelter on enemy land.
Wen Jinkai's chin trembled at the disrespect. "I prefer to have a conversation through the sword."
"We are in civilized land." Yu Zhen looked expressionless and looked at the soldiers on the roadside in disbelief. He finally concluded that they were a mixture of traitors and Wuyi soldiers, mostly to prevent anyone from spying.
“If you want to fight, you should leave a note.” Yu Zhen was tired of this seemingly useless argument. He decided to straighten up and go back to his room. He had more important things to do instead of wasting time on Wen Jinkai.
"I have places to go and duties to perform. Let's not prolong this conversation too long." Wen Jinkai said. "When your little princess is in the capital, you are also in the capital."
Yu Zhen paused. Finally, they got to the topic of discussion. "So?"
“Where are the candidates?”
Yu Zhen looked incredulous. "Do you think I look like her warden?"
"No, but you are her only friend. Her sister is far away in River City, working for another general." Wen Jinkai said, crossing his arms. "He Chen's people have already escaped."
Yu Zhen's indifferent expression moved. The princess ran away? He gritted his teeth, damn it. His father would be furious because of this.
Of course, one of the princesses was smart enough to know that the quickest and shortest route to Hanjian was through Hechen. Normally it would take at least two weeks to ride a horse from the capital to Hanjian, but it would take less than a week to get from Hechen to Hanjian.
Yu Zhen shrugged. "That worries me because...?"
"You see, the general actually likes the other princess better. He doesn't care about the one who ran away from his house. He's willing to not cause any trouble if he gets the princess he's always wanted."
Yu Zhen’s indifferent smile was about to break. He knew where things were going. That damn Yu Xiyan. Is this what she wanted to tell him when they met in the imperial capital? Is she willing to trade her future husband? Of course, any man is better than Wen Jinkai, the battlefield demon lord.
"But," Wen Jinkai said halfway, with a sinister smile on his face, "I sold your sister to him like a beast."
Yu Zhen narrowed his eyes. "Are you so short of money that you have to sell the rest of your stuff?"
Wen Jinkai did not give in. He raised his head and let out a howl that sent chills down the spines of everyone present, except Yu Zhen. "Money is the last thing I'm worried about."
“It seems not.” Yu Zhen sneered in disgust, and the temperature around him dropped sharply. A shocking thunder sounded in the background. Although spring is approaching, the air here is below freezing.
"Yu Zhen, I will tell you simply and clearly, because you obviously lack the common sense to understand a simple fact: Li Xueyue is mine and will always be mine, no matter what the consequences," Wen Jinkai explained.
He smiled. "Without your annoying sister dragging me down, I can marry Li Xueyue as I please."
“I know it now.” Yu Zhen knocked his fist against his palm and nodded firmly. Revelation fell on his face.
Wen Jinkai narrowed his eyes, full of doubt. He didn't believe that Yu Zhen would give in so easily.
"I thought it was some coward who asked King Li for Xueyue. It turns out that it was you all along!" Yu Zhen laughed heartily, coldly, giving goose bumps on the soldiers' forearms. He clapped his hands, and his laughter was mocking Wen Jinkai, indeed.
On the morning of Ning Huabing's birthday, he came to see Li Chenyang with the intention of proposing to Li Xueyue. He wanted to warn his friend before approaching the Duke, but things escalated into another matter, and a huge dispute ensued. In the end, the Duke rejected Wen Jinkai's request and said that he should not let Li Xueyue go like a livestock.
