When Aunt Sun came to the door, Song Yan was packing tomatoes that she had just picked from the valley.

Around 9 p.m., Song Yan was cleaning the yard when Goudan and a few other little kids passed by his house, shouting at Song Yan to go up the mountain to pick wild fruits.

When autumn comes, most of the wild fruits on the mountain are ripe, including prickly ash, wild grapes, wax gourd... and even nuts such as walnuts and chestnuts.

Song Yan had originally planned to go into the mountains in the near future. He had not yet harvested the tomatoes he had planted in the mountains, so he threw down his broom, picked up his backpack, and followed the little kids into the mountains.

Goudan and a few of his friends were skipping and jumping in front, leading the way, while Song Yan followed them slowly.

In the golden autumn of September, the leaves in the forest are gradually dyed with a light golden color under the baptism of the season.

"Big brother, look at the hawthorn tree over there, it's bright red and must be delicious!" Goudan shouted, pointing at a tree not far away.

Song Yan looked in the direction he pointed, and sure enough, she saw a tree full of hawthorn berries, red as fire, bright and attractive.

"Okay, we'll pick some and take them back later."

They continued on their way, and before long they reached a familiar valley.

At the edge of the valley, the branches of several chestnut trees were hung with chestnuts covered with thorns, like little hedgehogs. Most of them had fallen from the trees and covered the ground.

Goudan and a few other little kids ran over happily to pick up chestnuts.

Song Yan also picked up two chestnuts and tasted them. Since it hadn't rained recently, the chestnuts had been dried in the sun for a few days. After biting into them, the chestnut flesh inside was crispy and sweet.

Song Yan picked up some more chestnuts and threw them into the backpack, then walked towards the place where he had planted tomatoes before.

It was a small clearing hidden by bushes. If you didn't look carefully, it would be difficult to find a field of tomatoes hidden here.

Tomato vines are wrapped around the racks, and plump fruits are dotted among the lush green leaves.

Each tomato is as big as a fist. Some are bright red and have been pecked by birds, while others are still green and not yet ripe.

Song Yan reached out and picked a tomato, secretly took it into the kitchen, turned on the faucet, washed it, and took it out again.

The bright red of the tomato looked even more attractive against the backdrop of the water droplets. He opened his mouth and took a bite. The rich juice immediately gushed out, and the sweet and sour taste spread in his mouth.

It was very flavorful, almost as delicious as the tomatoes in his refrigerator.

"Goudan, come here, there are delicious food!" Song Yan immediately called Goudan and a few other little kids over.

"Here they come!" Goudan and the others ran over and saw Song Yan holding a red fruit they had never seen before and chewing it, which seemed delicious.

Goudan swallowed his saliva and said, "Big brother, what are you eating?"

Song Yan finished a tomato in two or three bites, with bright red tomato juice still on her fingers. She said, "This is the fruit. It tastes pretty good. You guys should try it too."

"Is it poisonous?" an older child asked worriedly.

Song Yan pointed at the tomatoes that had been pecked by birds and said, "It's okay. Look, even birds have pecked at them, so they should be edible."

Hearing this, the children went to pick tomatoes with confidence.

Seeing Goudan reaching out to pick the green tomatoes, Song Yan quickly stopped him and said, "That tomato is not ripe yet, pick the red ones."

After hearing this, Goudan picked a red tomato nearby and ate it without even wiping it.

After taking a sip, he exclaimed in surprise: "Hey, it's sweeter than prickly ash."

The other little kids couldn't resist the temptation and took a bite of the tomatoes in their hands.

“It’s really edible.”

Song Yan said, "There are still a lot of them here. Pick them all back, or they will be eaten by birds."

Goudan and the others no longer had time to pick chestnuts, so they helped pick tomatoes. Soon, they had filled a full basket.

Some that are not ripe are left for the birds.

Each little kid’s cloth bag was filled with a lot of stuff until it was full.

Song Yan asked them to take the tomatoes back and eat them. Even if they were not used for cooking, they could be eaten as fruit to supplement the vitamins needed for daily life.

On the way back, Song Yan picked a handful of hawthorns.

When they reached the foot of the mountain, Song Yan first carried the tomatoes to the river and washed them.

Song Wanzhou sat under the eaves, patiently accompanying Yaya to practice walking.

Although Yaya is only ten months old, she can already hold on to the wall or furniture, stand unsteadily for a while, and occasionally take one or two steps.

Seeing Song Yan coming back with a basket of red fruits, Song Wanzhou asked, "Brother, did you pick persimmons?"

Song Yan put down the backpack and said casually, "They are not persimmons, but wild fruits just picked from the mountain. I have tasted them and they are edible. Do you want to try them?"

Song Wanzhou didn't doubt it. She picked up a tomato and smelled it. It tasted sour and sweet. Just as she was about to eat it, she heard a babyish voice next to her: "Yes!"

She turned her head and saw Yaya looking up at the tomato in her hand.

Song Wanzhou chuckled and pointed at Yaya and said, "Brother, did you hear that? Yaya said she wants one too."

Although Yaya can't speak very well yet, she can utter a word occasionally and babbles.

"You want one too, right? I'll give you one." Song Yan took a tomato with a smile and stuffed it into her arms.

Aunt Jiang came over at this time.

Aunt Sun slowed down a step and followed her into the room.

As soon as she entered the door, she smiled and said, "Oh, Yaya has learned to walk."

"Your Erya is also capable." Aunt Jiang praised Song Wanzhou like a flower.

Song Wanzhou was impatient to listen to these aunts pointing and criticizing, so he rolled his eyes secretly and carried Yaya back to the house.

Song Yan took some tomatoes and gave them to the two of them: "Aunt, what do you want to see me for?"

Aunt Sun was worried about something, so she took the tomato and held it in her hand without looking at it carefully, thinking it was a persimmon.

With Aunt Jiang slapping her in the face, Aunt Sun didn't say anything for a while, fearing that if the matter failed, it would get out and affect other people's daughter's reputation.

Aunt Jiang didn't care about that and said directly, "Xiao Song, it's like this. My mother's family has a niece who just turned seventeen. She is filial to her parents and is highly praised by the neighbors. She is a perfect match for you."

Song Yan only heard the beginning and suddenly realized that Aunt Jiang was here to help him find a match.

After Aunt Jiang finished speaking, he frowned and said, "Aunt, I said before that I won't consider starting a family for now. I'll talk about it in a few years."

Aunt Jiang didn't take Song Yan's words to heart, but continued to persuade her: "You work hard outside, no matter how much you earn, it's not a good thing if there's no woman to take care of the house. Look, the house is so cold and lonely, and you can't even have a hot meal."

"My eldest brother said that he won't get married. Don't you understand what he's saying?!" Song Wanzhou rushed out of the house, angrily saying.

It turned out that Song Wanzhou had been eavesdropping in the room, until Aunt Jiang shamelessly forced her niece on her eldest brother, she finally couldn't bear it anymore.

Song Yan's face darkened immediately: "Er Ya, you can't be so rude, go inside."

It was the first time that Song Wanzhou saw her elder brother get angry. Although she was not convinced, she bit her lip and went into the house obediently.

Aunt Jiang showed a trace of embarrassment on her face, but soon she regained her smile: "See, I was right, the family still needs a woman."

"Not only can I take care of you, but I can also educate your younger siblings for you. When Arya grows up, she won't be accused of being uneducated."

Seeing Song Yan's silence, Aunt Jiang thought there was a chance, and said, "My niece is also pretty, you will definitely like her when you see her."

Just as she finished speaking, a slightly cold voice suddenly came from outside the door: "Oh? Is she as pretty as me?"
