Traveling through the Tang Dynasty: The Concubine Goes to War

Chapter 12: Zhaxi temporarily stays in the Central Plains

Last time we talked about Zhaxi telling Yunxi about her love for Han Xuan, and Yunxi advised her that emotions cannot be controlled at will.

Zhaxi asked Yunxi to give her some more time, because she had not had a good look at the customs of the people in the Central Plains since she came here. Zhaxi's eyes revealed sincerity, and he held Yunxi's hands tightly with both hands, and said earnestly: "Yunxi, please give me some time to let me appreciate the folk customs of the Central Plains." Yunxi looked at Zhaxi, felt her desire, and nodded with a smile.

Accompanied by Yunxi, Tashi strolled along the ancient streets of the Central Plains. She was attracted by the scene before her. The street stalls were filled with all kinds of handicrafts, and folk artists displayed their unique skills. Tashi was immersed in the rich cultural atmosphere, communicating with the local people, and feeling their enthusiasm and simplicity.

She attended a traditional folk festival, where people dressed in colorful costumes, sang and danced. Tashi also joined in, sharing the joy with everyone. She tasted the local specialties, each dish of which contained a deep historical and cultural heritage.

Through the experience during this period, Zhaxi has a deeper understanding of Central Plains and has developed a deeper emotional bond with Yunxi.

On a sunny day, Tashi strolled along the bustling streets of the capital. She was dressed in traditional Korean national costumes, and her unique style attracted the attention of many passers-by.

Suddenly, Zhaxi's eyes were attracted by a handsome and majestic imperial guard. The guard was Shangguan Yu, who was tall and straight, with a majestic demeanor, wearing a brocade robe embroidered with gorgeous patterns, and with a sword at his waist, he looked even more heroic.

Shangguan Yu also noticed Zhaxi, and a hint of curiosity flashed in his eyes. The two people's eyes met, as if a special tacit understanding was formed in an instant. They unconsciously approached each other and greeted each other with a smile.

Zhaxi was attracted by Shangguan Yu's temperament, and he felt a kind of intimacy and warmth that he had never felt before. Shangguan Yu also developed a strong interest in Zhaxi's unique charm, and he liked Zhaxi's innocence and kindness.

In the following days, Zhaxi and Shangguan Yu strolled through the streets and alleys of the capital, savoring the charm of the ancient city. They exchanged their stories and experiences, and shared their insights into life. Their affection for each other gradually deepened, as if a beautiful fate was unfolding.

However, they are all aware of their identities and responsibilities. Tashi has his duty as the imperial guard, and he also has his own mission. Although they have unspeakable emotions in their hearts, they all understand that this affection may only be hidden in their hearts.

As time goes by, Zhaxi and Shangguan Yu have to part ways. But they know that this meeting will become a precious memory in their hearts, and that goodwill will turn into a faint longing, and will remain in each other's hearts forever.

In the days after they separated, Zhaxi and Shangguan Yu both devoted themselves to their respective work and lives.

One day, the emperor was assassinated and Shangguan Yu was injured while protecting him.

When Zhaxi learned about this, he was extremely anxious.

Regardless of the danger, she disguised herself and sneaked into the palace to visit Shangguan Yu by mixing with the imperial kitchen while he was buying groceries.

In Shangguan Yu's residence, Zhaxi saw him lying on the bed with a pale face.

Zhaxi took care of him silently, changing the dressings for him and cooking porridge for him.

When Shangguan Yu woke up, he was deeply moved by what Zhaxi had done for him.

The feelings between the two men heated up at this moment, however, they were well aware of the complexity and dangers in the palace.

They decided to keep this feeling deep in their hearts to protect each other.

After recovering from his injuries, Shangguan Yu returned to the imperial court and Zhaxi returned to the general's mansion.

Although they cannot be together, they both understand that this relationship will become the most precious treasure in their lives.

As the days passed, Shangguan Yu and Zhaxi tried hard to control their emotions. However, fate always plays tricks on people.

By chance, Shangguan Yu and Zhaxi met again. Zhaxi was about to leave the capital and return to Goryeo, while Shangguan Yu was ordered to escort a batch of valuables to Goryeo.

Along the way, they accompanied each other, faced various difficulties and challenges together, and their feelings grew deeper without them realizing it.

During the long journey, Shangguan Yu and Zhaxi finally couldn't help but express their feelings to each other. They decided to put aside their identities and responsibilities and bravely pursue their own happiness.

However, their love journey will not be smooth sailing. The power and conspiracy in the court constantly threaten their safety.

But Shangguan Yu and Zhaxi firmly believe that as long as they support each other, they will be able to overcome all difficulties and make it to the end.

After arriving in Goryeo, Shangguan Yu and Tashi's relationship became stronger. However, their love was envied and schemed by people in the court. These people falsely accused Shangguan Yu's superiors of colluding with the princess of the enemy country and attempting treason.

The emperor was furious and ordered Shangguan Yu to be detained pending trial. Zhaxi was extremely anxious and decided to stand up and prove Shangguan Yu's innocence. She ran around collecting evidence and even risked sneaking into the palace secret library to look for key clues.

With Zhaxi's efforts, the truth gradually surfaced. It turned out that everything was a trap set by the mastermind behind the assassination in order to eliminate Shangguan Yu, the stumbling block.

In the end, Zhaxi successfully found solid evidence and rescued Shangguan Yu from the predicament. After going through hardships, the two cherished each other more. However, due to his duty, Shangguan Yu had to continue to stay in the palace to protect the emperor. Zhaxi continued to stay temporarily in the general's mansion.

Seeing Tashi fall into Shangguan Yu's arms, Han Xuan was filled with mixed feelings. In Han Xuan's heart, his feelings for Tashi were still deep and complicated. Whenever he recalled the time he spent with Tashi, Han Xuan's eyes revealed a hint of tenderness and attachment.

They had experienced many wonderful moments together, and those laughter and tears have become Han Xuan's precious memories. Although time has passed and things have changed, Zhaxi's shadow is still clearly visible in Han Xuan's heart.

Han Xuan silently treasured this feeling, it was like a treasure buried deep in his heart, occasionally being quietly flipped through in the dead of night. Perhaps, this feeling could never be expressed in words, but it would leave a deep mark in Han Xuan's life.

On a sunny afternoon, Yunxi noticed that Han Xuan seemed to be in a low mood. His originally bright eyes became dim, as if shrouded by a layer of haze. Han Xuan sat silently in the corner, motionless, as if isolated from the world around him.

Yunxi felt a surge of concern in her heart. She walked softly to Han Xuan and asked with concern: "Han Xuan, what's wrong with you? Are you worried about something?"

Han Xuan raised his head and looked at Yunxi, with a hint of helplessness and bitterness in his eyes. He murmured, "When I found out that Zhaxi loved someone else, I felt very sad. But it's obviously you I love."

Yunxi frowned slightly. She could understand Han Xuan's feelings. Love always makes people sensitive and fragile, especially when they know that the person they like already has someone else, the loss and pain are indescribable.

She gently patted Han Xuan's shoulder and comforted him, "Han Xuan, emotional matters are hard to predict. You have experienced life and death before. Maybe I should have helped you back then, but I came from another world, so I can't be so magnanimous."

Han Xuan was silent for a while, then nodded slowly. Although Yunxi's words were gentle, they were like a stream of clear water, which slightly calmed the depression in his heart.

Yunxi smiled and said, "Don't let this matter affect your mood. Let's go out for a walk together to change our mood."

Han Xuan looked at Yunxi gratefully, stood up, and walked out of the room with her. The sun shone on them, warm and soft. Yunxi and Han Xuan strolled in the garden, enjoying the beauty of nature. They talked about every little thing in life and shared each other's joys and sorrows.

Gradually, Han Xuan's mood became cheerful, and he realized that although love may bring pain, there are many other things in life that are worth cherishing. He was very grateful for Yunxi's company and care, and decided to let go of his worries and embrace a better life again.

One day, in the magnificent general's mansion, Yunxi sat quietly by the bed, holding the doctor's diagnosis in her hand, tears rolling down like beads from a broken string. Her eyes were full of despair and pain, because she learned that she was pregnant, but because of the old injuries left from fighting on the frontier, the doctor advised her not to have the child.

Yunxi's heart was torn apart. She had fought bravely for her country and the peace of the border, but she had never thought that this would bring her such a heavy price. The unborn child should have been the joy and hope of her life, but now it has become an unbearable pain in her heart.

She recalled the battle scenes, the bloody scenes, the fierce fighting, and the days when she fought bravely with Han Xuan and other soldiers. She had paid too much for the country and for justice, but now she had to face the reality of losing her child.

Yunxi's tears soaked her clothes, and she was so heartbroken that she couldn't breathe. She knew that the doctor's advice was out of consideration for her health, but as a mother, how could she easily give up her child? In this painful choice, Yunxi felt helpless and confused.

However, Yunxi's strength and courage were not drowned by tears. She knew that no matter how painful it was, she had to make a decision for the future of herself and her child. She would follow the advice of the imperial physician and take good care of her body, because she had a more important mission waiting for her to complete.

After a few days of thinking, Yunxi decided to accept the doctor's advice. She hugged herself tightly, cried silently, and said goodbye to the baby in her belly. She took the medicine Xiaowan had boiled from the doctor and drank it all. Although her heart was full of pain, she knew that this was for the future of herself and her child.

In order not to make Han Xuan sad, she concealed the fact that she was pregnant but could not keep the child from him, and she also asked the imperial physician and servants to keep it secret.

On a quiet afternoon, the sun shone through the window into the room, and Princess Zhaxi and Han Xuan sat together chatting. Inadvertently, Princess Zhaxi's topic turned to the past, and her voice became soft, as if with a hint of apology.

"Han Xuan, there is something I have always wanted to tell you, but I have never found the right opportunity. In fact, Yunxi was once pregnant..." Princess Zhaxi's eyes flashed with a look of hesitation.

An expression of surprise appeared on Han Xuan's face, and he listened quietly to Princess Tashi continue speaking.

"But I don't know much about the situation at that time. I only know that Yunxi couldn't give birth to the child, and she aborted the child when you went out to do things... She also didn't let any of the servants tell you. After thinking it over, I decided to tell you." Princess Zhaxi's voice trembled a little.

After hearing what Zhaxi said, he thought of Yunxi not letting him touch her a few days ago, and she looked tired. Han Xuan covered his head and looked at Princess Zhaxi in pain, unable to accept this fact all of a sudden.

Han Xuan's heart was full of contradictions and pain. He felt sorry for Yunxi for bearing all this alone, but he didn't understand why Yunxi hid the truth from him.

He decided to find Yunxi and hear the truth from her own mouth.

When he came to Yunxi's room, he found her staring out the window silently.

Han Xuan walked forward and held her hand tightly. "Yunxi, I know everything. Why did you want to abort the child? Are you hiding something from me?"

Yunxi turned her head, tears in her eyes, "I'm sorry, I didn't want to make you worry."

Han Xuan's face was full of anger, his voice trembling as he questioned Yunxi: "Why? Why did you abort our first child?" His eyes were full of pain and confusion.

Yunxi's tears flowed like a spring, her body trembled slightly, and she cried, "I don't want to keep the baby, but my body won't let me keep the baby. The doctor said that continuing the pregnancy may put my life in danger, and there is no guarantee that the baby will be healthy." Her voice was full of helplessness and sadness.

Han Xuan's face turned pale. He couldn't accept this fact. He grabbed Yunxi's shoulders, shook her, and said, "Is there no other way? We can face it together!"

Yunxi cried and shook her head, her eyes full of despair: "I tried, but it didn't work. I can't risk your future and the child's future."

Han Xuan's heart was full of contradictions and pain. He didn't know how to face this reality. He slowly squatted down and buried his head between his arms, tears sliding down his cheeks. The whole room was filled with a sad atmosphere, as if time had frozen.

"Could it be that you stayed overnight in the palace with the emperor that time..." Han Xuan said painfully. Yunxi opened her tearful eyes and looked at Han Xuan in disbelief: "Do you think of me this way? It's in vain that I love you so much. I went through so much hardship and fought the enemy on the border with you. You disappoint me so much..." Yunxi said and rushed out.

Yunxi walked sadly alone on the streets of the capital. The streets and alleys of the capital were full of noise and bustle, with people bustling around and cars and people walking on the streets. The streets and alleys were filled with various sounds, including the hawkers' cries, the clatter of horses' hooves, and the children's laughter. However, in this prosperous capital, there was a person who was out of tune with all this, and she was Yunxi.

Yunxi was wearing a simple and elegant dress, and she walked lightly, like a fairy. Her face was delicate, and there was a hint of sadness in her eyes. She seemed to have no interest in the hustle and bustle around her, as if she was in another world.

The prosperity of the capital city formed a sharp contrast with her state of mind. She walked through the bustling streets, and the laughter of people was like a distant echo to her. Her thoughts drifted far away, perhaps recalling the past, or perhaps missing someone far away.

Yunxi's figure appeared lonely and determined in the crowd. She was not moved by the bustle of the capital, and she held on to her inner peace. Her existence was like a clear stream, adding a different color to this bustling capital...
