Chapter 283 Car Repair and Boredom

The city of Laredo is an inconspicuous city among the many border cities in the United States.

It is located in southern Texas and has not only railways but also river ports. It is both an agricultural city and a tourist city.

Across the Grande River from Laredo is the city of Nuevo Laredo in Mexico.

Just by listening to the name, you can tell how closely connected the two cities are. The border station here handles a large number of tourists in and out every day, and it is very busy.

Nuevo Laredo is one of the few cities in Western Mexico that is not short of water resources. It has well-developed irrigation and good public security. It is the first choice for many American tourists and is also a city for entering Western Mexico.

Bourne's car was parked in a parking lot not far from the border crossing, helping someone repair a car.

It's nothing, I just wanted to help and was bored, so I just helped.

There was nothing serious wrong with the vehicle, just a minor issue with the front engine, which Bourne found quickly.

I borrowed tools from the owner of a RV that was also parked nearby and fixed it in a short while.

After closing the hood, the owner tried to start the car:

"Well, the noise is gone! Thank God, I was really afraid that the car would break down halfway, which would be terrible."

The car owner was a man in his fifties with a Mediterranean hairstyle, thick glasses on his nose, a mellow voice, and a slow speaking pace.

Well, just think of it as God sending me to help you!

"Dad, what are you talking about? It was this gentleman who helped us."

Next to her, a beautiful young girl in a vest and hot pants gently patted the car owner's shoulder and said coquettishly.

She glanced at Bourne secretly and saw that he was smiling, and her face turned red instantly.

The car owner adjusted his glasses and smiled. It was a warm smile. Without decades of practice, it would be impossible to smile such a soothing smile.

This man is either a teacher or a pastor, or else, he is a liar!

"Hello, I'm Jacob Fuller, and this is my daughter, Kate. Thank you very much, young man. Are you going to Mexico alone?"

"Hello, you can call me Bourne. I'm going to a certain city. I heard the temple there is very famous."

"Really? What a coincidence! We are also going to a certain city. We can go together..."

The sudden interruption came from the hot pants girl, Mr. Jacob's daughter Kate.

Her face was flushed, and she was obviously very excited, but Jacob stopped her halfway through her words with a look.

"No, thank you. I prefer to travel alone. I feel more free."

Seeing the intense eye contact between Jacob and Kate, father and daughter, Bourne decisively refused.

Are you kidding? Can't you see that this is an old father trying to prevent strange men from approaching his cabbages?

Besides, Bourne had no intention of developing a relationship at this moment. His body had been drained by Brenda last night and had not yet recovered.

Mr. Jacob still had that warm smile on his face, but his eyes when he looked at Bourne were much softer and more appreciative: Boy, you're smart.

However, Bourne still asked out of curiosity:

"Mr. Jacob, what is your occupation? I feel..."

"My father is a pastor. My mother passed away, so he brought us out to relax!" The speaker was a boy who stuck his head out of the car. He had a round head and looked like a smart little boy.

Before Mr. Jacob and Kate could react, he continued quickly and hastily, "My name is Scott. Do you want my sister's phone number? I can give it to you. She's too shy to exchange with you."

After saying that, the young man quickly retracted his head and blocked the door of the RV at the last moment to prevent his embarrassed and angry sister from getting in the car to fight him.

"Ha ha"

Seeing his children so energetic, Mr. Jacob could only laugh dryly and didn't know what to say.

Both relieved and sad.

How long has it been since your deceased wife went to heaven? You haven’t seen your children like this.

It was also because I usually disciplined them too strictly and suppressed their nature. Perhaps this was what I wanted to achieve by resigning from my position as a pastor and traveling.

It doesn’t really matter where you go, the happiness of your family is what matters.

If my deceased wife in heaven knew about this, she would also feel comforted.

Jacob looked up at the sky to hold back his tears.

Bourne left the pastor there missing his deceased wife, and was taken away by another family.

This family also drove a motorhome, and the family of three went on a trip to Western Mexico.

The person who asked Bourne for help was the hostess of the house, a very talkative white woman in her forties. Although she talked a lot, she had a kind heart.

She pulled Bourne away. On the one hand, she really wanted Bourne to help check if there was any problem with their RV. On the other hand, she noticed that the gentleman was in a bad mood and was afraid that Bourne would be embarrassed if he stayed there.

From the woman's endless chatter, Byrne learned that her name was Edie Fitzgerald, and that she was traveling south from a certain state with her husband Don and daughter Melissa.

She just saw Bourne determine the problem with the vehicle just by listening to the sound of the engine, so she wanted to ask Bourne to help listen.

Upon hearing this, Bourne discovered that there was a problem with the other party's water tank, but it was not a big problem and he helped them solve it in a short while.

Now, Mrs. Fitzgerald was even more grateful. She invited Bourne to get in the car for tea and even brought her husband and daughter out for him to meet.

Bourne was pulled into the other party's RV by the enthusiastic Edie and washed his hands.

During the conversation, Kate came over with her brother Scott. They brought a box of homemade cookies as a thank you for helping to repair the car.

So, Bourne, the Fitzgerald family and Kate and her brother started chatting in the RV.

Bourne knew that Mr. Fitzgerald, also known as Don, was actually a DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) agent, and the reason they were blocked here and unable to leave the country was because a drug lord named Pablo Chacon was on the run in Nuevo Laredo, and in order to prevent him from sneaking into the United States, the exit was temporarily closed.

"Mr. Bourne, what do you do for a living?"

Mr. Fitzgerald's daughter Melissa asked curiously.

"I work for the FBI."

Bourne smiled, making the faces of the two little girls, Kate and Melissa, blush.

The two girls were both seventeen or eighteen years old. One was born in a pastor's family and the other's father was a policeman. They had a simple family tradition and were both good girls who had little contact with the opposite sex of the same age.

She is already at the age when love begins to stir. How can she not be moved when she meets a boy like Bourne, who is sunny, handsome, mature and gentle in conversation?

This was apparent to everyone present, including Melissa's brother Scott.

However, Bourne did not tease the two girls. Instead, he always kept a certain distance from them.

It is very difficult to strike a balance between not making the girl feel alienated and not giving her the illusion that he is interested in me.

Fortunately, Bourne has been tested and has mastered the technique very well.

However, Bourne also took out his ID and showed it to the three little guys. He also told them some strange cases he had heard about in the police station, which frightened the three of them. The Fitzgerald couple stood by and smiled.

The purpose of traveling is to relax, that's it, to meet people you can get along with, chat and gossip, and kill time.
