Restart the Disaster of Another World
Chapter 4 Procurement
Jing Yao didn't care about what happened next. He first went to the dim sum shop to buy a few bags of dim sum, and then went to the butcher shop to buy a few pounds of meat. Thinking that there was not much food left at home, he bought some rice and flour.
As for the seasonings, he had them in his space, so he didn't buy them. It's not that he looked down on the things here, but his cooking skills were poor and the taste of the rice was average. If he used seasonings made with modern technology, he could barely eat it, but if it was ancient seasonings, he really couldn't swallow it.
If he didn't have the conditions, he wouldn't be so picky, but the key is that he has them, so why doesn't he treat himself better? After all, as an older single man in modern times, he used to rely on outsiders to support him. Later, in the apocalypse, he had no choice, and he didn't eat badly. There were people with good cooking skills who were willing to cook for him in exchange for a little food.
The things he bought were a lot, and it was difficult for him to carry them, and he couldn't put them in any space for fear of arousing suspicion. He thought about buying a horse. After all, he went out frequently, and it was convenient for him to have a car. But he didn't know if a horse was a good choice, so he might as well buy a cow.
Jing Yao, who has been solo for so many years, does not have too many material requirements. He just wants a house that is drafty, rain-free, a warm and comfortable quilt, delicious food and meat. Even though there is a lot of money in the space, which are rare treasures nowadays, he has never thought of exchanging them for money. He just wants to be free.
When there was one more person and I started to think seriously about life, I felt that I was a little too rough.
When he walked to Minsheng Street, he had the rare leisure to stroll carefully, looking at the things on sale, chopsticks, baskets, wooden basins, cabinets, furniture, bedding, rice, flour, oil and salt. Looking at the people coming and going and choosing, it seemed nice to be one of them.
When he walked into a salt shop, he found that there were quite a lot of people inside. Jing Yao stood at the door and listened for a while before realizing that not all the people inside were there to buy salt, but were listening to the shopkeeper speak.
"Old Xu, is this true? There is another severe drought in the north." A middle-aged man in a long gown and a beard asked curiously.
"Hey, why would I lie to you? The servant my family bought yesterday was the one who fled here from the north. When he got here, he ran out of money and was about to starve to death, so he thought of selling himself to have something to eat." Boss Xu of the salt shop said with a smile, with a big belly.
"You are kind enough to help the disaster victims." The people who heard it nearby looked in disbelief.
"Don't disbelieve it. In the north, there is not only a severe drought, but also a war." Boss Xu continued.
"Aren't there battles every year at this border? Those bandits have nothing to do in winter and come here every few days. The Duke of Zhenguo has been guarding the border for more than ten years, and he is still afraid of those little Russians." The others also nodded, not thinking that this was a big deal.
"This time it's different. Those big tribes might take action."
"What does it have to do with us?"
"When the war breaks out, the price of food will skyrocket. How can it be okay?"
"There are fewer merchants going outside the Great Wall now. Leather is 20% more expensive this winter than in the past."
"What nonsense! It's untrue. Disasters happen every year, whether it's drought or floods. People can't make ends meet everywhere. Why are there so many rumors this year? I think it's you unscrupulous merchants who are deliberately raising prices. Don't believe them."
"That's right, that's right. Everyone, go away and have lunch. Old Xu, why don't you go back quickly? Your wife will come looking for you later and you'll have a hard time."
In a short while, the people who had gathered in a group dispersed, leaving only the salt shop owner standing at the counter. That man was also good-tempered. He didn't make a fuss even if no one gave him face. He just watched people leave with a smile.
When most of the people had left, Jing Yao went up to look at the salt. The salt in this world was coarse salt, which didn't taste very good, and it was bitter if too much was added. He usually sold very little, and only bought some to pickle prey when most of the prey was hard to sell.
The boss saw the customer and quickly walked up to him and said, "Hey, little brother, which one do you want? I can give it to you at a discount."
Jing Yao pointed to the kind he usually sold and said, "Give me two kilograms first."
"Okay." The boss took out the oil paper and weighed two kilograms and handed it to him. "A total of 462 coins."
Jing Yao paused as he took the item and said, "Boss, this is a cheap price."
Boss Xu sighed and began to explain, "Young man, you don't know that the price of salt has gone up a few days ago. The salt we eat comes from the north. There is a drought there, which has caused the people to suffer. It is also very dangerous for the caravan to go there. If you are not careful and encounter a riot by mountain bandits, you will lose your goods and your life."
"Oh, the north, where exactly?" Jing Yao remembered the place where he fled, which seemed to be in the north, an unknown small town.
"I don't know the details, but I heard that the area from Hanping Pass to the north is in great chaos." Boss Xu shook his head.
"Hanping Pass." Jing Yao escaped from there. In just over three years, chaos broke out again.
"The Hanping Pass is the boundary that divides the country into north and south. Further north is outside the pass, where it's covered in ice and snow. Life there isn't as good as here, and the resources are scarce. We're also surrounded by those hairy barbarians, all of whom are strong and only know how to rob. They're not as law-abiding as the people in the south." Boss Xu shook his head and sighed.
Jing Yao had read the Geography and knew that Dayu's economic source mainly relied on agricultural output and maritime transportation. The grasslands in the north were not connected. Those tribal nomads made a living by grazing, not producing, and had no fixed place to live. If they wanted to obtain porcelain, cloth, tea, and food, they had to exchange them with Dayu. After the closure of the trade, there had been constant friction between the two sides, and small-scale battles had always occurred.
"What's the good of fighting? It only gives us a few years of peace." Jing Yao doesn't want to fight. He is living a good life now.
"That's right, there's nothing we ordinary people can do!"
Jing Yao didn't ask any more questions. He took out the change to pay the money, then left the salt shop with the change.
Boss Xu was very happy and said goodbye warmly, "Brother, come often. I will give you a discount next time." It would be nice to have more high-quality customers like him who don't bargain.
After the shopping spree, Jing Yao had a few more things in his hands. If he had any more, he wouldn't be able to carry them all. So he walked towards the city gate contentedly. It was still early and no one would come yet, so the place waiting for the bus was empty.
He walked to a roadside wonton stand and sat down, putting down his food to stretch his arms and legs. He ordered a bowl of wontons and ate them. The wonton soup was fresh, the wonton skin was thin and delicious. He ate two bowls by himself.
He didn't leave after eating, but just sat there, waiting for Zhangqiu to come back so that he could take a bus back. He thought it would be great if he could meet the little guy again.
Maybe he was really lucky, after a while, a figure walking with head down appeared in his sight, holding a piece of cloth in his hand. Unlike the hurried look when they first met, he walked slowly and leisurely.
"Wen Qun!" Jing Yao saw him walking straight forward without seeing him, so he couldn't help but call out to stop him.
But because they were far away, Wen Qun did not hear Jing Yao's shouting and walked towards an alley. Jing Yao quickly stood up and chased after him.
Then he saw a scene that made his blood boil. Several men were blocking Wen Qun deep in the alley, not letting him pass, and saying dirty words.
"Do you want money? This is all I have. I'll give it all to you." Wen Qun took out a purse and poured out all the money in it to give them, but he held the purse in his hand, clenching it tightly.
"Xiao Shuang'er, this money is not enough. Please play with us!" As he said that, he was about to touch Wen Qun.
Wen Qun held the cloth in his arms and kept backing away, hiding, his deer eyes full of tears.
Just when the man's hand was about to touch Wen Qun's face, a hand grabbed him and twisted him to the side, and a pig-slaughtering scream came out of the man's mouth.
"You dare to hurt our eldest brother, brothers, beat him."
When the other men saw Jing Yao suddenly appear and attack them, they were very angry and surrounded him and were ready to beat him.
"Brother Jing, be careful." Wen Qun looked at Jing Yao who suddenly appeared as if he had seen a life-saving straw, but when he saw him being besieged, he became afraid again, "You bad guys, I will beat you to death."
No one expected that Wen Qun, who was so scared just now, would suddenly attack. A person standing close to him was hit by him with a cloth, but Wen Qun's strength was too small and he didn't hurt anyone at all.
The man hit by Wen Qun turned around and wanted to hit him, but was kicked to the ground by Jing Yao. He did not hold back and used all his strength. Soon, several thugs who did not know how to use force and only relied on their numbers to bully others were all knocked to the ground by him.
"Have mercy, sir, have mercy."
The few people no longer had the arrogance they had just now, and lay on the ground begging for mercy.
"If I see you guys again, I'll beat you up every time I see you." Jing Yao said sternly, "Get lost."
Several people quickly got up and ran away.
"Are you okay?" Jing Yao asked.
Wen Qun hugged Bu, and the tears he had just held back were now falling down. Jing Yao hurried forward to comfort him.
"Okay, okay, don't be afraid. The bad guys have been driven away." He held a handkerchief and clumsily wiped Wen Qun's tears.
Wen Qun cried for a while and then stopped after being comforted by Jing Yao. She looked at the nervous Jing Yao with her sparkling little deer eyes and suddenly laughed.
"Thank you, Brother Jing. I'm fine now." He said a little embarrassedly.
When Jing Yao saw him smile, he knew that he was really not afraid anymore and had stopped crying. He breathed a sigh of relief and took Wen Qun out of the alley and returned to the wonton stall.
"Sit down. Did you buy this cloth to make clothes? The color is very beautiful." Jing Yao took the things in his hand and put them on the table, then ordered a bowl of wontons from the shop owner.
Wen Qun hesitated for a moment, but did not refuse. He sat down and said, "I am already sixteen years old. My mother asked me to make my own clothes in the future. I am not very fast, so I want to prepare winter clothes as soon as possible."
It's only the end of October now, and the winter here is not particularly cold, but winter clothes still need cotton clothes to survive. Jing Yao nodded, "We should prepare well."
"Brother Jing Yao, you have sold all your prey." Wen Qun was surprised to see that he had already bought some things. He had seen other hunters selling things, and many people just looked at them without buying them. They would only buy them at a low price. If he wanted to get a good price, it would sometimes take a whole day to sell all the prey.
"Yeah, I sold it to a big restaurant. They offered a reasonable price, so I sold it all." Jing Yao did not hide anything, but he was reluctant to tell the price directly, as it would make him look like he was showing off. Of course, if Wen Qun asked him, he would definitely tell him.
Wen Qun didn't ask either. He knew that the deer could be sold for a good price, but he didn't ask. Firstly, his family education did not allow it, and secondly, he was afraid that Jing Yao would misunderstand that he was after money.
Seeing that he didn't ask, Jing Yao could only give up. Just then, the store owner brought the wontons, and he pushed them in front of Wen Qun, "Eat!"
Wen Qun shook his head, "I'm not hungry, Brother Jing Yao, you eat."
Jing Yao handed him the chopsticks without allowing him to refuse and said, "I ordered this especially for you. I've already eaten it. Don't be polite and just listen."
Wen Qun felt a little embarrassed after being coaxed by him, so he didn't refuse. He picked up the chopsticks and started eating. He ate neither fast nor slow, chewing slowly. Jing Yao swallowed a wonton in one bite, but he took three bites.
There were more than twenty wontons in a bowl. He couldn't finish it in the end and looked at Jing Yao with some embarrassment.
Jing Yao had already seen that he couldn't finish it, and he was also depressed, waiting for him to ask for help before saying, "If you can't finish it, put it down."
Wen Qun put down his chopsticks with a sense of relief and rubbed his stomach somewhat embarrassedly.
Jing Yao looked at Wen Qun who had recovered. After a short time together, he already felt a little fond of this little guy. Now he felt happy just looking at him. He wanted to cultivate their relationship and then bring him home as his own little husband and look after him every day. That would be a beautiful life.
