I'm a spy in the film
Chapter 121 "Sunset Agent"
In an exclusive villa in Capri Hills, northwest of Los Angeles.
An old black man, holding a revolver in his hand, aimed at the place where the knocking sound came from, and asked in a deep voice:
"Want a taste of my bullets, asshole!"
"No, Old Joe, I don't want to taste it. Can I open the door?" The voice coming from outside the door made the old black man feel inexplicably familiar.
"Who are you?" The black old man was a little unsure, but his hand holding the gun was still steady.
"You can't even recognize my voice?" The person outside the door was quite helpless. "It's only been a short time, and you've forgotten? I am--"
Before Bourne could finish his words, the door was suddenly opened, and an old black man wearing a light yellow golf suit and a white baseball cap grabbed Bourne's wrist, pulled him into the house, and quickly closed the door.
"Hey, Old Joe, the lights are not on. What's going on? Are your enemies here?" Bourne joked.
But looking at the still nervous look of the black old man Joe Duke, Bourne finally felt that something was wrong.
"I'm not going to be right. Are there really enemies looking for you? I remember that you killed most of your enemies before you retired!"
That's right, the old black man in front of Bourne at this moment is his mentor and guide in the FBI, and also his and Deputy Director Lewinster's common teacher, Black Joe.
Black Joe retired from the FBI, but he served more in the CIA and the Department of Homeland Security. However, since this guy often hides behind the scenes, not many people know his true background. Most people who know him only know that Black Joe is a very capable guy with extensive connections. Only those who have actually worked with him or have carried out many missions under him know that this old guy is a shrewd, ruthless, and black-hearted old fox.
No one may believe it when I say this, but most agents would change their identities after retirement. But not Joe Black. He didn't even change his name, let alone have plastic surgery. He just lives openly in Los Angeles, a metropolis with a mixed crowd.
It's not that he believed in the government's protection of him, but that he started hunting down his enemies a few years before his retirement. By the time he retired, most of his enemies had been killed by him, and only a few small enemies were left who could not cause any trouble at all.
As a result, the enemy didn't show off on his own. In order to win the favor of a few old ladies, he even dared to appear in advertisements. As a result, he was recognized and got his comeuppance.
Just a few days ago, a venomous snake suddenly appeared in his bag. He thought it was an accident at the time, but an hour ago, the golf cart he was going to ride exploded and he smelled the smell of explosives at the scene.
"You told me that you have to be low-key and modest in this line of work. Why do you like to show off so much?" Bourne shook his head helplessly. "Okay, I'll go out and check the situation later. But I think your car is a time bomb. The killer has already run away."
"Go, go, find that guy and kill him!" Black Old Joe said fiercely, his eyes full of undisguised anger, "You actually came to my house, I should have wiped you out back then!"
Bourne said nothing more and turned to walk towards the door. Although Black Joe's words were serious, his "danger warning" had not sent out any signals since he moved in here. Either the killer really left, or the danger was indeed directed at Black Joe.
There was a knock on the door. Bourne couldn't help but stop and looked towards the door with Black Joe.
"I'm Leo, open the door." An old male voice came from outside the door.
"Leo?" Black Joe's eyes widened, then he reacted and nodded to signal Bourne to open the door.
When the door opened, an old white man wearing a red polo shirt and a fisherman's hat came in angrily, pointing at Black Joe and saying:
"You are disqualified and I won the golf tournament!"
"Golf? You won? You're so cruel. Someone wants to kill me!" Black Old Joe explained anxiously.
"Someone wants to kill you? Who do you think you are?" the white old man who called himself Leo teased.
"Yes, yes," Black Old Joe was speechless. The identity he had always boasted about here was that of a navigator.
At this time, a lady in her fifties with good temperament walked in through the open door. She looked at Bourne standing at the door in surprise, then walked straight to the two old men who were arguing and said with some self-mockery:
"Contestants, I'm the trophy for the golf tournament! I mean, this isn't the first time a man has fought for me. Which of you won?"
"No, no, we are not fighting for you. That is sexist and outrageous. We, we are fighting for your rights!" Black Joe said quickly.
"Does it make any difference?" the lady asked.
"Of course, these are subtle differences between men!" the white old man Leo explained quickly.
"Yes, yes," Black Old Joe echoed, "We respect you and praise you..."
"Pfft!"
The three people who were talking all looked in the direction of the sound. It was Bourne standing at the door. Although he was covering his mouth with his hands at this moment, anyone could see that this guy was smiling happily.
"What are you laughing at, little brat!" Black Joe was the first to get angry.
"No, I'm not laughing." Bourne put down his hand, pretended to be natural, and said in a calm tone:
"I have received professional training and will never laugh unless I can't help it. Hahahahaha"
At the end of his speech, he could not help laughing out loud, but before the three old men and women in the room who were caught in a twilight love triangle could get angry, Bourne quickly closed the door and ran out. He still had to look around to see if there was a killer.
Sure enough, after walking around the manor for a long time, he found nothing. The people living here were all old men and women, and their steps were unsteady, and they didn't look like killers at all.
It was an hour later when Bourne returned to Black Joe's villa. Black Joe and the white old man named Leo were not there. Only the lady was reading a book in the living room, apparently waiting for someone.
Seeing Bourne coming in, the lady with light golden hair and dignified temperament stood up, stretched out her hand first, and said:
"Hello, my name is Susie Russell, and I currently reside at this estate."
"Hello, ma'am, my name is Bern Lee, you can call me Bern, I'm in Los Angeles on business and staying at the Palm Springs Hotel"
Bourne shook hands with Ms. Susie and made a gesture of looking around the room.
"Are you looking for Duke?" Ms. Susie was very considerate and took the initiative to explain, "They went out together just after you left. They said they would be back later. They were afraid that you wouldn't find them when you came back, so they asked me to wait for you here."
"Thank you, ma'am," Bourne quickly stood up and thanked her.
Since Black Joe is going to solve the problem himself, then it has nothing to do with him. He knows that although Black Joe has retired from his position for many years, his autocratic character has not changed at all. Since the old guy didn't call him, it means that he doesn't want to interfere in this matter.
However, just when Bourne wanted to chat with Ms. Susie about the gossip about Black Joe, the phone in his pocket rang. After apologizing to Ms. Susie, Bourne walked out of the house and answered the phone.
It is Deputy Director of Lewinster.
"Bern, you at Joe's place in Los Angeles?"
"Hmm," Bourne had originally suspected that the mobile phones issued by the bureau had a positioning function, and now he was even more certain of it. He just didn't know what the deputy director wanted to talk to him about. As a result, the next sentence made Bourne almost jump up.
"There is a group of assassins who specialize in eliminating retired agents and assassins operating in Los Angeles. We don't know their specific targets yet, but the CIA and the dark web have been unable to contact quite a number of retired agents and assassins in Los Angeles. It's best for Joe to find a place to hide and don't do anything stupid. That's it!"
