You are my golden finger

Chapter 6: Repairing the House

Lin Xijin returned home with her younger brother and sister. After having breakfast and drying the herbs, she asked the two to pick weeds at home. She also took out the fruits and vegetables and gave them to them before leaving home.

Lin Xijin thought that the most urgent thing was to buy a set of furniture, tables, chairs, benches, and beds, all of which were needed now. The roof was leaking, and if it rained, it would leak badly, so it had to be fixed immediately. After a while, I would buy more land next door and build a new house.

Lin Xijin made a plan and went to the clan leader's house first. The clan leader's eldest son, Dafu, knew how to make furniture.

"Uncle, is Uncle Dafu at home? I want to make some furniture." Lin Xijin walked in and greeted the clan leader.

"Yes, yes. What kind of furniture do you want, Jin?" Uncle Dafu hurried out when he heard the voice.

I followed Uncle Dafu to select the wood, told him what to make, and insisted on paying a deposit before leaving.

Originally, the clan leader and Uncle Dafu refused to accept the deposit, but she knew that she was now a poor, poor person in the eyes of everyone, and she didn't want to leave the impression that she was taking advantage of everyone. In order to let Uncle Dafu feel at ease to help her make furniture, Lin Xijin insisted on leaving the deposit.

As the saying goes, money makes things easier. The clan leader's grandmother was watching with great joy and kept saying, "Don't worry, Jin girl, I will keep an eye on your uncle Dafu and ask him to help you get it done quickly."

After saying goodbye to the clan leader’s family, I went to Grandma He’s house to find Uncle Mu Xiong.

When we arrived at Grandma He's house, Grandma He and Uncle Mu Xiong were both at home.

"Grandma He, my house is in tatters and it leaks when it rains. I want to ask Uncle Mu Xiong to help repair it." Lin Xijin told them why she came.

"Jin girl, let me go into your house first to see what materials are needed to repair the house. We can buy them back before we start the construction." Uncle Mu Xiong is very experienced.

Grandma He also had some free time, so the two of them followed Lin Xijin to her house.

Jiang saw the three people and was talking nonsense, but Lin Xijin didn't bother to pay attention to her. She still had the awareness of modern people. If you are bitten by a dog, you can't bite it back!

After returning home with Grandma He and Uncle Muxiong, Uncle Muxiong went to look at the materials for the house. Xihui and Xijia were picking weeds, and Grandma Qi also came over and helped.

Lin Xijin hurried to the kitchen to boil water and make some flower tea picked from the mountain. She also cut some fruits that she had cheated on in the morning to treat them.

"Jin girl, your tea is delicious and the fruit is sweet. But you have to be careful when you go up the mountain and don't climb too high." Grandma He praised the tea and fruit while caring about her safety.

Grandma Qi and the two kids also echoed.

Lin Xijin was chatting with the two grandmothers. When Grandma He saw the three siblings wearing new clothes, she knew they were ready-made clothes bought yesterday. She said to them, "Jin girl, when you buy fabrics in the future, we will make them for you, so you can save some money."

Lin Xijin couldn't bear to let the two old people worry about it, so she asked them who in the village was good at sewing, and planned to make a few quilts and winter clothes for the siblings. Lin Xijin decided to follow the local customs for these obvious things, so as not to be too shocking and cause unnecessary trouble.

Grandma He said that her daughter-in-law and the two daughters-in-law of the clan leader were good at sewing, so they could do it. After Lin Xijin knew this information, she made a plan in her mind and decided to do these things after repairing the house.

Uncle Mu Xiong looked around the house inside and out, counted the materials roughly needed, estimated the amount of silver needed, and then came to talk to Lin Xijin.

Uncle Mu Xiong was worried that Lin Xijin had no money, so he decided to just buy some tiles, cut the necessary wood and bamboo in the back mountain, and cut some thatch to cover the kitchen to solve the problem.

"Uncle Mu Xiong, don't worry about the money. I have money to buy these things, but your wages may be a little lower. How about I pay you thirty cents a day?" Lin Xijin discussed with Uncle Mu Xiong.

"Jin girl, you have a lot of money to spend on this place, and uncle doesn't want any wages. You can keep it to buy new things." The honest and simple Uncle Mu Xiong felt sorry for the three siblings.

But Lin Xijin knew that brothers should settle accounts clearly, and family affection also needs money to maintain, so that family affection can last for a long time. She didn't want to let others stay away from her because of a small profit.

She invited Uncle Muxiong to drink tea and eat fruit, and gave him one or two taels of silver to buy materials. Uncle Muxiong helped to nail a chicken coop and a rabbit cage with bamboo strips, and then she and Grandma He said goodbye and went back.

The next day, when it was still dark, Lin Xijin took advantage of the fact that her brother and sister were still asleep and ran towards the trap on the mountain. Before she reached the trap, Lin Xijin heard the call of a wild boar.

She took out a flashlight from the space and shone it into the pit. Wow, there were actually three wild boars in the trap. She decided to go back and ask the villagers to help carry them back. Lin Xijin practiced kung fu for a while and took the opportunity to kill a goat before going home.

After preparing breakfast and eating with his younger brothers and sisters, he told them to practice martial arts at home, then hurried to the clan leader's house and told him that the trap he had dug had captured three wild boars.

The clan leader was stunned. He didn't expect such a little girl to be so bold. The people in the village were afraid of tigers and wild boars and didn't dare to go up the mountain easily. But this girl dared to go up the mountain alone to dig traps for wild boars.

He quickly advised: "Jin girl, the back mountain is dangerous, don't go there in the future."

Lin Xijin smiled, knowing that the old man was concerned about her.

The clan leader hurriedly called his two sons and several young men from the neighboring clan families, and they all went to the valley with sticks and ropes.

When they reached the trap, a group of people used sticks to knock the wild boar unconscious, then they brought the wild boar out and tied it up. Two people carried one head down the mountain.

When she got home, the elders and Uncle Mu Xiong who came to repair the house also arrived. Lin Xijin decided to kill the pigs and share them with everyone. The elders only allowed her to kill one pig, and asked Lin Xijin to take the other two to the town to sell to supplement the family income.

"Dafu, Jianan, Dashun, the three of you stay here to kill the pigs, and the rest of you help Muxiong cut wood and bamboo." The patriarch ordered.

So everyone started working separately.

After the pig was killed and the pork was cut up, Lin Xijin gave a portion to the clan leader and each elder of the clan, gave an extra portion to the people who came to help carry the pig and Uncle Mu Xiong, and kept the remaining portion and most of the offal for herself. Everyone happily carried the meat back home.

The clan leader and Lin Xijin agreed that after lunch, he would ask his second son Jianan to drive the cart over and take the other two pigs to the town to sell. Lin Xijin quickly prepared the pig offal, cooked a simple pot of pig offal porridge, and called Qi Po and his younger brothers and sisters to eat.

Not long after lunch, Uncle Jianan arrived in his oxcart. The oxcart of the clan leader's family was usually used to transport wood and furniture, and was rarely used to pick up passengers or help others transport goods.

Lin Xijin was particularly grateful to the clan leader and Grandma He's family for their help.

"If you give me a papaya, I will give you a peach in return." She decided to include the clan leader and Grandma He's families on the first list of people to get rich with her in her great cause of becoming well-off.

He loaded the two wild boars, the goat and the two pheasants onto the ox cart and headed for the town with Uncle Jian'an.

On the way, Uncle Jianan suggested to Lin Xijin that it would be better to send the prey to a restaurant he was familiar with. This way, there would be no need to look for the market. After all, there were fewer people in the town in the afternoon.

Lin Xijin thought this was a good suggestion, so she sent the prey to the restaurant as Uncle Jianan suggested.
