Quick Wear: Passerby A's Daily Life of Eating Watermelons
Chapter 12: A stranger in the spy world of the Republic of China
In a blink of an eye, three years have passed, and Chen Xin and Jiang Yue have not fulfilled their promise to Chen's mother to go back home once a year. They have only sent a few letters back, but they don't know whether Chen's mother received them.
The Chen family's business was getting worse and worse, due to both natural disasters and man-made calamities. Chen Xin was just struggling to hold on. Jiang Yue's business was not doing well either. The economy of Shanghai as a whole had declined a lot. Jiang Yue, who was already 30 years old, squinted her eyes and leaned back in her chair, listening to the apprentice next to her reciting the soup recipe song. When she made a mistake, Jiang Yue would gently hit her palm with a ruler.
The little apprentice was picked up on the roadside when Jiang Yue opened the store one day. She was an orphan who lost her parents in the war. Jiang Yue accepted her as his apprentice, thinking of passing on his medical skills. At this moment, Chen Xin walked in with an anxious look on his face and winked at Jiang Yue. Jiang Yue knew that someone was injured again. Jiang Yue asked the little apprentice and someone brought by Chen Xin to look after the store, and followed Chen Xin through twists and turns and came to a small alley.
Chen Xin knocked on the door in a specific way. The person inside stuck his head out and looked around, then opened the door and asked them to go in quickly. After they went in, they saw a person lying on the bed covered in blood. Jiang Yue hurried forward to take a look, frowned and said, "No, the injury is too severe. I can't handle it. We have to go to the hospital."
"Just make sure the injury doesn't get worse. It's too severe to be transferred now."
Jiang Yue took out the medical kit from the secret compartment and began to treat the injury. After a while, the bleeding finally stopped. After feeding some medicine, Jiang Yue took off her clothes. Chen Xin put the clothes away and destroyed them to prevent Jiang Yue from being implicated. He took out a simple stretcher, carried the person on it and said, "Don't come to this place again. It's not safe anymore."
Jiang Yue nodded, and Chen Xin asked another companion to send Jiang Yue out. Jiang Yue went to a nearby hotel to pick up the packed meals, so that if someone found out that she was not in the store and questioned her, the itinerary would be consistent.
After returning, the person pretending to be Jiang Yue removed his disguise, bought some medicinal herbs and went out. Jiang Yue took out a plate of incense from the medicine cabinet and lit it. The smell of medicine and incense could cover up the bloody smell on his body.
Jiang Yue opened the lunch box, finished his meal with his young apprentice, returned the lunch box to the restaurant and talked to the owner for a while. Nothing happened after he returned to the shop. As soon as it was evening, Jiang Yue closed the shop and took his apprentice home.
After returning home, Aunt Fang started to cook dinner. After dinner, Aunt Fang took her little apprentice for a walk. Jiang Yue went to the study and reviewed what he had done today. There should be no loopholes. He also destroyed another safe house. After a few years, there were only a few safe houses left that Jiang Yue had purchased. These remaining ones were kept for his own refuge, as the others had been used up long ago.
The safe houses for the past one or two years were all prepared by Chen Xin. The situation is becoming more and more serious. The medicines in Jiang Yue's space are almost used up, and Chen Xin can't buy any recently. They haven't been replenished for a long time, so they need to be used sparingly.
Jiang Yue originally wanted to go to Hong Kong to visit Chen's father and mother and master, and to replenish some supplies. Unfortunately, there were too few tickets. It was blocked in the past two years, and some were relaxed this year. Chen Xin was still communicating with the ferry company, and didn't know if he could buy a ticket.
After reading for a while, Aunt Fang and the little apprentice came back. The little apprentice came to the study to find Jiang Yue and started to recite the text. As a newcomer, all he had to do was recite the text. After a while, it was getting late, so Jiang Yue arranged for the little apprentice to go to bed. Jiang Yue talked with Aunt Fang for a while and then went to bed.
Tonight was destined to be restless. Jiang Yue was sleeping soundly in the middle of the night when she heard the phone ringing. Jiang Yue's heart skipped a beat. Could it be that something happened to Chen Xin? She picked up the phone and said, "Xiao Yue, I was shot! In the safe house closest to your home."
Jiang Yue quickly got up, changed clothes, took out a set of black clothes from the space, whispered something to Aunt Fang, opened the window, climbed over the wall and went out. In the past few years, Chen Xin also gave Jiang Yue some training, and Jiang Yue also insisted on physical exercise, otherwise he would not be able to do this. He hid in the safe house and knocked on the door according to the prescribed method.
After waiting for a while, Chen Xin opened the door from the inside, and the two entered the basement of the room, where Jiang Yue had built a simple operating table. Seeing that Chen Xin's arms were covered in blood, he quickly let Chen Xin lie on the operating table. He saw that both arms were shot, gave him anesthesia, and then started to remove the bullets.
After the bullet was removed and the stitches were done, Jiang Yue asked Chen Xin, "Why did you get so angry with him?"
"I escorted the injured man out of the city today, but I didn't expect to be blocked. I think he was betrayed."
"What about you? Are you exposed?"
Chen Xin's face was full of tears: "No, I didn't show up. I and the person who went to your store today protected you in secret, but there were too many enemies and everyone else died."
Jiang Yue took out a handkerchief to wipe Chen Xin's tears, held her head in her arms, listened to her suppressed crying, and didn't know how to comfort her, so she could only accompany her silently.
When it was almost dawn, Jiang Yue quietly returned home. Chen Xin stayed in the safe house by herself, waiting for dawn to find a suitable time to go home. When she returned, Aunt Fang was not asleep. Seeing Jiang Yue coming back, she quickly asked her to take a shower, and she went to make dinner. While eating, Aunt Fang whispered, "Did something happen to Xiaoxin?"
Jiang Yue nodded gently and said, "Don't worry, Aunt Fang, everything is fine now." After dinner, Jiang Yue took her apprentice to work as usual. At noon, Chen Xin called the store to report that she was safe and said in a code word that they should not contact each other for the time being and that she would contact her after she was sure she was safe.
Nothing major happened in the next half month. When it was almost time to get off work that day, Chen Xin drove over to pick up Jiang Yue. They went to Chen's house and had a meal. After the meal, he sent Jiang Yue home. Today was to send a signal that everything was safe.
After returning home, Jiang Yue took a bath and laughed at herself: "I am just an ordinary person, but I have turned myself into a supporting actress."
After taking a shower, I went to read. It has become a habit to read for a while every day. Now I am reading the pulse cases recorded by my senior brothers. There are obviously more treatment plans for injuries recently. It seems that things are not going well with my senior brothers.
After reading the pulse case of the senior brother, Jiang Yue looked up and saw that it was already half past ten in the evening. He stretched his body for a while and went back to his room to sleep.
The next morning, while eating breakfast, Aunt Fang whispered to Jiang Yue, "There are a lot more strangers around here recently, wandering around the streets every day, and there are also many unfamiliar vendors."
Jiang Yue asked Aunt Fang how she found out, and Aunt Fang said, "I take my children there every day, and there are always the same few people, but the vendors' stalls have changed and the children have changed."
Jiang Yue nodded to indicate that she had remembered it, and reminded Aunt Fang to go out less often in the next few days, buy more vegetables every day, and not take the children out recently, but just walk around the yard.
