Bai Jiyue chuckled and scolded Mingyuan, "It's just a little mouse, why are you being so mean to it?"

The abyss did not answer.

He gets upset whenever a male animal gets close to her.

Bai Jiyue knew he often got angry for no reason, so she didn't ask any more questions. She yawned and said, "I'm really sleepy, I'm going to sleep now."

“Okay,” Mingyuan replied, and went to lie down on the couch over there.

Bai Jiyue looked at him for a moment, smiled, and then went to bed.

She was really exhausted and fell asleep very quickly.

She didn't know how long she had slept when she was suddenly awakened by a faint, resentful sobbing sound.

She sat up abruptly and looked at the bed.

Mingyuan lay on the couch, turned over to face her, and she wondered if it was just her imagination, but it seemed as if his eyes were glowing with purple light.

She blinked and looked again, but it was gone.

She chuckled self-deprecatingly, realizing she was probably still half-asleep after being startled awake and had even hallucinated.

The mournful crying sounded again, this time even closer.

Bai Jiyue called out to him, "Mingyuan?"

"Hmm." Mingyuan remained calm, as if he hadn't heard the crying at all.

"Ghostly sounds?" Bai Jiyue asked.

She said that, but in reality, she didn't believe in ghosts at all.

“Playing tricks,” Mingyuan replied.

Bai Jiyue smiled and remained silent.

The crying sounded again, this time from outside the window. The door started creaking, as if the wind was blowing or someone was pushing it.

Bai Jiyue narrowed her eyes, and the deadly sword flew silently out through the half-open window crack.

"Ah!" A cry of pain rang out from outside.

Bai Jiyue jumped out of bed and opened the door.

They saw a man sitting down outside the door, a deadly sword hovering in front of his neck, ready to stab him at any moment.

Under the moonlight, Bai Jiyue could tell that it was a little boy of about eight or nine years old.

She rushed over, grabbed the boy by the collar, and pulled him up: "Who are you? Why are you playing tricks on me here!"

"What nonsense! You're the ones who took over my house, I was just trying to find a way to kick you out!" the boy said angrily as he struggled.

"Your house?" Bai Jiyue released his hand. "This is clearly an abandoned house, no one lives here. How can it be your house?"

"This is my home! It has always been my home!" the boy shouted angrily at Bai Jiyue.

Bai Jiyue looked at him with amusement. It seemed there was more to this story than met the eye!

"Then tell me, what evidence do you have to prove this is your home?" she asked.

The boy was also furious that she wanted him to prove it, and he jumped up and down shouting, "I've been here since I was born. I know every single tree and blade of grass here better than I do. What proof do I need!"

He started crying, "It was you wicked adults who killed my parents and sister, leaving me without any family! You even wanted to take over my family's house, but I will never let you have your way!"

Bai Jiyue understood: "So, you're playing tricks on people in this house to scare them away?"

The boy wiped his tears vigorously with his sleeve and didn't answer, which was taken as tacit agreement.

Bai Jiyue now understood why the house had been abandoned for so long; it must have been the little boy's doing.

Thinking of his loneliness and helplessness, she felt a pang of sympathy and patted his head, saying, "You're quite clever."

The boy had expected Bai Jiyue and the others to beat him up and kick him out of the house, but he was surprised to be praised instead.

He was momentarily stunned, looking up at Bai Jiyue in a daze.

Bai Jiyue then saw his small face clearly. Although it was dirty, she could tell that his features were quite handsome.
