Yi Xin as a concubine

Chapter 31 Master Xin Returns Home

Mid-to-late September, the eighth day of the eighth month in the lunar calendar, was also the day before Xin Baoer's coming-of-age ceremony.

The two masters of the Xin family who were away finally rushed back.

As soon as Master Xin entered the gate of the Xin Mansion, his brows furrowed.

Logically speaking, the servants in the mansion were responsible for their respective duties. Some were gatekeepers, some were watering the flowers, and some were sweeping the floor. The whole mansion was quiet and peaceful. The eldest master should be happy, but he walked into the eldest lady's yard with a sullen face.

As soon as Madam Cheng heard the doorman come to report that the master had returned home, she hurriedly got herself ready to welcome the master whom she had not seen for more than a month.

But before she walked out of the yard, she saw her master with an unhappy look on his face, and she couldn't help feeling uneasy.

"What's going on, but things aren't going well?"

"It's done, come in and talk." The master heard his wife's caring inquiry and looked at her, but didn't say anything in front of the maids and old women.

The two men entered the yard surrounded by the crowd. Cheng led them into the inner room and told the servants to prepare hot water and food. She also went forward to personally help Master Xin undress.

"What are the plans for tomorrow?" Master Xin asked casually, but his eyes were fixed on his wife, watching her reaction, as if he wanted to confirm something.

Cheng's hands that were unbuttoning her clothes paused, and she withdrew her hands. The joy on her face disappeared in an instant, and she shouted something to the outside.

"Tao Ye, come and help the master change his clothes."

After saying that, he turned around and sat at the table, looking at Master Xin with a smile.

"If the master doesn't believe me, I will not care about the child anymore. I have to worry about it for nothing."

Master Xin also reacted now and realized that he had overreacted. Everyone had seen how well his wife had treated the child over the years, and he was also upset by this series of troubles. He didn't even think before he spoke or acted.

He raised his hand to avoid Tao Ye's service and waved his hand to let people go.

"Madam, I was wrong. I apologize to you. Please forgive me this time, okay?" Master Xin was also a playboy when he was young. He could definitely humble himself when coaxing a woman.

The eldest lady looked at the man who was about to lie on top of her with an air of cuteness, and suddenly remembered that when she was young, whenever she got angry, he would immediately lower himself to coax her.

Even though there were so many more women later, he never ignored her.

This man has the ability to find a delicate balance among many women, making the women in the backyard follow him willingly, without fighting or competing, and keeping to themselves.

Alas! They are all enemies!

He sighed inwardly, but his expression softened a little.

"Another old friend passed away a while ago. We don't know when our life will end!" Master Xin saw that his wife looked better, so he unbuttoned his coat and said as he did so.

"But what happened again?" The eldest lady felt something was wrong when she heard this, and she didn't care about being upset anymore and asked.

"It's that vicious woman, the Crown Princess. After failing to drag Bao'er into the water, she set her sights on the eldest son. Pei'er is only thirteen or fourteen years old, and she sent someone into the child's room. She wants to destroy Pei'er!"

When Master Xin talked about this, he forgot about pretending to gain sympathy, and his eyes were full of anger.

"What should I do? Why is my Huang'er's life so miserable!" When the eldest lady thought of her daughter having to worry again, she felt indescribably uncomfortable in her heart and her eyes turned red.

"Now the Crown Prince is constantly being attacked on his way back, and we don't know if he can arrive safely. The Crown Princess is unchecked in the East Palace, and she is acting more and more recklessly. I'm afraid Huang'er will be miserable for some time."

The Xin family is a group of merchants. They don't have the ability to know anything about the affairs of the imperial palace. They can't interfere at all. The more Master Xin thought about it, the more upset he felt. He couldn't help but hit his chest, as if only this could make him feel better.

Cheng was startled by the blow and quickly reached out to stop it. Holding back the pain in her heart, she advised: "Huang'er has always been smart and has the most independent mind among the girls in our family. Pei'er has been well-educated by her and must know her limits. Master, don't worry too much."

Listening to his wife's trembling voice comforting him, thinking about how he had been disrespectful to her, he could not help but explain in a serious tone: "I just received the news before entering the city, and I kept thinking about it. I was temporarily possessed by a demon and imagined that you also knew about it. I took my anger out on Bao'er and didn't even plan to arrange a wedding for her when she came of age."

In fact, he was still worried in his heart. If they succeeded in the future, how would Huang'er and the two children cope with themselves?

Cheng was currently preoccupied with her second daughter's affairs and had no mood to argue with her husband, but she glared at Master Xin to express her dissatisfaction.

"You know that girl. She doesn't like to be in the limelight. There have been constant rumors about the Xin family recently, and she has been sick one after another. A few days ago, she took the initiative to find me and said that she didn't plan to make a big purchase, fearing that she would get sick again if she made a fuss."

As the lady spoke, she suddenly curved her eyebrows as if she had thought of something funny.

"I didn't expect that the child would become lively after a disaster. He even said that the people we invited from other places are not as blessed as our Xin family. There are many people in our family, but they are harmonious. The brothers and sisters love each other. The main guests and sponsors should be the elders and sisters in the mansion."

"I would rather she remain as taciturn and timid as before, at least she would stay in the backyard. But now you see, the teahouse has been set up, and who knows what kind of trouble she will cause in the future."

Uncle Xin had been traveling for such a long time and was really tired. He couldn't help rubbing his sore eyes as he said this.

"How can a father like you not wish the best for your daughter?"

Cheng took the basin and towel from the maid, sent the servant away, and personally served Master Xin to wipe his face and hands, scolding him.

"Of course I treat her as my own daughter, but she still has that status. If something really happens to her, how can I have the face to go down and see my benefactor after a hundred years!"

The eldest lady also recalled some past events and felt a little uncomfortable. She sighed and said, "Why doesn't God leave a way for good people to survive?"

After expressing his feelings, he saw that Master Xin was already a little drowsy. He knew that he was very tired. After all, he was getting old and he had to accept his age.

"Now that Bao'er doesn't have to participate in the election, we should be happy. Don't think too much. Tomorrow is the child's coming-of-age ceremony. Although it won't be a big event, we as elders should also be energetic, right?"

Cheng took the hot towel, took off the man's shoes and put them away, then covered him with the quilt considerately and whispered soothingly in his ear.

"Have a good sleep. I'll take care of the housework!"

Master Xin was originally drowsy and in a state of half asleep. After hearing what the eldest lady said, he really felt relieved. After a while, a slight snoring sound was heard in the room.

The eldest lady felt distressed when she saw her husband like this. Thinking of the fact that he was worried about Bao Yatou, she stood up carefully and tiptoed out of the room.

As soon as she went out, she called Qi's mother and asked about the preparations for Baoya's coming-of-age ceremony tomorrow.

Mother Qi quickly lowered her head and prepared to report respectfully, but before she could open her mouth, she was interrupted by the eldest lady.

"Well, I'd better go and see it myself, otherwise I'll always be worried."

After the eldest lady finished speaking, she stood up and walked out in a hurry. Mother Qi quickly turned around and called a few maids, and they quickly followed her.

It was half an hour later when the lady came back from her inspection. She was all sticky and had to wash herself. She took the hairpins and jewelry that had been prepared long ago and went to Xin Baoer's yard.

Master Xin had a sound sleep. When he woke up, it was already dusk. The room was very quiet. Master Xin was not someone who could not take care of himself without someone to take care of him.

I moved my arms and legs and felt less stiff. I stood up and walked to the table and drank a cup of warm tea. Feeling the warmth in my mouth, my heart felt warmed.

The tea moistened his dry throat. He was just about to go out to see his wife, who was both rough and delicate. When he reached the door curtain, he heard two little girls talking in low voices outside.

"The eldest lady was really good to the eighth young lady. The hairpin dress was so beautiful. There was even a silk one. I heard that even the eldest and second young ladies didn't have one at that time."

"You are envious, but you need to have the looks of Eighth Miss." Another little girl joked with a smile.

"But the Madam really dotes on Miss Eight. She has personally checked on her coming-of-age ceremony two or three times for tomorrow's ceremony. It's still not a big one. If it were, it would be so lively!"

When Master Xin in the door heard this, he laughed silently.
