A guide to surviving in the world of beasts

Chapter 70: Cuckoo Beast Breaks Out of Its Shell

The people below were all envious of the little cub Huya. They didn't expect that such a young cub could learn so well. Everyone looked at Huya with fiery eyes.

Huya blushed a little when he was looked at by so many pairs of fiery eyes, and said in a nervous voice, "I will teach you well."

"Okay, then let me thank this young teacher on behalf of everyone." Lang Jin said with a smile.

The matter was settled, and in the days that followed, Su Ling and her companions began to move back and forth between caves of varying sizes.

Time flies, and more than half a month has passed in the blink of an eye. The eggs that Su Ling had incubated before have obvious cracks on the eggshells in the past few days. The little cuckoo beast will be able to break out of the shell in the next few days.

Several people were very concerned, and finally on the next morning, Su Ling felt a noise, opened her eyes blearily, and looked at Hu Yi squatting at the end of the bed.

Su Ling looked sleepy and asked vaguely, "What's wrong? What are you doing squatting there?"

Hearing Su Ling's voice, Hu Yi turned to look at Su Ling and said softly, "Sorry to wake you up. The little Cuckoo has hatched. Do you want to come and see it?"

When Su Ling heard Hu Yi say that the cuckoo beasts had hatched, she suddenly became energetic. She turned over and went to the end of the bed, and saw seven little cuckoo beasts that had hatched in the basket and were chirping.

During this time, two more little cuckoo beasts pecked open the eggshells on their heads and poked their little heads out. The little cuckoo beasts' fur was the same color as the chicks, both warm yellow.

When all the little cuckoo beasts came out of the eggshells, it was the time they usually got up. Su Ling took out the eggshells from the basket and kept the little cuckoo beasts in the cave for a few days. After they gradually adapted, she put them back in the shed to be raised together.

The eggs incubated by the mother cuckoo have already started to crack and should be able to hatch in a day or two.

Unexpectedly, when they returned from the big cave at night, the mother Cuckoo had already hatched all the little Cuckoos.

Since then, Su Ling successfully completed her first hatching of the Cuckoo Beast. No bad ones appeared whether it was artificially hatched or hatched by the mother Cuckoo Beast itself.

When Lang Ji and the other person heard about it, they came to the cave to see the little Cuckoo Beast. They were very impressed to see that Su Ling had hatched the little Cuckoo Beast without a mother.

"Su Ling, you are so amazing. You really hatched a little Cuckoo Beast from the egg. It turns out that you can really hatch a little Cuckoo Beast this way. Can other eggs also be hatched in this way?" Wei asked in amazement.

"Yes, the mother animals use their body temperature to hatch their cubs. If we create the same environment for the eggs, we can hatch them." Su Ling explained.

Two days later, the group of hatched little Cuckoo Beasts were already very energetic and able to adapt well to the outside temperature, so they were put back into the shed and observed for a few days. It was found that they had no adverse reactions, so there was no need to worry anymore.

Wei's belly is now more than eight months pregnant and she is going to give birth in more than a month, but her body is still a little thin. Fortunately, she has a little more meat than when she first came. Su Ling raises more than 20 cuckoo beasts, and she will kill one every now and then to give her nutrition.

She would eat the dried vegetables and eggs first, and the rest would be saved as snacks for the little cubs in the big cave. Those children were also very sensible and would never ask Su Ling for food out of greed.

They were so sensible and well-behaved that whenever Su Ling made something delicious, she would make extra and send it to them.

The wolf man has been in the tribe for more than a month. During this period, he has studied very hard and his literacy and counting skills have been steadily improving. This is all thanks to Hu Ya's careful teaching. His broken leg has completely healed, and as long as he doesn't do strenuous exercise, walking slowly is no problem.

When Su Ling woke up one morning, she found that the heavy snow that had been falling for almost two months had suddenly stopped.

"Tiger Wing, the snow has stopped. Let's go out for a walk. I've never seen such heavy snow for such a long time before. Is that ok?"

"Okay, I'll take you out to see it later, but you have to wear more clothes. I'll also take you to take a bath." Hu Yi pinched Su Ling's smiling face and said.

Su Ling blushed and nodded.

Wei's belly is now very big and it is inconvenient for her to walk. She no longer goes to the big cave, so Lang Ji usually stays to take care of her.

After saying something to Lang Ji, Su Ling followed Hu Yi and slowly walked out of the tribe. The snow was very thick. It was okay in the tribe as the orcs would usually shovel the snow, but no one cared outside the tribe.

As soon as she left the tribe, Su Ling ran outside excitedly, but she stepped into the snow and almost buried herself in it.

Hu Yi pulled the man out of the snow pile with amusement and asked nervously, "How is it? Are you okay? Why are you so anxious? The snow where you just walked is loose and people can't stand. Come, I will lead you."

After saying that, he took Su Ling's hand and walked to the other side.

"Oh, I don't know again." Su Ling said guiltily.

The two of them walked hand in hand in the snow. The sky and the earth were all white. The branches of the tall trees were all covered with ice crystals. Although there was no sunlight, they still looked crystal clear.

Su Ling had seen snow scenes before, but compared to here, it was just a joke. It reminded her of the movies she had watched before, which had scenes of an ice and snow world. However, now that she had seen the real ice and snow world, she thought those scenes seemed really fake.

Su Ling felt like she had been walking for a long time, but when she looked around, she had only walked to the river. The tribe now used water from the melted clean snow in the tribe, so no one came here anymore.

In fact, Su Ling has been here only a few times since she came to the tribe. Now seeing the thick snow on the river surface, the water underneath should have been frozen.

"Did you carve the ice wall from the river? Is the ice thick?"

"It's very thick, but the orcs' claws are very sharp, so it's not that hard to cut it open."

Su Ling thought of Grandpa Hu Xiao, who walked around the warehouse every day and sighed when he came back. She knew that he was worried about food. In fact, Su Ling had calculated that the food was barely enough. Maybe he was scared of being hungry during the previous cold seasons, and he was worried because he saw the food decreasing every day.

Su Ling looked at the river again and suddenly came up with an idea, "Hu Yi, are there many fish in this river?"

"Fish?" Hu Yi reacted and soon understood what Su Ling was talking about. "You mean the bony beasts, right? There are a lot of them, but they don't taste good and have a lot of bones. They can easily hurt your throat when you eat them, so no one would catch them and eat them."

"Really? I know a lot of ways to cook fish into delicious food. Don't you want to try it?"
