Time Travel: I am a Warlord in Doomsday America
Chapter 19 Changes
Two days passed.
After waking up in the morning, Zhang Qiang walked to the rooftop of the office building and smoked a cigarette silently. He began to think about the supplies of Green Farm.
The sound of large vehicles roaring could be heard on the school road. Jim was driving a forklift and was loading a pile of corpses into the back of a large freight truck.
Zhang Qiang looked at the people who had gotten up early to work with satisfaction. Daryl and Moore were in charge of security, Dai Ya was patrolling around, and the teacher was cleaning and doing some chores with the children.
Yesterday, Zhang Qiang cleared out the school's teaching building and found two medical staff who were starving.
When they were first discovered, the two men in white protective suits were barely able to move. When Zhang Qiang approached and heard their voices, he thought they were zombies and almost shot them.
Maurice Sanders, Cyrus Hope.
One man and one woman, two white medical workers, were the survivors who came to the school to rescue during the disaster.
Interestingly, there didn't seem to be many black people in Gran Town, at least Zhang Qiang hadn't seen any black survivors yet. There were some zombies, though.
Wu Yang and Kendall were taking care of the two weak medical staff. Zhang Qiang believed that these survivors with professional skills could become the school's logistical medical support.
Without having breakfast, Zhang Qiang called Dai Ya and Alan and drove to Green Farm to take advantage of the situation.
Jim's pickup truck was requisitioned by Zhang Qiang.
Driving is a very practical skill, but Zhang Qiang has not learned it yet. After getting on the pickup truck, Zhang Qiang put learning to drive on his “personal list”.
"Daya, you're the town police, you know how to get to Green Farm, right? That's Alan's home, and there's something I need there."
Zhang Qiang stood outside the car and said to Dai Ya who was in the driver's seat.
Dai Ya nodded and said excitedly: "Boss, are you going to send Alan home? You are such a good person."
Dai Ya thought that Zhang Qiang was sending the children home on purpose. The police officer's sense of justice made her automatically imagine the behavior of others.
"No, just passing by."
Zhang Qiang told the truth.
Dai Ya threw a coquettish glance at Zhang Qiang. She thought that Zhang Qiang was cold on the outside but warm on the inside.
At least that's what she thought.
Zhang Qiang did not explain. Dai Ya was a veteran in society. Judging from the fact that she called him "boss" all the time in the past two days but did not become his follower, Zhang Qiang had limited trust in her.
Let Alan sit in the passenger seat, and Zhang Qiang lay in the back of the pickup truck, playing with a butterfly knife in his hand.
This is a derivative equipment that he unlocked by spending extra points when he unlocked the dagger in the panel.
The school gate opened, Daryl and Maul raised their guns and cleared out the zombies wandering around, and the pickup truck drove out.
Just after Zhang Qiang left for a while.
On the rooftop of the teaching building, Moore, who was taking a break from his busy schedule and smoking a cigarette, spotted a green car passing by on the road outside the school.
"Fuck. Anyone?"
Moore raised the Dragunov sniper rifle in his hand, which was the toy Zhang Qiang left for him.
After aiming the scope at the green car, Moore closed one eye and muttered what he saw with a strange expression.
"A black man and three white people...all wearing torn denim jackets...hahahaha, they look just like me! None of them are good people!"
Although we should not judge a book by its cover, those in the US who like to wear ripped denim jackets are either bikers or members of certain gangs.
There are more white gangs.
If they are gang members, they are much more brutal than the black gangs Zhang Qiang encountered in the Birkenhead community.
They may not engage in any high-profile gunfights, but it is their tradition to resort to knife-wielding, kidnapping, amputation, and dismemberment if they have a disagreement.
Of course, this doesn't mean that they don't know how to use guns, but they are not as mindless as black people who cause trouble for themselves.
Planned criminal revenge, thinking for profit, cruelty and shrewdness are synonymous with this type of gang.
Moore had been in a gang when he was young, and he knew this group of people very well. The only thing that puzzled him now was how could there be a black person among this group of white people?
Racial discrimination must be deeply rooted in the hearts of these bad guys. Could it be that they compromised with reality because they were short of manpower during the disaster?
Maul quickly ran downstairs and told his brother Daryl what he had discovered.
"Fuck, are they spying on us?"
Daryl asked angrily. He didn't think the person Mor saw would be easy to get along with.
Moore curled his lips and said, "I'm not sure. Where's the radio? Did Zhang bring it? We have to tell him."
Daryl patted his thigh and said excitedly:
"Fuck! Zhang said last time that every team should bring a walkie-talkie, but he forgot about it this time!"
"Ah?! I'll have to give him a good talk when he comes back."
Moore carried the sniper rifle with a serious look on his face.
"Stop playing tricks, bro. What should we do now? You can't be completely unguarded." Daryl reminded.
"Tell the others first, tell them to pay attention to the movements outside the school when they are working, and don't approach strangers casually! Everything will be decided after Zhang comes back!"
Moore made the final decision.
Zhang Qiang and others were still on the road. Dai Ya was sitting in the driver's seat and wanted to tell a joke to amuse Alan from time to time, but Alan's face was expressionless.
This made Dai Ya a little autistic.
After driving outside the town for a while, the pickup truck turned onto a path in the woods. After a while, the surrounding woods broke through the clouds and revealed the vast plains surrounding them.
Green Farm, with the houses in the distance and a group of people working near the houses.
Dai Ya drove the pickup truck forward a little further, and soon someone noticed them.
A white girl riding a brown horse and carrying a shotgun rushed over.
Zhang Qiang recognized that it was Maggie.
Dai Ya was still wearing her dirty old police uniform. She stuck her head out and said to Maggie who was riding over:
"I'm Glentown Police Officer Daiya Smith! Alan Green is in my car!"
Maggie was riding on the horse. When she saw Alan sitting on the passenger seat of the pickup truck with half of his head exposed, secretly observing her, she burst into tears of joy. She pointed the whip in the direction of the main house and gave instructions:
"follow me!!"
Zhang Qiang, like an outsider, ignored the communication process between the two parties.
Daya drove the pickup truck to the Green family's big house, and Hershel, with sparse white hair, came out with his little daughter Beth.
Seeing Alan in the pickup truck, Hershel whispered, "God bless you." He quickly walked to the pickup truck, opened the door and carried Alan down.
"Alan! Honey, I'm glad you're okay... I don't want to see anyone get into trouble again..."
Hershel seemed to be talking to himself to comfort himself.
Alan was the child entrusted to him by his ex-wife's sister. Although he accepted her, he still treated her differently. Otherwise, he would not have given up looking for Alan.
There has been a lot of bad news recently, so Alan's return is a good thing.
In addition, Hershel's farm recently welcomed a guest, or a creditor...
An old friend named Otis unfortunately hits a boy while hunting deer, and then the injured boy and his entire camp come to the farm.
Zhang Qiang jumped out of the back of the pickup truck holding a rifle. When he saw an Asian man with heavy firepower getting out of the car, Hershel's eyes were clearly wary.
"open?!"
A familiar exclamation was heard, and old Dell, wearing a fisherman's hat, walked out from under the eaves of the house. With his dim eyes, he seemed to be confirming Zhang Qiang's appearance.
Zhang Qiang nodded to Dale: "Long time no see, Dale. Where's Uncle Sevo?"
Zhang Qiang was mentally prepared to meet Rick's team at Green Farm.
"He... I'm sorry, Zhang. In order to cover our departure from the CDC, Sewo disappeared into the swarm of zombies..."
Dell may not have said it outright because he naively wanted to give Zhang Qiang a glimmer of hope.
But Zhang Qiang's reaction was quite grim. He sneered and said sarcastically, "Is that where you chose to go? How many of you are still alive?"
Dale looked unhappy, and Hershel beside him asked inquiringly, "Do you know each other?"
“We were in the same camp before.”
Zhang Qiang was bored and lit a cigarette.
Hershel glanced at Zhang Qiang. It was hard for a traditional white old Christian man to have a good impression of this long-haired Asian man.
"This is the man who liberated the school and saved more than 20 children. His name is Zhang Qiang, and he is also the [Principal] of the school camp."
Dai Ya took the initiative to explain to Hershel, showing her talent as a lackey.
"Wow! You saved more than twenty children? This is really amazing. Forgive me for not introducing myself just now. I am Hershel Green, the owner of this farm."
Hershel came over and shook hands with Zhang Qiang.
Zhang Qiang shook hands with him gently, then turned his face to the side and continued smoking.
“Mr. Hershel, I originally wanted to come here to search for some supplies. After all, there are still many people in my camp who need to be fed.
Alan said there is a big farm here, but since the owner of the farm is still here, we can only do some business.
What do I need in exchange for your food?"
Zhang Qiang talked to Hershel directly about the trade.
"Are you short of food? I have plenty of corn and flour stored here. I can also give you some fruit if you need it."
Hershel didn't talk about the report. In his opinion, it was enough that Zhang Qiang took the risk to send Alan back.
Saving the children in the school (Dai Ya's beautified version of the truth), Hershel thinks Zhang Qiang is definitely a good person.
"Well, since you are willing, then you can give it to me. If I think it is insufficient or if there are any extra requests, I will exchange it with guns or support services."
Zhang Qiang was smoking a cigarette and was too lazy to respond to Hershel's talk about social etiquette.
Hershel was a little surprised. He asked, "What is support service?"
Zhang Qiang replied: "I will help you clean up the zombies outside, or kill the threatening wanderers. Of course, fighting with people is another price, you have to pay three times."
Hershel felt cold. Zhang Qiang made killing people sound too easy. At this time, the zombies were still patients in his eyes, not to mention the survivors who were not infected.
Hershel couldn't accept taking other people's lives at will.
Hershel realized that the Asian in front of him was not a very easy-going person.
"No need young man, we can protect ourselves."
Hershel has a family and relatives to live with, so after thinking about it, he did not completely reject Zhang Qiang's conditions.
Maggie and Beth took Alan's little hand and wanted to take her to take a bath. The child had not changed her clothes for a long time and her body was already smelly.
When Ailan was being dragged away, she kept staring at Zhang Qiang, who "sold" her, and there seemed to be "resentment" in her young eyes.
Zhang Qiang, who was still smoking, obviously noticed Alan's look. He waved to Maggie and Beth and said, "Ladies, wait a moment."
Zhang Qiang walked up to Ailan who was standing at the door, without bending down, looking down at her, and said:
"What's that look in your eyes?"
Zhang Qiang's questioning made the atmosphere around them a little weird. Maggie thought Zhang Qiang was trying to scare Alan, so she stepped forward and stood in front of Alan.
"What are you doing?" Maggie asked unhappily.
"I'm not talking to you, I'm chatting with my students." Zhang Qiang said with a frown.
"If you have something to say, just say it, don't hide behind others."
Zhang Qiang's words seemed both threatening and encouraging.
Alan walked out from behind Maggie and said in a cold tone: "I still want to go back to school. Are you selling me to them in exchange for food?"
Zhang Qiang raised his eyebrows and his eyes widened. He didn't like what Alan was saying at all.
"Ailan, if you want to go back, just go back. Dai Ya is driving you anyway." Zhang Qiang said casually.
As for other people's opinions, Hershel is Alan's guardian anyway, so if they have different opinions, let them express them themselves. It doesn't matter to me.
Zhang Qiang prepared to smoke another cigarette and sat down under the stairs on the roof. Hershel looked at Zhang Qiang who was so carefree and treated the surroundings as his own home, and he sighed helplessly.
If Zhang Qiang didn't have heavy firepower in his hands, he would have shouted to drive him away. The scene just now made Hershel feel that Zhang Qiang was more difficult to get along with.
Alan was still brought into the house. Maggie and Beth held her and tried to persuade her.
Daiya is chatting with her acquaintance Patricia, Otis's wife, who is also the fat white man who shot Carl in the original play.
Dale left for a while, and a moment later, two women ran over on the grass, their eyes fixed in Zhang Qiang's direction.
Zhang Qiang noticed someone was staring at him, he turned around and saw who they were, he probably guessed that these two were going to cause trouble for him...
