The Koi Wife of the Prime Minister
Chapter 75 Happy New Year
Shen Yan sat by the bed, picked up the red candle in her hand, and stared at its dancing flame. The flames reflected on her face, and the gentle light made her face even more gentle and beautiful.
"We really had a wonderful night today." Shen Yan said softly, her heart full of satisfaction and gratitude.
Song Yunfeng sat beside her and held her hand: "Yes, this is an unforgettable New Year's Eve."
The two smiled at each other, and the affection between them became brighter under the candlelight.
They know very well that having each other's company is the greatest happiness.
Shen Yan leaned in Song Yunfeng's arms, closed her eyes, and felt his warmth and comfort.
On this beautiful night, their love becomes stronger, and they support each other and face the challenges and difficulties of the future together.
The red candles burned slowly, making their love even more romantic and warm.
In this dark bedroom, their hearts shine together, as if telling of eternal vows and promises.
This New Year's Eve is destined to be a day worth remembering.
"Husband, turn off the lights. We have to get up early tomorrow." Shen Yan said to Song Yunfeng.
Song Yunfeng listened to Shen Yan's words, nodded, and reached out to gently extinguish the red candle. In the room, it was dark, with only the faint moonlight outside the window shining through the curtains onto the bed.
They slept in each other's arms, their bodies pressed tightly together, conveying warmth and comfort to each other. In this quiet night, the room was filled with a faint fragrance, as if the breath of love was flowing in the air.
Outside the window, the wind blew gently, the leaves rustled, and the moonlight cast colorful shadows in the room. They closed their eyes, immersed in each other's arms, and enjoyed this rare quiet moment.
It was late at night, and the whole town was immersed in tranquility, with only the faint sound of the wind and the barking of dogs in the distance echoing in the silence. Their breathing gradually became steady, and when they fell asleep, their hands were still tightly clasped, as if telling each other of their firmness and commitment.
On this New Year's Eve, they spent a wonderful time together and looked forward to the happiness in the future. They knew that as long as they were with each other, they would be able to overcome every difficulty in life and welcome a better tomorrow.
On a dark and windy night, they were immersed in a sweet dream, sleeping in each other's arms, their hearts filled with love and warmth for each other.
Before the first rays of sunlight in the morning penetrated the window, Shen Yan had already climbed out of bed quietly. She put on a thick cotton coat and walked to the kitchen, trying to keep all her movements as quiet as possible so as not to wake up Song Yunfeng who was still sleeping soundly.
Shen Yan woke up very early because she suddenly wanted to eat fried dough sticks. She had to pay New Year's greetings today, so she had to get up early to cook.
In the kitchen, before the residual heat from the stove completely dissipated, Shen Yan began to prepare the ingredients for frying dough sticks. First, she took out the flour from the storage room and put it in a large bowl. She accurately measured the required amount of flour, then added a pinch of salt, some baking powder, and a small spoonful of alkaline noodles, all of which were to make the dough sticks more crispy and delicious.
Then, Shen Yan poured a proper amount of warm water from the kettle and slowly poured it into the flour, stirring it with chopsticks until the flour and water blended and formed a slightly sticky dough. She then put a little oil on her hands and continued to knead the dough with her hands until the surface of the dough became smooth. This process lasted about ten minutes.
After kneading the dough, Shen Yan covered it with a wet cloth and set it aside to rest for about half an hour. During this time, she began to prepare other equipment and materials for frying dough sticks.
She took out a large iron pot and placed it on the earthen stove. Then, she poured in enough rapeseed oil. Because the oil temperature needed to be high enough to fry the dough sticks, the amount of oil should not be too little. The oil was slowly heated in the pot, and Shen Yan used this time to clean the kitchen and prepare other food for the New Year's greetings.
When the oil temperature was close to the right temperature for frying dough sticks, and the heat was almost hot enough to burn hands, Shen Yan began to process the dough. She sprinkled a layer of dry flour on the chopping board, rolled the dough into a long strip, and then cut it into several equal parts. She rolled each small piece of dough into a small strip with a rolling pin, then stacked two pieces, pressed the middle with chopsticks to make the two pieces of flour stick together, forming the basic shape of the dough stick.
As the oil temperature rose, Shen Yan began to carefully put the prepared noodles into the hot oil. The moment the dough sticks touched the hot oil, they immediately expanded and floated to the surface of the oil. Shen Yan gently flipped the dough sticks with chopsticks to make them evenly fried until golden brown. The dough sticks sizzled in the oil, giving off an enticing aroma.
After taking out the fried dough sticks, Shen Yan placed them on kitchen paper to drain the oil. The dough sticks were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, golden and tempting, and paired with a bowl of hot soy milk, it was the most traditional and warmest breakfast on New Year's morning.
As everything was ready, Song Yunfeng was attracted by the aroma and got up. The two sat at the small table in the kitchen, enjoying the fried dough sticks and soy milk made by Shen Yan, chatting and laughing, looking forward to the new year and a new beginning.
After finishing their breakfast, Shen Yan and Song Yunfeng put on neat clothes and prepared to go out to pay New Year's greetings. They carried a basket with some homemade cakes and candies as New Year's gifts.
They first came to Aunt Wang's house. Aunt Wang was an elder in their village. She was old but energetic. As soon as they arrived at Aunt Wang's door, they heard laughter coming from inside. They rang the doorbell, the door opened, and Aunt Wang's kind smile immediately came into view.
"Ms. Shen, Mr. Song, Happy New Year!"
Aunt Wang warmly invited them into the house, asked them to sit down, and began to greet them warmly.
At Aunt Wang's house, they tasted the delicious rice cakes and dumplings made by Aunt Wang, as well as the rice wine brewed by Aunt Wang, which was rich in aroma and sweet in taste. When Aunt Wang saw that they brought gifts, although she modestly said that they didn't need to bring any, she still accepted them and gave them some fresh vegetables grown by herself as a return gift.
Then they went to several neighbors' homes in the village and were warmly welcomed wherever they went.
Some families prepared leftover meat dishes and some snacks from the sumptuous New Year's Eve dinner, while some families served hot tea and snacks. Wherever you went, there were smiles and a joyful atmosphere.
During the New Year's greetings, they also saw the children in the village wearing new clothes and accepting lucky money from their elders with smiles on their faces. The constant laughter and joy filled the whole village with a festive and warm atmosphere.
After that day, Shen Yan and Song Yunfeng returned home, their hearts filled with gratitude and blessings for their neighbors.
When she got home, it was already noon. Shen Yan was very hungry. There happened to be some pork elbows that had been cooked a few days ago in the kitchen, so Shen Yan wanted to make some stewed pork elbows with soybeans.
Shen Yan opened the cupboard and took out the remaining pork elbows and a bag of washed soybeans from a sealed box. She planned to cook these simple ingredients into a delicious home-cooked dish to satisfy her and Song Yunfeng's appetite.
