Traveling through the Tang Dynasty: The Concubine Goes to War

Chapter 29 Why Did the Queen Dare to Poison the Emperor?

Last time we talked about how the emperor actually found out who dared to poison him, and that person turned out to be the queen who usually looked weak and indifferent to worldly affairs!

The emperor's anger was instantly ignited. He widened his eyes and asked the queen angrily: "Why do you want to poison me? I treat you well every day. What are your intentions?" The queen was frightened and her face turned pale and her whole body trembled, but she bit her lip and said nothing.

The emperor was furious when he saw this. He grabbed the queen by the collar, pulled her close to him, and shouted, "Speak! Otherwise, I will never tolerate it!"

Tears welled up in the queen's eyes, and her beautiful but haggard face was filled with sorrow and despair. Finally, she could no longer suppress her inner grief, and her tears burst out like a broken dam, accompanied by a burst of heart-wrenching sobs. She shouted in grief and anger: "That's right! It was I who poisoned you! I hate you! Do you really think you treat me so well? Let me tell you, you only showed me a little mercy because I did my best to raise the prince..." Her voice trembled, filled with endless pain and resentment.

"Since you ascended the throne, have you ever really cared about me? Before you there was Concubine Li, and after you there was Zhang Chongrong. And ever since Yang Yunxi entered the palace, you have completely put me aside. If my father had not been the prime minister before, you would have replaced me long ago! In order to secure my position as queen, my father made friends with foreign ministers, but was accused of treason and thrown into jail by you, and I could only watch all this happen, powerless to do anything!" The queen became more and more excited as she spoke, and the anger in her eyes seemed to burn the entire palace.

"Shut up!" the emperor shouted angrily, "How dare you accuse me like that! Your father formed a clique for personal gain, collaborated with the enemy and betrayed his country, he deserves to be put to death!"

The queen sneered, "You deserve to die! What about me? I have devoted so many years of my youth to you, and what did you get in the end?"

The emperor frowned tightly, a trace of guilt flashed in his eyes, but it was quickly covered by anger, "Enough! Stop being unreasonable! I won't kill you because you have done your best to raise the prince, but from now on, you will reflect on your mistakes in the cold palace!"

After saying this, the emperor walked away, leaving the queen collapsed on the ground, tears streaming down her face.

In the cold palace, the queen sat alone in front of the window, looking at the bright moon outside the window, feeling sad. She knew that she might never be able to leave the cold palace again in her life. But she did not regret it, because she said what she had been holding in her heart.

In the Imperial Concubine's Mansion outside the palace, Yang Yunxi was shocked when she learned that the queen had been banished to the cold palace. She widened her eyes, shook her head in disbelief, and muttered to herself, "How could this happen? The queen was banished to the cold palace... This is really unexpected!"

Yang Yunxi couldn't help but sigh at the impermanence and unpredictability of the world. She originally thought that the queen's position was stable and she was deeply favored by the emperor, but who could have expected that she would suffer such a misfortune now. She thought of every bit of her interactions with the queen, and a sense of sadness surged in her heart. The queen's demeanor, wisdom and kindness left a deep impression on her, but now she can only spend the rest of her life in the cold palace.

Yang Yunxi fell into deep thought, and she began to think about the cruelty of power struggles and the hypocrisy of palace life. In this seemingly prosperous and wealthy palace, everyone is fighting for their own interests, and family, friendship and even love may become victims. She realized that even if she is in a high position, she cannot be careless, because a moment of negligence or mistake may lead to irreparable consequences.

Yang Yunxi stood there quietly, gazing at the majestic palace in the distance. Her eyes revealed a deep thought and worry, as if the whole world was frozen at this moment. She knew very well that the prince's future was full of countless variables and challenges...

Yang Yunxi secretly made up her mind that for the prince's future, she would move forward more cautiously and no longer be swayed by the various temptations from the outside world.

After the Emperor banished the Queen to the cold palace, he immediately summoned Yunxi to the palace. He sat on the dragon throne, looking expectantly at the still beautiful woman in front of him, and said in a calm but dignified tone: "Now that the Queen has been banished to the cold palace for poisoning me, there is no place for her in this palace. However, the prince is still young and needs someone to take care of and teach him. After thinking about it, I still hope that you can return to the palace, perhaps you can return to the palace in another identity and teach him well for me. In addition, I will give you an imperial token so that you can enter and leave the palace freely."

Yunxi was secretly surprised when she heard the emperor's words. She originally thought that the emperor summoned her just to ask some questions, but she didn't expect it to be such an unexpected request.

She knew very well how complicated and dangerous the life in the palace was, but she could not directly reject the emperor's will. So, she lowered her head and pondered for a moment, then raised her head, a trace of determination flashed in her eyes, and she replied softly: "Thank you for your kindness, Your Majesty. I am willing to return to the palace to serve the prince. But I also have a small request, and I hope Your Majesty can agree to it."

The emperor frowned slightly and asked, "What is your request? Tell me about it."

Yunxi took a deep breath and mustered up her courage to say, "I hope to visit the Queen before returning to the palace. After all, she was once the mother of a country. Although she made mistakes, I believe that she still loves the prince deep in her heart. I want to learn from her about the prince's habits and preferences so that I can take better care of him."

The emperor was silent for a moment, as if thinking about Yunxi's request. Finally, he nodded and agreed to Yunxi's request. "Okay, I agree. You can go to the cold palace to visit the queen, but the time should not be too long. Remember, you are now the prince's tutor, and you must put the prince's interests first."

Yunxi was filled with gratitude and knelt down to kowtow. Then, she stood up and left the palace and headed for the cold palace. Along the way, she felt heavy-hearted and didn't know how to face the once glorious queen. At this moment, the queen in the cold palace was silently looking at the sky outside the window, her heart filled with despair and regret...

Yunxi came to the cold palace and saw the haggard face of the queen, and she couldn't help but feel a trace of pity in her heart. The queen looked up at Yunxi, and a trace of surprise and resentment flashed in her eyes.

"What are you doing here? Are you here to laugh at me?" the queen said coldly.

Yunxi shook her head gently, "I'm not here to laugh at you, I'm here to ask you how to better take care of the prince."

The queen smiled bitterly and said, "I am a useless person now, what qualifications do I have to teach you?"

Yunxi said sincerely, "You are the prince's mother. You have done your best to raise him. You know him better than anyone else. I believe your advice will be of great help to me."

The queen hesitated for a moment, but finally told Yunxi some of the prince's habits and preferences. Yunxi listened carefully and nodded from time to time.

After leaving the cold palace, Yunxi was filled with mixed feelings. She decided to take good care of the prince for the rest of her life and let him grow up healthily.

On this morning, the sun was shining brightly, the breeze was blowing, and the palace was filled with a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. In the prince's bedroom, Yunxi, dressed in a gorgeous palace dress, walked into the room lightly. Her eyes fell on the prince in front of her, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of intimacy in her heart.

The prince still maintained his innocence and loveliness, and his smile was as warm as the spring sun. Compared with the past, the prince had grown taller and his body had become stronger and more solid.

His eyes revealed intelligence and curiosity about the world, as if there were endless questions waiting to be answered.

Yunxi looked at the prince quietly, her eyes full of tenderness and care.

She recalled the warm times she had spent with the prince, and those happy memories flashed through her mind like beautiful pictures.

Standing in front of the prince, Yunxi felt that she had an important responsibility. She knew that the prince would shoulder the heavy responsibility of the country in the future and become a wise ruler. Therefore, she was determined to do her best to assist the prince, teach him knowledge, cultivate his character and wisdom, and help him become an outstanding leader in the future. Yunxi walked to the prince with a smile and gently stroked his hair, "Your Highness, today we are going to learn how to govern the country." The prince blinked his bright eyes and looked at Yunxi expectantly.

Yunxi began to talk about famous emperors and wise ministers in history, as well as their strategies for governing a country. The prince listened with great interest, asking questions from time to time, and Yunxi patiently answered them.

Time passed quietly, and in the blink of an eye it was already evening. The afterglow of the setting sun fell on the windowsill, illuminating a golden glow. Yunxi and the prince walked out of the palace together and strolled in the courtyard. The prince excitedly shared his insights on governing the country, and Yunxi listened, affirmed and encouraged him.

During this wonderful time, Yunxi's relationship with the prince became closer and closer. She witnessed the prince's growth and was proud of his progress.

Since Yunxi returned to the palace, the emperor has paid more attention to the prince. After every court session, he always couldn't wait to go to the East Palace, as if there was something there that he was worried about. Sometimes, he would stay in the East Palace for a long time, and even stay to have meals together. Such behavior surprised everyone, because before this, the emperor rarely went in and out of the East Palace so frequently.

People in the palace began to speculate about the emperor's intentions. Some said that the emperor often came to teach the prince because he cared about his studies and moral cultivation; others thought that the emperor might want to cultivate a father-son relationship by getting close to the prince. However, only a few people knew that the reason why the emperor paid so much attention to the prince was actually because of Yunxi.

Yunxi used to be the emperor's favorite concubine. After she returned to the palace, she has been living in the East Palace. The emperor has always been obsessed with her and visits her almost every day. As time goes by, the emperor pays more and more attention to the prince. The reason is self-evident. Perhaps the emperor hopes to better understand Yunxi's living conditions through contact with the prince; or he wants to take this opportunity to cultivate the relationship between father and son.

Whatever the reason, the emperor's actions have attracted widespread attention inside and outside the palace. Ministers have been discussing the emperor's attention to the prince, while other princes and princesses have been secretly competing to win the emperor's favor. In this palace full of power and struggle, everyone is thinking about their own future. And the prince, under the emperor's care, thrives.

That night, the moonlight was as bright as silver, and everything was silent. His Majesty, dressed in a gorgeous dragon robe, walked steadily towards the prince's bedroom. However, at this moment, the prince had already fallen asleep. Perhaps he was too tired from playing and having fun during the day, so he went to bed early and got up early, and had already fallen into a deep sleep.

Yunxi sat quietly beside the bed, her eyes gently and attentively on the sleeping prince. She gently stroked the prince's forehead, feeling his calm breathing and peaceful face. However, Yunxi did not notice the emperor's arrival, she was completely immersed in her love and protection for the prince. The emperor walked into the room and saw Yunxi and the prince, and a warm feeling surged in his heart. He walked softly to Yunxi and motioned her to go out with him. Yunxi followed the emperor to the outside of the palace in confusion.

The emperor looked up at the bright, flawless moon in the sky, emitting a cool and brilliant light, and could not help but sigh: "Yunxi! I know that you have devoted all your efforts and painstaking efforts to the crown prince. I am very pleased that you can return to the palace to take good care of the crown prince this time!"

Hearing this, Yunxi's heart trembled slightly, but she did not say anything. She just nodded and lowered her brows, standing quietly there, silently waiting for the emperor's next words.

The emperor seemed to see through her thoughts and continued, "In fact, deep in my heart, I really want you to stay by my side and be my favorite concubine. However, I also know that this is probably just an unattainable luxury..." At this point, the emperor's voice was slightly lower, revealing a hint of helplessness and melancholy. Yunxi listened to the emperor's words quietly, with mixed feelings in her heart. She knew that the emperor still had feelings for her, but she also knew her identity and responsibilities.

"Your Majesty, I thank you for your kindness. But I am now the prince's tutor, and my responsibility is to teach the prince and accompany him as he grows up." Yunxi declined.

The emperor sighed, "I understand your intention. Well, since you have made your choice, I will not force you. But, I hope you can come and accompany me from time to time."

Yunxi nodded, "I will."

The two looked at each other in silence, and the atmosphere seemed a little awkward. At this time, the emperor broke the silence and said, "It's getting late, go to bed early."

Yunxi bowed and returned to her bedroom. The emperor looked at her leaving, and although he felt reluctant, he could only shake his head helplessly.

Time flies, Yunxi teaches the prince knowledge and skills wholeheartedly, while the emperor silently watches their every move behind the scenes.

However, under the seemingly peaceful surface of the palace, the power struggle is gradually intensifying. Some people with ulterior motives and ill intentions begin to secretly plot and plan, trying to use the prince to realize their own hidden ambitions and goals...
