You are my golden finger

Chapter 13 Picking up people

Seeing the man leave, Lin Xijin took her younger brother and sister and walked towards the two children crawling on the ground.

The child who was kicked was covered in bruises, with blood oozing from the corners of his mouth, and the exposed skin on his body was blue and purple. He looked to be about six or seven years old, probably a little older than Xihui and Xijia.

Lin Xijin helped him sit up, revealing the child he was protecting. The child turned out to be a little girl, smaller than the boy, about the same age as Xijia. Her body was dirty, but her two big eyes were particularly bright, looking at them intently.

"Are you injured? Can you get up by yourself?"

The little girl was quite well-behaved. She thanked Lin Xijin, got up and went to check the boy's injuries.

Lin Xijin helped the boy up, and seeing that he could still move, she said to them, "Let's go and eat something."

The boy and girl looked at Lin Xijin in surprise, not daring to believe what they heard, wondering if these words were spoken to them.

Seeing Lin Xijin nod, the two of them supported each other and followed carefully.

The five of them went into a nearby wonton shop, and each ordered a bowl of wontons and started eating. The boy and girl looked starving, and they couldn't help drooling since they entered the shop. But after getting the wontons, they didn't eat them in a hurry, and the boy even took care of the girl. Lin Xijin looked at this scene and thought that these two children were really good.

After eating wontons, she asked about the boy and girl. The boy stammered and told Lin Xijin that they had no home and were two little beggars. They usually lived in a dilapidated temple in the town and lived by begging. Today, because they couldn't get anything and the little girl was very hungry, the boy went to steal the buns.

Xihui and Xijia tugged at Lin Xijin's clothes and whispered to her, "Sister, let's take them home. Let's go dig wild vegetables more often."

Lin Xijin laughed inwardly. If they had to rely on digging wild vegetables to feed a few people, their graves would probably be covered with grass next spring. However, seeing that these two children were good, she also had the idea of taking them in.

"Would you like to follow us back?"

The two children were a little confused, and they didn't believe that the God of Luck would favor them so much. Seeing that they didn't say anything, Xihui and Xijia were a little anxious: "Sister asked if you are willing to go home with us, are you willing?"

This time the two children were sure they had heard correctly and nodded quickly.

Seeing that they were willing to go back with her, Lin Xijin took them to the cloth shop where she usually bought things and bought two sets of clothes and two pairs of cloth shoes for each of them. They changed their clothes immediately and asked the waiter to fetch a basin of water to help them wash their faces and hands. The two of them then revealed their pretty looks.

Lin Xijin also bought a set of clothes for her younger brother and sister.

The children quickly became familiar with each other. As the boy was still injured, it was not convenient for him to go shopping anymore, so they went to the grocery store next door to buy some daily necessities, and then they prepared to go home.

Lin Xijin felt that there were too many people, so the whole family simply rented an ox cart.

Chatting along the way, the boy said that he had followed an old beggar to beg since he could remember, and later he met the little girl, and the old beggar was kind enough to take them both in. Not long ago, the old beggar died of illness, leaving only the two of them to depend on each other. He was about seven years old, and the little girl was about five years old.

Lin Xijin said: "You don't have proper names either, so from now on you will follow our family name. You, the older brother, will be called Lin Xinfeng, and the younger sister will be called Lin Xinlan."

The two were very happy to get names.

When she got home, Qi Po saw that she had brought back two more children, and she couldn't help but feel a little worried. There were six people in the family, old and young, and Jin was too burdened at such a young age. But even though she was worried, she knew that Lin Xijin was kind-hearted, so she didn't say anything and went to boil water to wash the children.

Children who came out of a beggar's den were naturally not that clean. The water that came out of the first wash was black, and the water became clearer after the second wash. Each person had to wash three times before they were clean.

Lin Xijin carried buckets of water and did all the hard work. Fortunately, she had eaten well and recovered a little. She also cheated occasionally and didn't feel tired when she got water out of the space.

Xihui and Xijia also took a bath and changed into new clothes. Xinfeng was the tallest, followed by Xihui and Xijia, while Xinlan was the youngest and shortest.

The four little ones lined up in a row, and Lin Xijin immediately felt like she had run an orphanage in her previous life.

For dinner, we cooked a big pot of white rice, stewed a pheasant soup with gastrodia elata, fried a bowl of wild vegetables, and boiled a pot of fish. The six of us sat around and ate the meal happily.

Duoduo was also eating with relish from his dog bowl.

At night, Xinfeng and Xihui were arranged to sleep in the same bed, while Xinlan stayed with Xijia. Lin Xijin wanted to be lazy, so she arranged for Xihui and Xijia to tell Xinfeng and Xinlan the beginning of the story of Journey to the West, and then she continued to tell the rest of the story.

Xihui and Xijia had a new partner, and they could show off in front of their new partner, so they didn't mind that their sister didn't tell a new story. So Xihui gave the main story and Xijia supplemented it, and it was actually quite good.

Xinfeng and Xinlan had never heard such a good story before, so they listened with great interest.

The night gradually became quiet, and the children fell asleep. Lin Xijin moved to the space again and started to draw her own furniture design.

The morning light shines through the window.

Lin Xijin quietly got up, and Xihui woke up too. Thinking that Xinfeng was covered in wounds, it was not suitable for him to lead them up the mountain. He asked Xihui to take them to practice martial arts and feed rabbits at home, and then took Duoduo to the back mountain.

A man and a dog flew through the mountains like an arrow shot from a bow.

When I came down the mountain, there were two more rabbits in my basket and three more pheasants in my hands. It was another day of great harvest.

When I got home, I saw several children working in the shed. Two little girls were feeding the rabbits and two boys were cleaning.

Lin Xijin locked up the rabbit and chicken she had caught this morning. She said to the children, "I've thought of a nursery rhyme. Do you want to listen to it?"

"Yes, yes, yes!" Xijia shouted the loudest.

Listen carefully: "The little white rabbit is so white, with two ears standing up, loves to eat radishes and vegetables, and jumps around so cutely!"

After reciting it twice, she asked everyone to repeat it. The two little girls followed Lin Xijin's gestures, and the two boys looked shy but also recited along. Lin Xijin felt like she was attending a morning class in a kindergarten!

Looking up, I saw Aunt Qi standing in the morning light, smiling kindly. The wrinkles on her face were like a cosmos flower, particularly warm and peaceful.

Breakfast was the multi-grain porridge and steamed bread cooked by Qi Po, and two small bowls of pickled vegetables that Qi Po usually prepared. Qi Po had lived a poor life, so she couldn't bear to eat like Lin Xijin. But they all grew up in bitter melon fields, so they also ate it very sweetly.
