Another World: Naval Storm

Chapter 15 Maharlika War of Independence

The Republic of Yemelica seized a large number of colonies in the war with Flas, including Puerto Rico and Kupa in the Caribbean, Maharlika in Southeast Asia, and Guam and Wake Island in the Pacific. The islands in the Caribbean were coveted by the Drak Kingdom, which naturally aroused more hostility from the upper echelons of the empire towards Yemelica. The Botuka came to observe the combat effectiveness of the Yemelica army.

In 1902, the total economic value of the Republic of Yemelica ranked first in the world, with an army of 8 and a national guard of 10. The Drake Empire did not care about the number or quality of the troops. The Drake Empire was most afraid of the world's fifth-ranked navy of Yemelica.

Since 1896, Maharlika's revolution against the colonial rule of the Kingdom of Volas has repeatedly broken out. On June 1898, 6, Maharlika declared independence, but unfortunately neither the Kingdom of Volas nor the Republic of Yemelica recognized it. After the Kingdom of Volas was defeated in the war for Maharlika, it signed the Treaty of Lutes, and the Kingdom of Volas transferred Maharlika to the Republic of Yemelica.

After the jackals were driven away, tigers and leopards returned, and the Maharlika people began to resist the colonial rule of the Yemelika Republic.

The Maharlika people had been fighting against colonialism for more than five years, and the resistance had become increasingly weak. The construction of concentration camps and ghettos effectively controlled and isolated civilians from the guerrillas.

This tactic was learned from the one used by the government of the Kingdom of Tarun against the descendants of Frings during the Afrikaner War. In theory, it protected the lives and safety of civilians, but in reality, many detainees died due to various reasons.

When the Botuka sailed into Manila, the largest port and city in Maharlika, Yemelika soldiers imposing martial law could be seen everywhere.

Looking at the fireworks everywhere in Manila, the Yemelica people are not as relaxed as they say.

"It seems that the Yemelika people have not yet completely conquered this country!" A row of Drake naval officers on the bridge were looking through binoculars.

"The Yankees don't fight that well!"

“I heard that in the battle of Muntinlupa-Las Piñas last year, the Maharlikas routed a division of the Yemelicas!”

"Yes, it's rare since Yemelica became independent!"

"Humph! The Yemelica Army is not strong to begin with, so they can only suppress the natives!"

"Yemelika Commander Arthur MacArthur said he wanted to end the war before Independence Day. I bet five gold marks that he can't end the war!"

"I'll bet three marks!"

"I bet..." Everyone placed their bets.

"Captain Leo, don't you want to go and have some fun?" The captain looked at everything in front of him with a smile.

"Sir, you won't lose if you don't make a choice!" Leo replied.

"Then you'll miss out on a lot of fun. Don't be so rigid at such a young age!"

"Sir, how long do you think the Mahalikas can resist?" Leo changed the subject.

"The Maharlikas are doomed to fail! The lack of weapons and ammunition is an obstacle to their victory! What's more, the Maharlikas are not united!"

"Yes!" Traitors and spies are more hateful than enemies!

After suffering several blows, the Yemelika army changed its strategy, bribed the Maharlika landlord bourgeoisie, created divisions among them, assassinated Maharlika army generals, occupied the northern coastal cities, cut off the Maharlika army's supply lines, and defeated the main force.

The failure on the front battlefield forced the Maharlika people to switch to guerrilla warfare. Maharlika warriors worked in the fields during the day like ordinary people, and took up arms to attack the enemy at night. The Yemelika army was exhausted.

MacArthur could only resort to the long-standing policy of massacre, openly massacring all residents over the age of 10 on Samar Island, shooting prisoners of war and driving civilians into concentration camps. On the other hand, he supported the capitulationists and pro-Yemelika factions to disintegrate the resistance of the Maharlika people.

When the warship docked, the fighting in the suburbs had not yet ended. The Yemelika garrison sent people to tell the people on the Botuka that the situation in Manila was chaotic and they could not disembark in order to protect their safety.

"Look, the Yemelikas' naval guns are removing the muzzle plugs!" An officer saw a crowd of people gathering on the warship at the berth nearby.

"Maybe their battle wasn't easy!"

"Yemelica's army is useless!"

"Quiet!" Leo asked everyone to be quiet. The others were confused and angry at the sudden shouting.

"What's wrong, Leo?" The captain came over to smooth things over.

"Sir, this is an opportunity to see the Yemelica Army and Navy's ability to coordinate operations!"

“亚特兰大号防护巡洋舰,舰长86.23米,舰宽12.85米,排水量3240吨,航速16.3节,武器2x203mm/30Mk 1舰炮,6x152mm/30Mk2舰炮,2x57mm速射炮,2x47mm速射炮,2x37mm速射炮,2x11.4mm格林转管炮。”一名军官在旁快速报出那艘耶梅利卡军舰参数。

"The maximum effective range of the 203mm naval gun is 28 kilometers. It should be able to hit the target." Looking at the fierce fighting in the distance, someone estimated the distance.

"It's a bit risky. The enemy and us are in a melee, and one shot might accidentally injure our friendly forces!"

"Indeed, but it is possible that they are outrunning the shooting to interrupt the Maharlika's offensive."

"It is also possible to give the Mahalika people a strong deterrent, forcing them to quit while they are ahead, otherwise there will be no trace left!" The Drak people are particularly sensitive about military affairs, and they discuss it endlessly.

Four huge gun barrels were pointed inland at Manila, and a salvo of "boom, boom, boom" was fired. The shells streaked across the sky and hit the ground, stirring up a cloud of dust.

"One shot per minute? Failing that!" The firing rate of the twin-mounted naval guns on the bow made the Drake Empire naval officers unable to help but complain.

"What on earth are they doing?"

"Two rounds a minute, barely acceptable."

"What a waste of time! In the Imperial Navy, three rounds per minute is acceptable!"

"Everyone, have you ever thought that one day the army will ask us for help, and how can we improve our ability to support the land? This is a very important topic!" The captain was very sensitive to military affairs and asked everyone. "Everyone must write a report and hand it in to me.

"Yes, sir!" everyone responded.

On the day that the Botuka entered the port, the Maharlika guerrillas raided the Yemelika army in the suburbs of Manila, killing and wounding more than 500 people. If it were not for the support of the navy at the critical moment, this force would have become the second force to be wiped out in Maharlika.

As for whether the naval guns killed friendly troops, only MacArthur knew. Even if they did, the Yemelica government would not care. Taking down Maharlika was the only goal.

In the following months, the battles between the two sides were dull, with nothing but suppression and clearing. After the military observation, the Bertuka set out on another journey. This time it would inspect the colonies of the Drake Empire in the Pacific. The Caroline Islands, Samoa, the Mariana Islands, etc. were all supply points for this voyage.
