The Legend of the Demon Hunter

Chapter 2 Jungle Distress

An hour later, everyone gathered at the east end of the village. The oldest man among the group was Xiao Changtie, who was fifty-six years old. As an elder, he naturally took on the responsibility of leading the group. The youngest was Xiao Zhu, who was less than eighteen years old.

Just as they were about to set off, a family living at the easternmost end of the village opened their door, and a boy who looked only fifteen or sixteen years old came out. He was thin and dark-skinned, but had beautiful golden hair. He walked silently to the end of the group, without saying a word, as if he didn't know them, just a stranger walking with them.

Everyone looked at the blond boy curiously. The leader, Xiao Changtie, walked over and asked, "Guchuan, do you want to go with us?"

The boy named Furukawa nodded and replied calmly: "Yeah."

Xiao Changtie was slightly dissatisfied with Gu Chuan's indifferent attitude, but he still patiently continued: "This trip will be dangerous, do you know?"

Furukawa seemed a little impatient, and his tone became more harsh: "It's okay!"

Xiao Changtie felt a little embarrassed in front of everyone after getting a cold shoulder. He ignored Gu Chuan and turned to walk to the front of the crowd.

Xiao Zhu stood aside and listened to the conversation between Gu Chuan and Xiao Changtie, and shook his head slightly.

This Guchuan is really a strange person in the eyes of the villagers of Heshan...

Because of its remote location, Heshan Village has had little contact with the outside world for many years. There are only two surnames for men in the village, Wu and Xiao. And this Guchuan moved to the village only half a year ago. He is not very old, but he seems to have no father or mother. When he moved in, he did not say hello to anyone. He just lived alone in the most remote house in the east of the village that had been idle for many years. There used to be a family of six living in that house. Later, because the two brothers fought for the family property, they fell out and even used knives. The younger brother accidentally killed his older brother. The younger brother who killed people was afraid of being investigated by the government, so he hanged himself that night. The elder brother had already started a family. After he was killed, his wife moved out with the children, and the house became idle.

Because of the death of the two brothers, the villagers thought the house was unlucky and no one moved in. But the outsider Furukawa didn't seem to mind at all and moved in and lived there for half a year.

Furukawa was a loner. He had lived in the village for half a year, but the villagers only knew his name. They had no idea where he came from or why he lived in the village. He seldom went out and hardly interacted with the villagers. Even when they passed by him on the road, he would just keep his head down and not say hello. The villagers didn't like him, but fortunately he didn't have any bad habits of stealing, so the villagers just ignored him.

The mountain road was extremely difficult to travel after the heavy snow. It took the group a whole day to cover a distance of more than ten miles, and by this time they had already gone deep into the dense forest of Dongshan.

After hearing the bizarre story of Village Chief Wu, everyone was somewhat afraid of Dongshan. As night was about to fall, the fear in their hearts seemed to be brewing even more. Xiao Zhu was walking in the middle of the crowd. He looked back and saw Wu Chuan walking at the end of the crowd. He looked around from time to time, like a vigilant mouse.

Xiao Changtie looked at the sky getting darker and everyone was exhausted, so he said, "It's getting late today, let's walk and look for a place to camp!"

Although everyone was a little nervous about spending the night in the dense forest of Dongshan, they also understood that this was the best way given their current condition.

The group was looking for a place to camp while walking. The forest was surprisingly quiet, with only the crunching sound of a dozen pairs of feet stepping on the snow.

Xiao Zhu was born with excellent eyesight and hearing. In this quiet dense forest, he seemed to hear a rustling sound coming from afar, like the sound of wind blowing the leaves. But in this desolate winter, all he could see were desolate dead branches. Where was the shadow of a green leaf?

The rustling sound quickly increased and everyone heard it in an instant. The hunters standing on the periphery took out their spears and bows and arrows. They stood back to back, forming a group formation to fight the enemy.

Suddenly, a white light flashed by, and everyone could hardly see what happened. They only heard a heart-wrenching cry from a hunter standing on the left. Xiao Zhu looked in the direction of the cry and saw a finger-sized hole pierced through the hunter's heart, and blood gushed out of the wound. The old hunter fell to the ground with a bang, his body twitching constantly, and it was obvious that he was dying.

"Fourth Uncle!" a young man in the crowd shouted!

Several veteran hunters tensed up instantly. They lost a teammate in the blink of an eye, and they didn't even see the shadow of the enemy. What kind of beast has such power?

But before everyone had time to grieve, something else happened.

"Ah~Ah~" Two screams of pain were heard, and two middle-aged hunters fell to the ground. Their wounds were exactly the same as those of the man called Fourth Uncle before, and their way of death was also exactly the same.

Panic began to spread among the crowd. The last two hunters were frightened. They shouted "Oh my God" and ran back the way they came. However, they only ran a dozen steps when they were suddenly caught up by a white line of snow. The two men stopped instantly and turned into two ice sculptures in the blink of an eye.

Xiao Zhu had sharp eyes. He followed the source of the snow line and finally saw the attacker, but he only saw a blurry white figure. Its body was the size of a wild dog, but it had legs like a spider that were longer than its body.

"What kind of monster is this?" Xiao Zhu thought in horror. His hands trembled slightly with fear, but his vision and hearing seemed to be more sensitive.

While two people were frozen into ice sculptures, two more were stabbed in the heart.

The monster seemed to have three heads and six arms. It could chase the escapees while also surrounding and attacking others.

Of the fifteen people who entered Dongshan, seven were killed in a short while, and Furukawa, who had been following at the end, disappeared at some point, leaving only the last seven people standing.

The white figure rushed over again, this time its target was Xiao Changtie. Seeing that Xiao Changtie was about to be killed, Xiao Zhu rushed forward and threw Xiao Changtie to the ground. Where Xiao Changtie had just stood, a huge monster with six spider-like legs appeared.

But this monster looks like a spider but it is not a spider, because its body is divided into three sections, with six legs longer than its body, covered with thorn-like hair, and two tentacles on its head that are longer than its legs. It is pure white, with only the bottom of its long legs showing dark red, making it easy to hide in the white snow.

Just as everyone was staring at the monster in astonishment, another rustling sound came from behind. Xiao Zhu looked back and saw two more identical monsters coming out of the woods. The three monsters formed a triangle and slowly advanced, surrounding the remaining seven people, like hunters besieging their prey.

Xiao Zhu looked at the three monsters with a pale face. Suddenly, he seemed to understand what the crazy old hunter was muttering - "Auntie?"

The villagers misunderstood! He clearly said "ants"!

These three monsters as huge as wild dogs are actually three ants!

Looking at their white bodies and dark red legs, these three ants are actually the most common snow ants in the area, but their size is tens of thousands times larger than that of ordinary snow ants!
