Seekers Without Bounds

Chapter 1: A corner no one cares about

Shifeng Village is located at the junction of Yunchuan and Jingguo, between barren stone mountains.

There is no proper way to go up or down the mountain. It is wishful thinking to walk along the edge of the mountain. It can be said that you are walking on the edge of the mountain.

If you are not careful, you will fall off the mountain and be reincarnated. The place is deep in the mountains and very barren, with nothing to offer, difficult to travel and no resources, so naturally it is sparsely populated.

Although it belongs to the territory of Jingguo, no one has ever cared about Shifeng Village, or they simply don't know that there is such a village on the border.

The most remote corner of the village is Goudan’s home.

Goudan has never seen his mother since he was born. His mother disappeared after giving birth to Goudan, and no one cared about her departure or death.

As far as Goudan can remember, his father has been a drunkard. He has never cared about Goudan and rarely spoke to him. The only "corresponding" communication between them was a beating.

It's a miracle that he has grown to his current age. He is so skinny, like a malnourished bamboo pole.

When he was very young, he relied on his grandmother to take him around the village to beg. After his grandmother passed away.

Goudan could only go to the mountains to pick some wild fruits and dig out some bird eggs. The Stone Mountain was steep and it was difficult for a little kid to get much food.

Most of the time, they could only go to the village teacher Master Qu's family to beg for food.

The teacher had a little girl who was the same age as him. To him, Master Qu's home was like heaven.

The bright courtyard had few furnitures but was spotlessly clean. Looking at my own home, the mud-brick house looked like a damp cave, with nothing but an earthen bed, a large water tank, and even a small wooden chair.

Anything of value in the house had been exchanged by my father for wine. If there was nothing left to sell, he would do odd jobs to buy some wine.

The children in the village all laughed at Goudan and said he was picked up from a crack in a rock. They just thought he was skinny and stupid, so they all called him Goudan. As for his real name, firstly, he didn't have one, and secondly, even if he did, no one would care.

After all, her father would beat Goudan all he did except drink. With no one to protect her, the children in the village often bullied her. This situation taught Goudan a skill: if he wanted to hide, no one could find him until he was willing to come out.

Most of the time, Goudan would hide in the small private school next to the village clan hall and secretly listen to Master Qu teaching him calligraphy.

In Shifeng Village, Master Qu and his family are simply gods who walked out of a painting. Master Qu is seven feet tall, with sword-like eyebrows and a pair of bright eyes.

It was as bright as a flash of lightning, and its voice was not loud when it spoke, but it made people listen attentively and not easily distracted. Goudan could not afford the tuition, but he could still hear clearly even when he was hiding and eavesdropping.

Moreover, Goudan had a very special feeling, even though he was not in the clan hall.

But Master Qu knew that he was listening to the class and could hear every word and sentence.

Master Qu can teach, and Mrs. Qu can also treat patients. She always wears a white veil, and no one has ever seen her true face, but everyone thinks she must be a great beauty. Her eyes are like the clear sky after the rain, and they seem to have magical powers that make people feel very relaxed and comfortable at a glance.

When treating patients, Mrs. Qu did not need to take the pulse carefully like ordinary doctors. As long as people looked into her eyes, it was as if she could see through the disease, when the disease was contracted and how it developed. She knew it clearly and could prescribe the right medicine for the disease. The old cripple at the east end of the village who had been lame for decades was also cured by Mrs. Qu.

Not only can they teach children to read and write, but they can also cure diseases. The villagers have already worshipped Master Qu and his family as gods.

Master Qu has two children. The older boy, Feiying, is twelve years old and looks very much like his father, with sharp eyebrows and big eyes, and a strong build. He is obviously bigger than other children of the same age in the village.

In addition, Feiying had previously wandered around with his parents and had seen many interesting things and people.

Whenever he has free time, the children in the village will always gather around him and tell him stories about the outside world. He has become the king of children in Shifeng Village.

Feiying has a younger sister named Feiyan. The little girl has big eyes which look like two crescent moons when she smiles. She has two pigtails and looks like a delicately carved porcelain doll.

Feiyan is different from Feiying. Feiyan was born in Shifeng Village, so like Goudan and others, she has never been to the outside world. Most of the time, Feiyan would pester her brother Feiying to tell her stories about the outside world.

Whenever they saw Feiying talking excitedly in front of a group of children, Master Qu and his wife would smile slightly, but they seemed to be very secretive about what happened before they came to Shifeng Village and never mentioned it in front of anyone.

Sometimes the nosy people in the village always wanted to find out about their past, but they were always stopped by the village chief.

It was not easy for Master Qu and his family to come to Shifeng Village, a poor little village deep in the mountains. It is impossible to say that they have no unspeakable secrets.

But they brought literacy and medical care to Shifeng Village, opportunities that Shifeng Village had never had before. In this way, when children from Shifeng Village go out into the world, they will not end up like him, who had to flee back to the village with a blind eye.

"Brother, can the Earth Knight fly in the sky?" Feiyan asked with her eyes wide open.

"The Earth Knights cannot fly, but they can run on cliffs on their horses, just like us walking on flat ground. Feiyan, don't interrupt me when I'm at the critical moment."

Whenever Feiying was talking with great interest, Feiyan would always interrupt and ask some questions.

Now it is about the founding battle of the country of Jingguo in which the Earth Knight "War Saint" Shi Zhengtian single-handedly blocked thousands of water creatures at Pinghai Pass.

Feiying was surrounded by a group of children and was talking with saliva flying all over the place. The children below were simply listening to him in a trance.

They had never thought that there was such a group of people in the world who could fly into the sky and hide in the ground, ride horses on cliffs, and have aquatic creatures who could call the rain and waves in the sea.

The children in Shifeng Village had never heard of it, let alone thought about it.

In fact, the story told by Feiying is a well-known story that almost every child in the urban villages outside Shifeng Village has heard.

The isolated Shifeng Village gave a group of ignorant teenagers an indescribable shock and planted the seeds of their longing.

"Flying Eagle, it's time to eat, Flying Swallow." The children felt that happy times were always short, and the story of Flying Eagle was far from over.

Mother has already started calling them home for dinner.

"Okay, that's all for today. To know what happens next, please come back early next time." Feiying finished his classic storytelling conclusion and took his sister home for dinner.

The children who were listening to the lecture were really reluctant to see it go. They walked away in groups of three or four, chatting and looking back every few steps.

When everyone had left, only Goudan remained in the corner, deeply immersed in Feiying's story.

"I have to go out of the village to try my luck no matter what." Goudan vowed secretly, but his stomach growled in protest. He had to fill his stomach first before going out to try his luck.

"Goudan, it's getting late? Aren't you going home yet?" Feiying asked when he saw that all the other children had left and Goudan was still standing in a daze in the corner.

"I'll be right back." When facing Feiying and Feiyan, Goudan is always a little shy and speaks in a low voice. "Haha, I'll tell you the story next time. Dark clouds are coming and it's going to rain heavily soon. Let's go home early."

Feiying held his sister's hand, Feiyan turned around, smiled at Goudan, waved, and gradually walked away.

"It's a sunny day, how could it rain?" Goudan looked at the clear sky with confusion in his heart, and turned back to look at the brother and sister who were going away. The afterglow of the setting sun just happened to shine on them, making Goudan dazed. The children in the village often bullied Goudan who had no mother and made fun of him for being the child of a drunkard.

Many times when Goudan was hungry, Feiying Feiyan would bring him one or two steamed buns from home to satisfy his hunger.

On the way home, Goudan kept imagining that he was an Earth Knight who could fly. In that way, he could gallop freely on the rocky mountains, kill wild boars and jackals, have endless meat to eat, and not be beaten by his father every day.

When he got home and opened the door, Goudan's father was half lying on the ground with an empty wine bottle in his hand, his head resting on the edge of the earthen bed, and he was snoring.

Goudan looked at the rice jar next to the stove that had been empty for many days and the water in the water jar that was also empty. He glanced at his sleeping father, and before it was completely dark, he quickly went to the mountains to pick some wild fruits to eat.

Master Qu and his family were sitting at the square table next to the stove. Liu Qingci prepared a few side dishes. With her skills, ordinary ingredients could be transformed into delicious dishes.

The flying eagle lowered its head and ate its meal noisily. At this moment, the flying swallow was like a little yellow warbler, telling its parents about the interesting things that happened among the children today.

Liu Qingci looked at the brother and sister with smiles in her eyes. Master Qu looked at the sky outside the window. Dark clouds were gathering. If nothing unexpected happened, there would be a big thunderstorm on the Stone Mountain.

I was thinking of using the thunderstorm to refine the purple lightning of the flying eagle to increase the chances of winning when the flying eagle enters the realm of quality in the future.
